Snogless; Congrads on your new tractor, better add on to the shed for all the other attachments that you've just gotta have. I started out with everything I'd ever need, but it is getting harder and harder to convince the Mrs. why I just have to own one more piece of equipment. Anybody have a list I can borrow? Have a ball, Frank.

Well, I just blew another 8" off 9 driveways. This is the 16th blow session for the winter. We're up to 116" for the winter so far. <br>

I took the chains off thinking spring was getting ready to sprung but..alas..no such luck. No chains made a very minor difference in traction. The R1's do just fine, even on a 15% grade on compacted snow. The chains made a minor noticeable difference on glare ice but don't think I'll put them on next season.<br>

Oh..I washed her afterwards and even sprayed the tires with tire cleaner. I wonder if they make raised letter tires....

I believe the Germans did the diesel thing back in the 30's but they were too heavy. Now, they may end up being too light. I dunno..but it's an interesting concept.

I bought a Hobart 225 AC Welder when my brother claimed his Miller 225 AC after a 5 year stay in my garage. A 220 volt welder for welding flat for the home occasional welder is all 95% of us need. With 5 hours practice you can get GOOD on the vertical. I have welded just about everything steel and have found that 6011, 6013, low hyd 7018AC and 7014 rods will do just about anything in steel you can think of. Check out the close up of a 7014 weld on my tractor's grill guard in my pictures. I doesn't get any better than that. When you stop and think about it, why do guys get mig welders other than to weld light sheet metal? I have no problem at all welding 16 guage with 6013 rod and well adjusted heat. I will tell you the reason and it is because they can't strike an arc and get a good bead and haven't the time to practice. A Mig represents an expensive short-cut and most often they make a mistake and get a too small of a Mig (120 volt) and get themselves in trouble with good looking beads and poor penetration on too thick a metal. A bad looking 6011 bead is ten times better than a good looking Mig that holds like window caulking. Stop and think about it. What is the longest weld you will make? individual welds 4 inches maybe 6 long... 10 times a year? The stick may be slower but spending a minimium of 600 bucks for a GOOD 220 volt Mig for short welds as a hobby welder is tough to justify financially. 6013,7014, 7018AC electrode is considered to be "Granny" or "contact" rod. That means the arc happens up in the center of the flux so you keep electrode in contact with metal being welded. "Granny" means that your grandmother can weld with it. 6011 is a deep penetration rod for dirty steel that you have to maintain your arc distance. Too much and you have slag all over too little and you have a "sticking electrode problem". Practice makes perfect with a stick welder guys. 7018AC rod has to be stored in a sealed container or in absorbs moisture and won't be worth a crap. If you are unsure put the 7018AC rods in a cheap toaster oven for a couple hours. 7014 is my favorite rod with 6011 and 6013 a close second. The 70 number of the rod is the tensile strength in thousands----70 means 70,000 tensile strength. So a 70 rod has a higher strength than a 60 rod. A chop saw, SAWZ-ALL with a metal blade and an angle grinder are mandatory accessories.

I have parts & manuals for Hinomoto tractors. Are you sure of the model #? I haven't heard of a E1810. Could it be an E180? What engine does it have?

I just saw on the Discovery Channel Wings that the crankshafts used in 9 cylinder radial engine used in the 50 year old DeHaviland Beavers are getting HARD to find so some company in Vancover BC specializes in turbo prop Beaver conversions that boost the airspeed and overall economy. Wally world in Eastern Michigan still has Shell Rotella Syn at 12.83. Looks like I will have to stock up. I guess I don't care if Shell rotella Syn 5-40 is not for diesel tractors since I change mine every year on less than 60 hours of very light use.

Tom,

Gee they sure do charge alot for a subframe for a JD model subframe. My Wood's subframe for my Kubota B-2150 cost 400.00 plus Michigan sales tax.

The 3710's are as good as the rest of them. Look for other tractors that have 450 hours on them and see what they are like.

Get one the width of the tractor at a minimum. You do have enough horsepower to run near 60"s without any trouble with a hydro. Are you sure you found a reverse tine?

New equipment with low rate interest makes it tough to justify unless cash is in hand to pay for it. The used equipment rates are normally several points higher which raises the payment as well as interest paid.

There are a lot of differences in the two different makes of tractors. Cub Cadets have been built by MTD for the past 24 years and they are the worlds largest manufacturers of mowers I believe. Which one will get the job done to your wishes the fastest? The rest is up to the dealer.

Notched discs should not be used on stoney ground as they will bend easier then solid. If there is an upgrade for a larger diameter and thichness go for it as the blades will wear longer!

The local NH dealer has a 98 jd 4100 with fel and 54" mmm with 350hours. He wants 13500 for it. This seems hight to me since an 2004 model prices at 16500. My thought is 11500 does that seem about right?
