Hey everyone, I am trying to make up my mind on which tractor to buy. Here is what I've noticed between the two. The JD has a Kohler engine, I don't know much about the Kohler or if its better than the B&S.
My initial observation is the JD costs more and is more cheaply made. The steering wheel is hard platic. The seat isn't as nice. When you flip the seat up the CC seems to have a more solid structure. The wheels are attached on the JD with a washer and lock pin only...that seems to me to be crap! When you flip up the engine cover the JD cracks and creaks. The CC has four deck wheels, as opposed to the two for the JD.
I can go on, but I can get a 46" cut CC for the same price as a 42" JD, not to mention the 3 blades vs 2.
But most of that is cosmetic I suppose. When it gets down to the meat of it, will the JD last longer? Does it cut better than the CC?
I am leaning CC, as it seems more solid, even though its now MTD, correct?
Well any tips would help, as I am going to buy one of the two on friday. If I get the CC, I will join this bb, hope Im welcome. Is this board for smaller tractors like the one Im looking at?
Also, sorry, is the mulching plate worth getting?
Thanks again, RonW...jetdoc.

There are a lot of differences in the two different makes of tractors. Cub Cadets have been built by MTD for the past 24 years and they are the worlds largest manufacturers of mowers I believe. Which one will get the job done to your wishes the fastest? The rest is up to the dealer. ....
