Scott,yeah shinnston is about 3 1/2 hrs,drunk a lot of beer in salem and clarksburg,in the 80s. I changed all my fluids after about 50 hrs,[less for motor oil],that"hydro oil",that I drained out of mine was dark,looked like a mixture of hydro fluid and 30 weight? I put aw 32 in mine for two reasons,in the summer after running at higher rpms for 2-3 hrs straight brushoging,the hydro lines get very hot,it doesn't have a cooler so thinner is better it seems to me?,might be wrong there,but changing to the aw 32 did seem to help that,,second,in the winter,thinner is better. Another reason,these tractors are not fancy,in china I hear,they run 30 weight for every thing,thats why they come from china with 30 weight in everything,so tractor fluid may not be of any use?
No I've never had any problems in the cold,but I've never ran it in 5 degree below temps either. I would change to aw32,but then mine just has one hydro tank for all uses,unlike yours,I gather? Have you cleaned your hydro screen yet?,mine just has a washable screen,I don't know what the304s have,my screen had a couple of dimed sized holes in the wire mesh,northern sent me a new one.
Again,post this problem on the ctoa board under maintance questions if you haven't already,more people who own these tractors read and answer over there than here. Richard

Thanks, I'm in a bit of a bind. It's posted on an online ad and its 900 miles away. So, I can't really go check it out too easily. Can you think of any questions you would ask the seller if you were in the same situation. He also told me he would throw in a 1976 F-600 flatbed truck for $1500 if I wanted to fly in. Some other info he told me, is that there are no oil leaks or hydraulics problems, and the tires have about 30-50% tread left.

The common trick around here for dealing with snow sitting on a tin roof is to put a big propane burner in there for a few minutes with all the doors closed up. In very short order the snow nexts to the steel melts to form a layer of water. The combination of water lubricant and heavy snow causes the snow to slide right off.

Other people use a long pole with a lrge padded end on it to thump the underside causing an avalanche. This doesn't work too well if the snow is frozen to the steel though.

One thing I forgot, and clarification on the snowblower.

The 4110 low reverse is only .6 mph, quite a bit slower than the .8 Tom has, so that may be part of the equation. Also, I intentionally bought a narrow blower (54"), mostly so that I could work some very tight areas around the house, but also because I was scared of it bogging down in big snow. I am VERY happy with that decision, and don't miss the extra width even a little bit.

On the block heater: no question, get it!!! Some of the dealers here (I worked with 3) said I didn't need it, my neighbor with a 4100 said "get it". I listened to my neighbor, and man am I glad. Without it the machine starts very reluctantly even at 10F. With it, it starts no question and much more smoothly, which I think must be worth something over 10 years of use.

Once again, I want to reiterate my thanks and respect to Mark and Tom, both of whose posts were especially helpful to making my decision. Thanks to the whole crew here, and Dennis for keeping us happening!

You have to be very careful when feeding deer.

In areas that have a harsh winter where natural sources of food are depleted quickly the tendancy is to put out feed for them.

The problem is that the digestive tract of deer changes with the seasons. If you feed hay to a starving deer it will often kill it since it cannot digest it and then cannot process other food because it is full of useless bulk. At the very least it will weaken it, making it suseptable to disease or predatation that otherwise it would have survived.

Likewise, feeding high starch foods like corn, barley or wheat will cause the deer to be very vulnserable to bacteria growth in their digestive tract which can also be fatal. Even if it doesn't kill it again it is weakened at the worst time of year.

You are better off to provide a supply of naturally occuring food like corn plants left standing at the edge of a field. Better still is to learn to 'adjust' the natural settings for the deer. Bush-hogging strips next to wooded areas once early in the spring will encourage a healthy crop of saplings to come up, this will provide natural browse for the deer in an appropriate spot near the shelter of the woods. Areas of coniferous trees within the woods will give them shelter and more food still.

If you can provide the deer a suitable habit they will use it, this will also help keep them out of undesireable areas, like your back-yard.

I have been reading about the various tractors (Jinma/Farmrpo, Kama, etc.) and am looking to become a dealer for one of the brands. Any dealers out there with a recomendation on which is the best for the money, spare parts, reliability, etc? I am already in the import business and will be flying to Shanghai soon and want to look at several first hand along with ATVs . Any advice on tractors and ATVs would be appreciated.

My 2 cents on the red or blue deal is this. I too thought about red, as they essentially are the same. So it came down to price and the dealer. My decision came down to the dealer for two reasons. One the red dealer was not good at getting back to me by phone and two the red dealer what about an hour away. There are two blue dealers with in 30 minutes and one although not as helpful as I would have hoped was still the best.

