Great advice Wayne. That's why I stayed away from the grey's and bought green, for a few dollars more. Parts for my green can be had from anywhere in the states. If I need it, service is just a few miles from home. I am happy!!

Eric, can't answer any of your specific questions as to the value of those tractors but I did want to make a comment or two. If I were you, I would be asking myself what advantages will the TC18 provide me with over the 1210 that you currently own? If they are not significant enough to justify the extra money, then I would be inclined to stay with the older tractor. If the 1210 is giving you problems, then that is a good reason to consider new especially if the dealer gives great service. Sounds like your 1210 runs just fine, though. The TC18 obviously will give you some more bells and whistles, and shiny new sheet metal, but is that worth it? If either of those is enough to make you put up with your wife grumbling for spending X dollars on something you really might not need, then by all means go get yourself one!! Maybe it's just me, but I like to be able to justify buying something new (that costs more than a few hundred dollars) rather than buying it just because I want it. On the other hand, buying it will help keep the economy going!! Good luck!<br>

Joe I bought a 950 JD 2 wheel drive new in 1985 to date I've got aprox 2500 hrs on it andI had to put new brakes on it and that is all I have done to it. I work the stuffing out of it all the time. IT don't any oil what a great little tractor. Sorry to hear about your misfortion. I can't imagin what it was used for For mine takes a licking and still keeps a ticking . I would get another opinion on the single phase operation with a three <br>phase generator. We use a three phase generator on our dairy (75 kw pto). We use it for single phase just as much as we do for three phaase, you <br>just don't use the 220V leg that gives you the three phase when you don't<br>need it.<br>

Vince,<br>Steiners are excellent machines, but as you said, seem pricy for their abilities, and available/propriatary implements. I think its kind of a specialty machine. Do yourself a favor and buy 4wd, regardless what you choose. I think we all forgot to mention that unlike a car, a 2wd tractor only has 2 wheel braking. This can be potentially dangerous as the tractor size lessens. Think of decending down a hill on wet grass, and the weight of the tractor itself plus the implement starts to push you. Engaged 4WD can somewhat compensate for this pushing effect, Obviously because all four wheels are creating friction against the ground instead of two. Something to think about.

I have a 548 Roberts Jacobsen PTO driven overseeder and need info on parts availability, maintenance, and manual sources. The machine is in great shape but I know sooner or later I will need parts. I have used the machine to overseed 6 lawns and it does a beautiful job. If anyone has information on this unit or manuals you can make copies of please contact me . Yes there is a clutch but it has to be adjusted. The bolts that run throught the plate need to be looser. there is a fairly fine line to what is loose enough. take it back and have the rental shop adjust it right. hope that helps.

I just received my L4200 with cab last Friday. What a machine! It has almost every option: Loader, Fr/Re lights, A/C & Heat, Radio, Fr/Re Wipers, rear remotes, creaper gear and all the standard stuff. I was so anxious to play with it that I graded a 1/2 mile gravel road, that night. The lights are amazing, I can easily work in the night, and the cab keeps the bugs away.<br>The only thing I'm having trouble getting use to is the Glide Shift Transmission. The dealer said I should avoid the clutch, and let the transmission do the work. I guess the clutch is pretty light? Anyway I'm use to using the clutch for loader work. So now I guess I need to slide it into neutral. It's going to take some getting use too.<br>John
