ncrunch32, you have me curious so I looked through my paperwork. I received a printed copy of the JD warranty with my invoice. Since I bought only three months after you I'd bet my eye teeth that your warranty is the same 24 months.

Yes, the linkage is well greased and works just fine when under light or noload. No, it does not creep.
The hydro pedal always returns to neutral except when the tractor is pulling a load. Under load the pedal appears to stick. The forward spring produces about 20 pounds resistance when pushed (with the range in neutral). The reverse is about the same.

As far as brand goes you are going to get a different opinion every time you ask someone, some guys wouldn't own anything but the color they have other guys are happy with a cheap Chinese tractor. The only one that can decide what is best for you is you.

I tried using untreated ties, called cull ties because they were rejected by the RR prior to treating for some flaw. They were mostly red oak, some white oak. I soaked each of 55 in a copper-based preservative solution. It may have slowed down the decay process by a few years, but now after 10 years, I had to tear up what was left of them.
A contractor used creosoted timbers from a dismantled railway bridge for a retaining wall on my driveway 15 years ago. It looks like it will last for 50 years.

Jonathan, I'm not really sure just how heavy that JD you're looking at is, but I will tell you this, my Kubota 4310 weighs probably 3600 pounds, plus the loader on top of that. I also have the R4's or Industrial tires on it (see my picture # 12) and have it out on the lawn (picture # 1) and while it does make a mark if it's wet it hardly qualifies as "tearing it up" as your dealer stated.

As for turfs I wouldn't under-estimate the traction they develop, that's all we run on our turf machines. In fact until recently we snow-plowed with them as well.

THats a good buy if it runs at all Its rated at around 72 hp and weighs about 7800lbs.. Not sure where the number is located try looking looking under the side panel that you raise

Buz, I just noticed (the coffee took effect) that you were inquiring about the angle of the vanes. The angle of the vanes determines, to some degree, the width of broadcast, as well as the pattern, ie, fine even spread, or thicker bands with space between. See if there is some mention in the book.

Chip, this is just my opinion. The 48RE which is the automatic that comes with the current Dodge Ram Cummins pickups still has its teething problems as was pointed out in the link that I posted for Dee. I would guess that you would be using the truck for towing your equipment and tractors around and I feel there is NO better transmission than the NV5600 six speed manual that Dodge is currently offering. It works great with the Jake Brake and is very reliable. Same transmission in my truck which is also the 2500. If you plan to do some extensive towing, you may want to consider the 3500. Both ride about the same; the dual rear wheels are more stabile on the open road. My voted solidly goes for the 6 speed manual transmission. I am not positive but DG8 sounds like the Dodge option code for the 48RE automatic transmission.

Also try to find a dealer you're comfortable with as well . to steal a quote from someone else .. "You buy atractor once ..... You live with it forever . " Shopping a dealer is as important as shopping for tractors . John

I have a 3 cylinder Cub-Cadet model 7275 (27HP). My dealer's service tech told me that I should idle at 1500 rpm and nothing below. So when you say from 1500 rpm down to an idle, how low do you set your idle?

Hey, I'm back. Just to let everyone know I decided to get a Branson 3510. Everyone's comments were helpful, & very much like what I heard from the dealers I talked to. I decided that for what I'm doing (mostly dirt work) I needed more weight & horsepower. The 3510 offered the best combination at the best price I could find. <br>
On the transmission debate, I decided a shuttle shift wd be fine for me. I liked the convenience of the hydro, but decided to spend the $1500-$2000 most makers want for hydro on more horespower/weight/features w the shuttle shift.<br>
The dealer I bought from is definetly not as well established as the big 3 dealers in the area, but I talked w them at length & they are good guys who I think will do a good job w any follow up I need. My main concerns were dependability & workability & I think the Branson (& the other Korean brands) will do fine on those counts. Even the big 3 dealers didn't really knock the Korean tractors themselves, their comments were mostly about resale value ala Grinder's notes. Every dealer I talked to thought they had the best tractors, but most agreed that the big 3 & Korean tractors were all well built.<br>
I must say my favorite comment was Kwschumm's about any tractor is better than a shovel & a wheel barrow. AMEN to that! I'll try to post a foto when I have a chance. Thanks for the input!

After many discussions with mechanics and dealers I found two things crop up on the subject of tractor hydraulic fluids.

First, it seems that the better fluids will hold more water in suspension than the cheaper fluids.

Second is the question of how will it affect the wet brakes. I am told that Case premium fluid will suspend more water than Kubota UDT and the Kubota brakes don't chatter with it so it is ok to use in place of UDT.

The same Case fluid causes brake chattering in Deere products and conversely that Deere fluids don't get along with Case brakes.

All that to say this: try to find a fluid that will hold at least 1 percent of its volume in water and is compatible with your wet brakes(assuming you have wet brakes).

Your owner's manual should have an illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) showing the locations of each component. Early manuals, like the one for the 650 and 750 had assembly and repair instructions. Contact Woods via e-mail from their web site and they will tell you how to get a manual if you don't have one.

I hope I don't get slammed for this question, but I'd really like some honest, straight-forward advice. I'm finally in the market for a new tractor--I'd like roughly 35 PTO HP, FEL, and field and finishing mowers. I've spoken to a few dealers, and they all lay claim to why their tractor is better than the other two. Who really has the best tractors in this HP range? I'm waiting a tractor to simply maintain and landscape my land, as well as other general uses. Thanks so much! (I'm posting this to all three tractor forums--I apologize if it's bad etiquette. Still learning!)

I just went through a similar exercise.
I ended up buying the TC24D from Tarheel.
Could find a better price or easier person to work with.
I went with the TC24D, gear drive, mid PTO, 60"MMM by NH, a RHINO FEL, and a post hole digger w/12" auger.
$300 down because I wanted the 24D and not the DA which they didn't have, but was able to get from another dealer.
0% interest for 12 months, and delivery from NC to CT.
Around $16,000 door to door.
I felt that the NH had more strenghts for the money.
Just my $.02 worth.

Petrops, the value of wheels comes into play when you are working with fine materials like inch. minus gravel or sand and loam. It allows you a very uniform depth of your material, especially on uneven ground.

Speaking of sticking things in the concrete.

If you buy one of those cheap $5 chainsaw bar covers (with a piece of plywood in it to keep the shape) and stick that vertically in the wet concrete then put a few links of light chain on each side it makes a really dandy, and secure, way to carry a chainsaw too. A bungee cord over the top through the handle hooked to the chain links holds it from bouncing.
