Sorry to make another posting about tires, but as I somewhat mentioned in a posting below. Our 4100 has R4's, and I've loved em for the loader. I had the dealer throw in a set of front turfs for mowing. Problem is, the rears will still dig when turning sharp,especially on a hill. Not blaming the R4s, thats what they were designed to do. My new dilema, mowing is probably 80% of our use, with the other 20% varying from loader(snow/dirt) to some future ground leveling,scrapping,scarifying with a box blade and/or middlebuster. Do I keep the R4s and spend the $570 for rear turf tires/rims, thus giving me both sets. OR my dealer would swap my R4s for a set of turfs, mainly because he has a guy who wants R4s instead of Turfs,presently installed(brand new)...Because I have the fronts already, I could walk away with about $200 buck in my pocket for trading all 4 R4s. My only concern with going to turfs is "wear", especially when using the loader, or hold-up when used in dirt/stones.

I have turfs on all 4 corners of EVERY one of my machines(6 Kubota's), they do about 50/50 loader and other chores, never had a ripped tire yet. Wear shouldn't be a problem, if your tires are spinning doing loader work, or anything else, you're doing it WRONG. Besides my Bridgestone 235/85R20's have a higher weight rating than the R4's do, go figure........ ....

Just buy the rear turfs and keep the R4's. It may be more expensive if you have second thoughts a year from now and want to go bak to R4's. You should have no trouble selling a set of tires at a later date. Just my 2 cents! ....

I vote to go for the turfs. It is true that sometimes when doing loader work in soft soil that you will get more traction with the lugs, but if the ground is hard the turfs will push better. I think that turfs last longer and I know that they are much more stable on side hills than the lugs. I like the fact that if I do spin a tire on the turfs it just wipes out some of the grass, while the bar tire will quickly dig a hole in the yard. On a similar note, the bars leave a footprint that I find unsightly, while the turfs don't leave any pattern in the soil. The advantage goes to the bars when working in mud or snow....but then for either of these conditions I like to run chains anyway. In deep snow the bars will need chains just as much as the turfs do.