Be careful with unmatched hydraulics. You can do serious damage to the tractor. Kubota uses a regenarative hydraulic circuit that requires a continuous pressure circuit to operate properly on at least some of it's tractors (valves require Power Beyond). If you disrupt the circuit, you may not be supplying pressure to everywhere in the system that requires it. The other posters know more about the BX, and I know some about hydraulic circuits. Do some research. Make sure you understand how all the different circuits in the tractor work together. If there isn't a seperate slave pump on the hydrostat, you could really damage the transmission if there isn't pressure in the drive circuit.

Now if I was retiring I would look for land within a triangle defined by Springfield, Mo, Fayetteville, Ar and Tulsa, Ok.

Yes for certain, don't feather that clutch--particularly under heavy loads!! Tractor clutches aren't meant to be slipped. There's a tendency to slip them when doing loader work and that's one reason why used tractors that never have had loaders tend to be bargains. It's far better to go to a lower gear rather than to use the clutch to start out slowly.

It is a Poland made old 231. 231S is better. Actually there is a new one on the way 431. Saw that in the fair. If you will pay $10.000 for an old 231, i advise you to pay approximately $13.000 for the new 431. Hydrostatic steering, pendant pedal, and StageII Perkins 1103 series engine on it. Cause of the new engine, must be a modified crownwheel and pinion. Also there is another new model 461 but it is a 4WD one.

Happy if all my bumph helped. It's a way of returning a bit for all the stuff I've learned mostly from here.

You might look at other manufacturers if Prince doesn't have a valve section that's right for the motor. I'm thinking that if it's just detents then the valve could be used for most any direction control application. Another manufacturer might have different flow rating valves as well.

I don't know if the Prince valve is one of the types that can be used on either open or closed centre systems. If so, they tend to be supplied set up for closed centre use. A plug has to be removed to use them on open centered systems.

A leaking cylinder seal sure might do it. It'd be a simpler explanation then my theorizing, which might have gotten a bit confused from thinking that both the lift and bucket circuits are involved. I re-read the posts and think I was also recalling another thread where the person had disconnected the work port lines, which greatly reduced the leak-down. That's not a bad test to separate valve from cylinder leaks. A better test is locking down the bucket so it can't lift, disconnecting the lower line and trying to lift it. If the cylinders are leaking, oil should come out the lower line. I've never done the test but if I had to I have a spare quick-connect fitting so I could open the line without removing the fitting.

Thanks Chief. It is out of the way of everything, including tree branches and my head. The caution light is actually on an extension plate and sits under the middle of the ROPS, the work lights are as well. They sit pretty much in line with the outside of the ROPS on their own bracket extensions welded to the main bar.

I'm a conservative, Have guns, and even more dangerous items..like a tractor with all of its scarey implements.

I recently read a paper written by a history professor about democracies going back several thousand years. His research found that the average lifespan for a democracy was about 200 years. The stages each democracy went through mirrored what ours is going through. The end stage was total apathy followed by autocratic rule.

After freedom was won, people were euphoric and patriotic. They got involved. Then came the discovery that they could vote themselves entitlements and the like. Then came expectations that the government should provide those nice things while fewer & fewer people involved themselves in the process. This was followed by voluntary military service and a total apathetic attitude.

This was followed by military takeovers and..viola'...no more democracy. We are in the end game right now.

Fact is, this subject came up when a General officer recently stated that an attack on the U.S. by weapons of mass destruction could very well spell an end to our constitution. That could only happen if the people stay uninvolved and LET it happen.

Just not involving oneself with our system of government is a sure fire way to make THAT a self fulfilling prophecy.

It's never gonna be a perfect system but it takes all of us to keep the lid on and maintain our freedom.

GET AND STAY INVOLVED! Or...dig a hole, climb into it with a bunch of guns and wait for them to come blow you out of it. (Ruby Ridge)(Waco). THEM is supposed to be US. But that is changing.

thanks guys....EM, i will consider the BH forum, but i seem convinced already. mark, good to know the strength is there. these two considerations of digging plumb holes and maintaining undisturbed walls were my main concerns. i'm glad i can talk w/ experienced people other than salesmen. if u guys come across any other experiences that might relate to my concerns, please let me know. have you guys tried plowing with the loader?

Dedeye,you can buy a brand new jinma 25 h.p.4wd with front loader for about 10,000 dollars,comes with 6 months parts and labor,tested and ready to go. Of course they break too,but you might be money ahead,and its new. Richard
