From the usages you specify; I would say your choices are the 790, 4110 minimum size. The 4115 is a much better choice but a good bit more expensive. DRankin can probably give you the best feedback on the 4115 of anyone on the board. In my opinion, you may want to consider the 4310 since I am sure you will many more tasks for the tractor than you have dreamed of once you begin building on the house. It can also run a 60 inch rotary cutter and other implements such as a post hole digger with a bit more ease due to its slightly larger size/frame & hp. You could certainly make do with the smaller tractors but would just have to take smaller bites and some tasks would be very difficult. I would also suggest the hydro which removes the 790 from the list. The 790 is a VERY good and capable tractor but it only comes in manual shift. I would also strongly suggest that you demo each tractor and any other color/flavor brands you may have an interest in and go with what suits you best. Take your time and do the research and find out how and what implements perform on each tractor. You can ask around or ask the sales folks at the dealer and see if you can get them to demo hooking up and operating. Good luck!

Most the front end loaders of most if not ALL CUT tractors wont lift 3,000 to 4,000 pounds anyway. My Woods 1006 front end loader on a my B-2150 is around a 1000 pounds lifting capacity.

Amsoil may be a good synthetic oil but for what it costs it should be. A synthetic oil that tops the list is Shell Rotella in 5W 40 sold at Wal-mart for 12 something a gallon. Soot control and all the good stuff a synthetic oil should be for not alot of $$$$.

There's likely a company that does mobile ag tire work in your area. I'd track it down maybe through a dealer and get a price for the work. My tires aren't loaded but I hear that doing it yourself is a major pain and just making a phone call to have somebody drive out and do the work can be a real bargain.

I've heard of valve stem adapter gadgets for filling tires but I'm not certain if there's anything special for draining them. I've heard of people running over tires with light trucks trying to bread the beads loose--sounds like a pain.

As a sideline comment, an old farm tractor trick I've heard of for plowing is to run only one tire loaded or tires with different traction. The idea is that plowing places different loads on the rear tires so the 'light side' is set up for more traction. For other uses that means that the unloaded tire is going to do all the slipping and tend to wear out one side of the diff.

I have looked at the spreaders Corriher have and they look like a very good piece of equipment for a VERY reasonable price. CCM as well. Are there any others out there that I should look at that I have missed?

Mark, I think their 15w-40 oil is straight multigrade. Rotella T does have a 5w-40 in synthetic (site below).

I'm pretty impressed with my Puma 64" blower. It does a great job clearing my 1600' drive and large working areas. It is a little sensitive to picking up rocks though. Smaller stones are no problem. If I were buying again, I'd get the 72" model which is as wide as my R1 tires at maximum width. With HST I don't think this would be a problem, just reduce speed.
You might like to peruse the posts by wigglybridge too, as I think his Blizzard blower has a couple of great features.
If you do look at the archives, please keep in mind most of my gripes relate to things I could/should have avoided.
One thought: If you buy now, will your warrantee be from time of purchase or the start of snow season?

Bert: I missed your farm tractor experience when I read your posts so I may not say much you don't already know.

I was mostly thinking of the use of one these 3ph bars that has an automotive hitch receiver for moving trailers around. I think most of them sold have limiting chains to prevent the hitch from raising too high if the tongue becomes unloaded as it can if a heavy trailer is pushing a tractor downhill. In addition, as you likely know very well tractors are better at pulling than stopping. Heavy loads can give them problems stopping or slowing down on hills. Curves at the bottom produce overturns.

I think you'll find that modern CUT's are a joy to work compared to older farm tractors. Most HST's provide braking that gear tractors didn't have and 4wd puts another tire into the traction. CUT's make up for weight and traction in farm tractors with 4wd and it's good to use 4wd anytime there's loads and hills. It's pretty easy for a light CUT to get out-muscled by a load and some people start out with the diff lock engaged going down especially iffy hills to prevent the diff from counter-rotating and to keep 3 tires working at traction. CUT front/back weigh distributions are more equal than older farm tractors to take advantage of 4wd. They may be less prone to back-flips but a trailer can produce unexpected weight transfers to the 3ph. It's something to watch when going up hill with weight on the 3ph. The old way of backing up still can be good. Going up hill when skidding logs tend to pull more of the log off the ground which also make an unexpected weight transfer to the 3ph.

I expect your original operator sense will prevail and you'll make the adjustment to CUT's just fine and have a ball doing it.

I know I'm a bit tardy getting into the discussion, and the problem described sounds more serious than just what I call ear goop, but I have two Old English Sheepdogs, one of whom gets ear goop constantly. What I use is Zymox-Otic. The website is http://www.petkingbrands.com/zymox.html. It comes in a small bottle and I put some in each ear every few days when the goop shows up. It is an enzyme. I tried all of the other options described above and this is the only thing that has worked for us. Good luck.

Scooter: There's been a bunch of discussion whether it's best to turn into or down a hill in your situation. I have some faith that most people with some experience just do the best thing if faced with a situation. I believe my instincts are to turn into a hill as you did and that's what I've done when faced with 'little' stability problems.

A number of people have the opinion that for general emergencies on side hills, turning downhill is best and I accept those opinions. Turning uphill may be best in many situation when it can be done in a controlled manner but turning downhill most times is the fastest way to regain control. I've said many and most a lot because there are no simple single rules that are best for all situations. Irrespective of up or down, the main thing is to get the tractor out of a side-hill attitude as fast as possible.

Like Murf suggested: for my pit run drives I use the back of a box scraper's rear cutter by extending the top-link to max. I also back-drag with a fairly flat loader bucket while holding down-pressure for a bit more compacting. I don't do it but sand bags could be strapped on to the scraper.

There are several archive threads about constructing rollers. Most designs are drums of some sort with pipes through the centre into reinforced ends on the drums. A shaft runs through the pipe to lower link arm mounts. It's good to have some sort of bushing support for the shaft and the advantages of a true 3ph-type mount might be thought about. In the very old archives, RogerL mentioned making a roller from the tank of an old gas water heater. They have a centre pipe already build in. There is archive discussion about the merits of liquid vs. concrete fill.

Cheif, I've been looking at a Land Pride 1584 for the 4410, and just wanted your thoughts on how it would handle the two main things I'd use it for. The first would be leveling one and two inch crushed rock in driveways, farmyards, etc.. The second would be to rake together grapefruit size field stones that we bring up during deep tillage in some gravel subsoil aerias we have. Thanks, Frank.

Hey, Murray. I missed your question earlier. I'm not sure I would be the best person to ask, but I beleive the rear-to-front drive ratios are the result of a deliberate engineering objective and are not mechanically adjustable. Changing the rolling cirmumference of either fronts or rears will change the lead/lag effect, but the drive ratios are the comparative turning rates (revoluttions) of the front and rear drives. Therefore, they are what they are and the manufacturer can provide the ratios for any given tractor. I suppose somebody could drop in new gearsets or even a different axles. That would be more of a modification than a mechanical adjustment. Pete
