So you're talking about a standard dual SCV setup for the loader. Most all tractors come with a standard 3 point hitch. Additional rear hydraulics are available in the form of Power Beyond (full flow and pressure for backhoes, log splitters, etc) and additional SCVs (modulated control for top-and-tilt, dump boxes, etc). Power beyond would add $2-300 and two additional SCVs would add something like $1200. I'm not trying to be picky, but it does make a difference in pricing.

How does one determine an appropriate engine RPM for a given task? <br>

Say I'm mowing or pulling a box blade on flat terrain. Do I use the throttle to select a particular RPM and then use the tranny to get the desired over-the-ground speed?<br>

My tractor's engine seems to run happily at practically any RPM and under practically any load. But I'm concerned about "lugging" the engine or revving it too much.<br>

My initial inclination is to run it at 2000 RPM all the time (ignore the PTO for now). The manual doesn't discuss this subject.<br>

(The power v. rpm curve for the diesel engine that drives my irrigation pump actually has a pretty pronounced peak, making me think that perhaps the engine in my tractor doesn't have a power band that's as wide as I think it does. Again, the manual isn't any help as it provides no power or fuel-consumption curves.)<br>

Side question: The foot throttle seems to makes most sense for driving the tractor from point to point, like a car, rather than for doing work with an attachment. Correct?<br>

I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Here we get extremly hot summers and extremely cold winters. Are the Summers going to be too hot to run my L3400 all day long? Is there proper warm up/cool down techiques that diesel engine need to follow, such as a hot hot day let the engine idle for 5 min to cool it to a certain temp before shutting of the engine..etc. The winter I don't think will be an issue as it will be shedded and heated, and I am aware there is always warm up times hot or cold days. Any info would help.

I'm looking at used equipment while debating over new finish mowers. I called about an ad in a local paper, and a guy has a "Douglas" finishing mower for sale. I've never heard of this brand... does anyone know if they're any good?

Sounds like a good price, but I'm wondering about the Woods vs. Kubota FEL and possible guarantee problems. Check if the tractor is still fully covered with that equipment.
I can say my 723 FEL is a rugged unit!

Kubota's B7800 is their bare bones 30hp unit, if you want to make a fair comparision between tractors with similar features, compare the Kubota B2910 to the New Holland TC29DA to the JD 4210. The B7800 compares to the NH TC30 or the JD 790 tractors for price & features (or lack of features).

I use a 55 gallon oil drum that I picked up free from my local quick lube joint. They normally give them away since they have no deposit on them. Then I picked up a pump from http://www.northerntool.com It works great!

Sorry, bad joke of the day.

I had thought of vertical clearance, but I would think the 3pth would accomplish that easier and reduce the tare weight as well. The hydraulics should only need a max. of about 6" but who knows, one of life's little mysteries.

Speaking of mysteries, why do they put turn signals on tractors but not brake lights ?

This is what I do and it works pretty well for our heavy-clay type soil; I put a 2 bottom plow on my JD4700 and plow it first. Then I hit it 2-3 times with my KK 72 tiller, pick up rocks between passes. Important to do other wise they be buried from one pass to another. To pick up rocks in this situation a rock bucket is ideal. Works about as well as anything I've found. As for the weeds, I don't use chemicals. Given that most weeds are annuals you can break their reproductive cycle by tilling before they seed AT LEAST twice (I like 3-4 time)during the first season. Works pretty well. Note - you're better off not doing it at all then doing it once because that will make 'em grow like crazy.

You might check the dimensions of the Jonny bucket tooth array; its made for the Jonny Bucket but may fit the BX FEL. Its only $150 + shipping.
