I mounted work lights on the ROPS to solve the loader/lights problem. I mounted them at about eye level on both sides because I was able to do this and easily mount the lights and hide the wires without any drilling. I would definitely recomend mounting above your eye level. If I turn to look behind me I am completely blinded. I am going to try different beams to see if it will help, but mount the lights above your head.

Tom,

If the machine is off you should struggle to turn the steering wheel. While under warranty, I would let those guys fix it.

I was followng the broke-in-half TC33 thread since I have an TC29 and sometimes worry about using it with a 3ph backhoe. I saw where Billy R. also posted the same message to the Yesterday's Tractors message board. He got several responses, some saying that the new tractors are junk, at least one pointing out that many tractors have been broken with FEL's; one from a NH parts manager saying that he had seen it happen twice; both times the customer had replaced the stock bucket with a wider one and jacked up the hydraulic pressure to pick up heavier loads. He says that the recommended loader, bucket and pressures just wouldn't break a TC33. At least one post pointed out the dangers of digging with the FEL. Anyway, Billy never responded. I hope to hear something about how this is resolved.

Always good to solve the problem before the cavalry arrives. Good it's a nice easy fix although it sounds like somebody either has been arguing with the engagement or stood on the shaft getting on or off the tractor. Hope nothing else breaks. My 4wd-linkage let loose inside the diff and required removal of an axle housing--thanks to a previous owner. Well I should have wondered why the 4wd lever was welded onto its collar when I bought the tractor. That was my fault, not the tractor's.

My first tractor was a Kubota B-7200DT and I felt it had a poor design especially after e-mailing Ronnie at Tractorsmart. The input shaft went from the rear end through the clutch and pressure plate and flywheel and layed in a little brass bearing in the end of the crank. The bearing wore out and when I tore it down the end of the crank was ruined. I priced a new crank and it was $856 plus I needed a new clutch because with the end of the crank ruined it allowed the input shaft to wobble around wearing a larger hole in the clutch. It was going to cost me around $1,200 to fix it by doing the work myself. I sent an e-mail to Tractorsmart and they told me I could have a machine shop press a bearing in the flywheel (which is how the larger machines were made anyway) and leave the crank alone. I did as he instructed and only had to replace the clutch disc and a few other pieces on the rear of the input shaft. It worked like a charm. My only point is that with gear on small compacts other things can go wrong besides the clutch wearing out.
Before I bought the 7800 I vowed never to go hydro, and after test driving hydro and having one now, there is no way I would go back to gear. I save about 30 to 60 minutes on mowing with the hydro.

Oh man that's an aggravation! If you're getting the collar pulled back all the way to remove it then paint or a burr can make removal a problem. There's a discussion somewhere in the archives about the same thing on a mid-pto. Maybe somebody recalls the subject title or what the solutions were. Does it slide back and forth a bit or is it stuck in place?

Many engines can use the timing and valve clearances checked at around 600 hours and maybe the injectors as well. It doesn't quite sound like injectors but they could be tested at a diesel shop.

Off hand I'd guess a fuel problem. First thing might be to ensure that the fuel is clean and fresh and change the filter and inspect the line and filter bowl for leaks. Some tractors have screens in the line or tank ahead of the filter. Fuel starvation often is accompanied by unstable rough operation and gray exhaust smoke. Seems like a good starting place and I imagine there'll other suggestions. It might help to say how many hours are on the tractor, the idle speed and give a little more detail about what happens. Does it start easily after it stalls? PS or hydraulic use can lug an engine at low rpm but it should happen when the engine is cold as well.

Turbo after you get this floor done I would make a suggestion. I have a wooden floor in one of my garages and my workshop and did not like the wood as a finished floor for many reasons. Many garage type floors are very expensive and easily damaged. My solution was rubber stall mats they are 4'x6' 1" thick rubber mats. They are virtually indestructable. I drive on them, lay or kneel on them (very comfy) I do wood working and welding in the workshop with no problem clean up is simple and easy. I liked it so much I also put them on my workbench top. Cost is about $1.50/sqft.

I bought a shelter king last year it went up easy and seemed to be a good deal. After about 9 months the cover started disintigrating. I called the company and they told me they were aware of the problem and that some bad covers went out by mistake. They quickly sent me a replacement cover that was obviously better quality. Now I will have to see how long this one will last. They say 7 years, but I have my doubts.

No specific help here but I have heard of cross-reference tables on-line and at various box stores. If the Allis and Massey tractors use the same engine a cross-reference table may list those tractors rather than the Hinimoto. I'd be aware that after-market filters may not have the same specs as factory filters. I have heard that no after-market hydraulic filters for some tractors can be found.

Hi Durwood,

Sorry to be so long in responding - I have been away from the computer for several days.

The Benye has been a great tractor - tough, rugged and dependable. I owned the 34HP - 4WD. The finish work is rough, but the basic structure is solid. A real work horse. I had the Benye for 5 years and put about 800 hours on the machine - sold it for a bit over 50% over what I paid for it in 1999. Hope this is useful to you.

I don't know about the 360 model. I do have a 2610. It came new with paint in the top of the fuel tank that started breaking loose soon after I got it. The paint would stop up a small strainer on the primary fuel pump. If yours has a hand primer on the pump look at the top of that pump and you'll see a small hex head bolt. If you see this,you can remove that bolt and get the strainer out and clean it. The paint ruined the pump after stopping the fuel from flowing 4 times. The dealer replaced it, No charge. Haven't had any problems since. When the strainer was just about plugged it showed some similar symptoms as you described.

Ether, I never use it now. But did back in the 70's(old Dexter). The best way I found to use ether if it has to be used is spray some on a clean piece of cloth and hold it over the air intake while starting the engine. This limits to ammount that gets in the combustion chanber. For cold weather starting I use an engine tank heater. Makes it start in Jan. like July weather and a lot easier on the starter and engine.

Most shuttle foward/reversers are on the left side of the steering column. But thats where I like them.
I could be wrong, but think the Kioti 3054 I test drove a few years ago may have had the shuttle on the left side of the seat. I much prefer it on the steering column.
