The home market for small tractor forestry is Northern Europe...that's why all of the 3pt logging winches and small hydraulic loaders and log trailers and <br>such are all made in Finland, Norway and Sweden by Farmi and Frangstad and Norse and Patu and such. In any case whatever tractor you decide on it is the implements that will be making the work possible. If you buy the Chinese tractor and beat it up, you can still put the winch on something else. The winch is likely to cost as much as the chinese tractor :-)

I do not have the 4100, but do own a 750 which is sort of the predecessor to it. The 750 is rated at 21 engine hp, I believe that the 4100 is about 20 engine hp. Anyway, they are close in size, weight, and power. Mine will handle a 5 foot hog, but I run a very heavy (450lbs) 4foot Land Pride on it instead. The 4foot LP will make the front end come up off the ground when the lift is up, and I am driving up a slightly steep incline. Makes it very tricky. I even have about 200lbs of weight hanging on the front end too. I can imagine how much worse it would be with a 5foot bh hanging of the back that weighed about 10-20% more than a 4 foot. Now, if you have fairly level land, and you don't let the grass get very high, then the 4100 will probably handle it ok. My 4 foot bh will bog the 750 motor down in real heavy tall grass/weeds, so a 5 foot will be even more strain on it. JD only recommends 4 foot implements for the 750, and suspect that the 4100 might be the same. You might check with your JD dealer and see what they think. Can't help you with the price, though. <br>Keith

Thanks, Roger.<br>The CaCl and windshield fluid prices were for two different companies. I will look for a lower price on the windshield fluid. I have large balloon turf tires on small wheels and have been told from the sizes that capacities are 50 gallons per tire back and 10 gallons per tire on the front. With 10 lbs per gallon CaCL it will still be 1000 lbs for the back. Can this damage the tractor? Also the tractor has power steering and 4 wheel drive and is not driven on the road in 4 wheel. Will the front fill effect steering or potentially damage the 4 wheel drive.

It sounds to me like a carry-all is really what you need. It is much less expensive than 3pt forks. It is quite home-buildable. You could even make one out of wood or slotted steel. The one I have I bought for $60 brand new at an auction. (The dealer sold 8 at that price)<br>Good Luck<br>Kim

I've a 4100 HST, loader, flail mower, and loads more. I've two acres and love this machine. My dealer's advice has been absolutely true--it does anything the big machines do (except for the backhoe), it just takes longer. For me, it is FAST, but I did everything by hand or foot before. Consider your use though, mine is for ag use, not cutting grass. The flail mower cuts fields, weeds and branches exceptionally fast, but I use it more for earth work. I'm looking at a Jd 755, 2200 hours, loader, 4wd, hydro trans, turf tires.<br>Average shape, paint missing on the metal between foot rests. Looks like a 1990 (from serial #)The guy say's a college had it. Seems to run good and all hydraulics work well. It's probably been outside a lot as the seat is cracked and paint is a bit faded,but not bad. Tires are average.<br>Anybody know what would be a fair price/bluebook value for this? <br>

After shopping for a combination seeder/fertilizer spreader I found the Herd Model 750 to be an excellent choice--it will spread about anything, but doesn't come cheap at about $750-850. For fall seeding and fertilizer spreading this year I rented one of the less expensive red ones (don't recall the brand) and found that it spread fertilizer pretty well, but grass seed was much more difficult.

I bought a sunshade made for an MTD lawn/garden tractor for $90 and improvised its attachment to the metal plate under the seat of my NH TC29D. It works great, and the price is right. Only trouble is the seat no longer pivots, but you may not even have that kind of seat.
