First stage of the 'rake' is done. We used 3/8 x 3/4 cold rolled steel bar, as mentioned earlier, 36 in long. We welded the back strap at the end of the bars and added two vertical tabs drilled into the sides of the bucket with half inch bolts. At the front of the bucket we put the strap overlapping the bucket front edge and welded five pieces of strap (the 3/8 x 2 inch hot-rolled bar) on the underside overlapping the bucket front edge. In this way the bucket front edge captures the 'rake' so the only mounting required are the two 1/2" bolts.

This works absolutely great. As a pickup device with loader flat, you can see the tips of the rake for reference, and as Green says, you just drive it into a pile of slash and it scoops it up great. You can give the bucket a quick tip up and through the slash ingto the bucket, then go for another bite!

I have managed to bend the tongs a couple times by hitting rocks. I would suggest maybe 1 inch X 1/2 inch tongs if you can afford the steel; especially for larger tractors. But my 'rake' is pretty heavy as it is.

To actually collect slash, branches, pine needles, etc. I turn the bucket vertical and drop the bucket into float, and drive backwards. This works great for raking, except for the need for freedom in the twist direction. That's the next revision to this, as described earlier.

Thanks for the reminder -- I'll need to take a look soon, as I'm tempted to put the rear blade on and try to work even though it's a bit muddy still.

Nonetheless, it's now been confirmed that this is the right orientation, and honestly, the sway bar turnbuckle is totally useless in the other position.

I haven't double checked anything since getting it from the dealership. I do know they greased everything from the grease left on the zerks. I guess I need to get the manual out and make sure the belt has the right tension on it. It does seem to be a little smoother the more RPM you run. Maybe that's my problem. I just hate to run max when it cuts good for the speed I'm going. Thanks for the response.

The jd4110 replaced the 4100, which is what I have. I put on a FEL and have been able to do anything I wanted to with the 20hp diesel engine & 4 wheel drive. Granted, it might take longer than a 50 hp tractor would, but look at the difference in price for the tractor & loader. I also have a 60" mid mount mower & 4' cutter. I have 4.5 acres & it does fine. Would like an ac cab, but the power might not be enough for that. Considering selling my tractor & getting a larger one ONLY because of the ac. Have chronic sinus problems. Do belive you would be sorry if you buy anything smaller than the 4100 or 4110 for any loader work.

I would think the price is right. Is the engine diesel? The other option would be power trac for a US build machine. There are a number of European orchard tractors that are good in the steeps but expensive. One that has a large sales network is McCormick.

I have the same concers about power. That is why I might sell or trade my 4100, but I hate to do it because it is just the right size and very economical to operate.

My 790 is 30 horse FWD(bought the year before HP change)And I think my Box Scraper is just standard duty. I did the area in a cross pattern to tear away sod then I just disk the fire out of it.I would think your 40 HP would handle a 6 footer fine beings my 30 does well with the 5 footer.That plot in pic 10 took about 4 hours to prepare and it's just a tic under an acre,About 3 hours tearing away sod and an hour disking.Like I said with some time you can make it happen. Beings you sprayed your area first your time will be cut in half, the sod was very thick in the area I worked.

Sounds like it's going to be a real busy tractor for awhile and that's good. Seat time is sure a lot better than tube time.

If I were doing it it'd be mostly with a box scraper but then that's what I have. If I were doing it over again I might spend the bucks and get a very good blade with all the adjusts, end-plates and a scarifier bar. Then it'd do all of what a blade does well plus what a box does well.

The description sounds like cutting and moving a lot of material around as well as moving and spreading new material. That's work a box does well. I sort of surprised myself because I picked up and spread the last 15 yards of pit run almost entirely with a box and saved the loader for compacting work. If there's more serious contouring or ditching work then a blade is better.

Neither a box nor blade is going to clean very well. I have an uncivilized attitude that the grass has to survive what I give it so cleaning isn't much on an issue--guess that's why our lawns have a strong resemblance to meadow. I wonder if a drag might do an acceptable job of cleaning. Just guessing here but chain link fencing wrapped around a length of timber might pick up small stones and sticks. I suppose a drag could be picked up to windrow junk with something like a gin-pole. May not work too well but at least it'd be inexpensive.

I am at the comparison pricing stage of buying a Kubota BX23 TLB, with 60" MMM, Landpride PHD with 9" augar, and Landpride 42" Tiller. In my area we have several dealers and I have received quotes that vary 'Greatly' in prices. This makes me wonder what kind of Markup/Profit Margin they have to work with? I have the choice to purchase from a multi-store 'big corporate' dealer or a couple family owned dealers. I would prefer to purchase from the family owned and operated dealerships. I want to get the best possible price for this equipment, but I do NOT want to negotiate the price so close that the family owned dealer does not make a fair profit. Does anyone have any advice to give?

try replacing the return to neutral "shock" under the step that is the only direct replacement part if that dose not work you would have to use two springs one for forward and one for reverse hooking where the "shock" is located some mods are re quiered because you do not want to remove the "shock" completely
