'Grats! Sounds like you had what I call the 'AHH THIS IS THE ONE' experience. That experience is seldom wrong and usually results in the best tractor for a person and their budget. Sure does simplify buying if the 'AHH' comes early. Sitting in tractors and driving them around the dealer's lot is a good way to get that experience.

I doubt that you'll get into parts problems especially if as Peters mentioned the TC drive-trains may cross-over. With a few differences, the engines are used on various Japanese tractors if the NH parts systems starts running out. I think my 1710 may get into parts problems because the engines may be very similar to other Japanese tractors but the drive trains may be unique to Ford. Besides, it's reasonable to expect that a tractor isn't going to break for decades under normal use.

Harvey, I appreciate the input. I may end up sticking with the 4400. I would love the extra lifting capacity of the 460 loader, but you can't have everything. How do you like your 4400. Any issues I should look for? Right now I'm looking at a 4400, 240hrs, 430 loader, 3rd SCV, Mid PTO for $17,500. By the way, looks like you have a great piece of property.

There could be rear tire or ROPS clearance problems but for the most part most any CAT I backhoe will fit on most any CAT I 3ph. Some of the mounting systems do require a plate mounted onto a drawbar that all tractors may not be able to accommodate. A mounting system should lock down the 3ph. Usually a power beyond kit for the hydraulics is needed.

There is at least a half-dozen after-market manufacturers that supply 3ph hoes. You should inform yourself about the possibility of damage to the tractor though. There are plenty good discussions in the archives.

I don't have an exact answer but in general diesels take batteries with high amp hour and high cold cranking amp ratings. Both are important. Depending on accessories, a ballpark battery for yours likely would be minimum 70 amp hours and 775 cold cranking amps. Some Ford/NH tractors around a TC33's size do have 100 AH batteries, which look long and narrow compared to the more nearly cube of 70's-AH batteries. Maybe somebody has the exact specs.

I've used a good auto battery that exceeded factory specs in my Ford 1710 for about 4 years and it's worked OK. However, there are issues. Tractors give a bumpy ride and ordinary auto batteries won't last as long but 'off-road' batteries would be better. It may be hard to find a maintenance-free battery with high enough ratings that will fit in the compartment. Batteries that require venting may be smaller but they've have known to corrode through tractor radiators. Factory batteries have corroded trough rads for that matter. I haven't had either problem yet. The battery I use is vented through the caps and it is mounted a front of the rad. I faced the vents forward and I check regularly for corrosion.

HP for the two is at different RPM, 2600 vs. 2700. There well could be internal engine differences also. Of course the PTO drive train would be optimized for the engine RPM.

Grinder, thanks for all those links. Sounds like your part of the country has lots of things going for it. I've allways been facinated by construction of any kind and I'm sure the size alone of those shipyards would overwhelm me. I read in lots of the woodworking magazines about the New England aeria having lots of fine craftsman building high end stuff. I've toured the JD combine works at the Quad Citys and the JD tractor works at Waterloo which are real amazing to me, but would seem tiny compared to something the size of the shipyards. beagle why not use a 3ph broadcast spreader and put down granular?

Keep your rpms down and ground speed up you should get a very nice coverage. A lot less mainteance than a sprayer.

Does anyone know if the Kubota BT750AR backhoe will fit a BT1750 Tractor and whether I'd need to pipe any additional hydraulics to the back end to mate with the backhoe?<br>

The driveshaft should have a mechanism to lock it to the pto spline shaft. My shafts have spring loaded collars that are pulled back when slipping them into position, then the collar springs back into place locking them in. They don't lock unless the shaft is fully engaged with the pto drive. Your shaft could well be different.

I saw a JX75 at a Case dealer - nice tractor, but I haven't heard anything about how they are in the field. I'm comparing it to a NH TN 70 and JD 5320. With MFWD and 60 PTO hp, it's a big machine at 6,254 lb. Without dickering, he says $27K with a FEL. Heard anything?
