I vote to go for the turfs. It is true that sometimes when doing loader work in soft soil that you will get more traction with the lugs, but if the ground is hard the turfs will push better. I think that turfs last longer and I know that they are much more stable on side hills than the lugs. I like the fact that if I do spin a tire on the turfs it just wipes out some of the grass, while the bar tire will quickly dig a hole in the yard. On a similar note, the bars leave a footprint that I find unsightly, while the turfs don't leave any pattern in the soil. <br> The advantage goes to the bars when working in mud or snow....but then for either of these conditions I like to run chains anyway. In deep snow the bars will need chains just as much as the turfs do. <br> Roger Loving

Several years ago,I purchased a refrubished farmstead with 3.7 acres and had the same delema. I didn't have the outlay available for a big name worker. So I started cruising the areas

I found a good used 16 hp craftsman with a rear bagger and spreader for $1000.
The first time I cut my pastures the grass was 12+ inches tall, so I rented a JD with a deck mower adjusted to 3". I fell in love with the JD but renting is kinda pricey. However I have been cutting my "lawn" for almost 3 yrs on the craftsman without any problems so far. It was 6 years old when I bought it.
I think an important thing to consider when looking for any mower for a job this size is to make sure that it's large enough(HP) to handle the job and not overly strain the machine. "> Need the advice of an experienced lawn tractor user

SOUNDS LIKE A PRETTY GOOD DEAL- I paid 15,155 for the 33D with a canopy and R4<br>tires. I paid 3650 for the 7308 which was probably a little high. The dealer <br>wanted to sale me a Bush hog Loader but I wanted the N. Holland because it was designed for the tractor. Even the Dealer liked the N.H. Loader after he got it installed.

Norm,<br>I have seriously been considering a PTO driven generator to replace my Little Honda Gen. Until about 2 days ago. We went camping (sort of) and used power off the generator someone brought with them, in our group. This made me realize that a PTO unit couldn't just be thrown on the back of the truck and used anywhere. Yes its another motor to service, but anyone who has ever owned a Honda knows that Maintainance consists of Gas & oil. I would seriously reconsider, unless you know that you would never take it anywhere. Oh, and the added HRS on the tractor meter is a good point, but sorta minor in my mind:0)

Dana,<br>We purchased our 4100 (20hp) with R4 Industrial tires, mainly for the loader & future ground leveling, and so far I loved them for the loader. I also had the dealer throw in a set of front turfs, to switch for mowing our yard. Problem is, the 4100 has a tight turning radius & the rear R4s dig slightly when trimming around a tree, especially when turning on our side hill. After hearing that turfs are generally better in snow than R4s, I'm now considering trading in my set of R4s for all turfs. Secondly, the R4s are very rugged and tend to ride harsh. I lowered the rears to about 15PSI of air. They don't show a sign of buldge, but ride better. I would make a trip to the local Kubota dealer and look at the (optional)tires on a B2100. They are a little funny looking, but are supposed to provide good bite in the loose stuff, yet be gentle on turf. I guess I'm not exactly answering your question, but if I didn't have fine turf, I would get the R4s again. BTW, the front turfs and R4s side by side...the R4s are slightly taller. Something to remember when mixing tire styles, it is better for the driveline,if the fronts pull rather than be pushed. This obviously must be within a reasonable percentage.

The 650 has 18.5 engine hp, and 15 pto hp. The 750 has 21 engine hp, and 18.5 pto hp. These may not be exactly what the book says, but it's very close. At least, I am sure of the 750 as I own an '81 model. I don't know the exact figures for the 850 but I think it is about 24 engine hp, and has about 21 pto hp. Someone can correct me if I am off on this one.<br>Keith
