I twisted the bucket on my kubota, I straightedn it out, pretty good. I am going to weld on some more reforcement steel. I just don't know when i will get around to it.

Dee, sorry to hear you are still having problems with your truck. Are you a member of the Turbo Diesel Register (TDR)? You might want to post your problems there. Nearly 20,000 members and you might get some productive ideas.

Good to hear that you got some closure on the problem and you are satisfied with your 990. I think all of us need breaking in with our tractors when we first get them along with the tractor. I sure do. ;o)

ao, forgive my mistake on your Leonberger (and taking this thread a little different direction). I must say I've never heard of the breed, but now you've got me curious. Easy to tell from your pics that your current brood are pretty close.

I feel for your loss on the Bernese; putting "my" dog down was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Damn dogs, they just get in your heart, don't they??

Anyway, I look forward to hearing/seeing more about your tractor (and dog) exploits.

Know what you mean about cutting the hood, was thinking about letting dealer install this when they put the mower and loader on. If they screw up they will have to fix it. Thanks.

We had the same experience. We were exhibiting in the South Wing and more than one of our customers were treated exactly the same way. I think this was a NH traveling Show team on it's last gig after being out on the road for 2 months but still is inexcusable.

There are a lot of differences between the product lines but they overlap some as well. I'll try for an overview.

The 790 is a solid, simple, reliable tractor of an older but proven design. It is the economy choice and doesn't have much in the way of bells and whistles and doesn't offer a hydro transmission, but it's a solid machine that will do a lot of work.

The 4000 TEN series tractors are newer designs that generally have higher hydraulic capacities, a full range of transmissions, lots of hp and frame size choices, more comfy and roomy operator platforms, and a lot more bells and whistles and options.

The 5000 series don't get talked about a lot here but they are offered in higher hp capacities and (I think) have cab options.

If you have a JD dealer near you they usually are happy to give you a bunch of brochures so you can compare them all. There are a lot of differences in dimensions, weight, capacities, hp, cab options, etc. If you're on a dial-up like I am the JD web site is pretty cumbersome and their brochures give a lot of details in a few pages.

I have a Gearmore unit (Danhauser, I think) that I modified to fit the tractor after I bought it and found the problem.

It hasn't seen much use as I have two types of soil: soft flowing sand and some sort of naturally occurring concrete. Since the backhoe arrived it just collects dust.

Anyway it is over in California (at a dealer who actually returns phone calls)on consignment.

The important thing to do, if you find a unit you like, is to make sure the boom section does not hit the angled bracket between your seat and your top link when the three point arms are full lifted.

I wish I could advise you on the auger size.... All I know is 9 inches is too big for natural concrete and too small for beach sand.

Mark, I'd recommend going with a 72" box scraper. The 60" won't cover your tire tracks. What transmission is included in that price? If that is an eHydro that is a pretty fair price. Are you working in a rough area (logging, etc)? What kind of soil conditions will you be working in? If you're working in the Pacific NW Woods I think the R4 tires may cause you some problems. I live and work in the Oregon woodlands and the R4 tires caused me no end of grief in the clay soil here.

Looking at a "79" dsl. 950 2200hrs. w/ Schwartz FEL and 505 5'rotary mower. Buyer has the lot insured for 6700.00 and is having an auction guy and a dealer appraise. Auction guy says $3500.00, dealer(friend)hasn't looked yet.<br>
Think this is a yanmar dsl. Any thing I need to be wary of with this year/model/engine?? Price??

On my 4310 (and probably nearly all tractors) it's real easy to rotate the rear tires by hand when the rear end is raised with a floor jack. On a gear machine you need it out of gear. I don't lift it high enough to worry about jackstands - just a half inch or so until the tire is completely unloaded. Chock the front wheels to be safe. It sure beats trying to drive around until the valve stem is at 12:00.

The 7610 is an economy version of the 2410, with an updated and more efficient front grille. The 7610 will not have the fender covers and rear body panel around the driver area, will have the 1/4" valve instead of position control on the three point, and will not have a rear hydraulic block. Ther are probably some other subtle differences in the features between the two tractors. The 2410 is considered a deluxe tractor, the 7610 is a standard tractor. Talk to your dealer, they can explain what the subtle differences are.

Standard moldboard heights are too deep for the BX series. King Kutter has a XB line of implements that work really well. They aren't catagory 0 implements like you might find with short moldboard implements. They are catagory 1 but have the shorter moldboards to fit the sub-compacts. Don't look on their website, they aren't there. Tractor Supply carries them, and others. I had a sub-compact for a while. I fabricated longer lift arms for implements that required more lift height. Arms are simple to fabricate, ends are available at many tractor stores and through Northern Tool. Be careful of your warranty and lift capacities whenever you modify the 3-point in any way, even with an adapter frame.

There were no serious hyd problems with the 4400 gear. They did have a pip on the valve for the rock shaft.

There is a bushing in the trans that bothers on some and not others and JD changed mine because of a rattle I did not like.

You've already visited the axle issue. I'll add that it is not a mechanical concern. The old style is as solid as a rock but it is tuff on a lawn doing tight turns. My dealer did not have any problems changing mine I only had to tell him it scuffed my lawn.

The 4400 gear is a solid unit.

To me, autobleed is HUGE on a machine. My CAT dozer doesn't have it and WHAT a pain. You just simply DON'T run it out of fuel. You may also have to bleed when changing a fuel filter on a non-auto system. I'm not sure how standard it is throughout the industry but both my JD 4700 & 2210 have it. Block heaters are more than worth it and generally I'd let the dealer install. Some are a real pain to get to so when it leaks, it's the dealers problem. The price difference seems within reason, prob $~250 to load the tires, ~$100 for the block heater installed and ~$25-$50 to deliver the machine. If you've got a good dealer who gives you the attention you need and he's in the ballpark for price, I'd stick with him. It will save you $$$ in the long run.
