The pipe I used had a 2" diameter. I opted for regular galvanized pipe instead of the lighter gauge fence post. I thought it would hold up much better.

The physical size of the 4115 actually falls in very close to the 27-2910 size. They need that extra wheel base to put the bigger 72" deck underneath and still be able to remove it. The flat deck on the Kubota I would not buy a tractor today that I have to get on and off and not have it. Kubota's done an excellent job with the flat deck, I've just done to many headers trying to dismount to like a hump in the center.

Try Eagle Tractor Parts in Eagle Lake, TX. I don't have much info on them but I seem to recall they have a website and I know they are listed in the phone book. They are not far from my ranch and have tons of old tractors and equipment .

I finally went and bought the light and bracket from NH and it works great. The bracket was $22. I have a TC33D but I can't imagine them being that much different. Try shopping it online.

Hi, TomG. I'll need to take a little bite out of mt "2-ft" figure from the earlier posts, and just say that the rig handles a full blade of snow in my experience (2-foot challenge withdrawn, Duc <:~> ...) I don't have the exact dimension, but I think the blade is somewhere between 20 and 24 inches high. I have pushed snow with some powder flowing over the top. It works fine, but it's not very tidy.

You've touched on the biggest downside to blades in that the snow is left in a "berm" on the "downside" (nearest to front wheel) of the angled blade. The 54 blade is rolled enough that there is some curling effect in the snow being thrown off to the side, and dry snow can be pushed at high speeds on smooth pavement or asphault. The 54 blade angles at 27 degfrees at full angle, and snow slides off pretty effectively depending on how dry it is. A key to being able to keep high plowing speeds in any condition is to wax the blade. Some people have told me to use Pam spray, but the wax works for me.

I mentioned earlier that it is a good idea to plow a little bit into the yard if the slope allows this. If the blade has a squeegee, there should be no damage in float position. The tractor is light enough that there are no ruts (its the same tractor I mow with). This first path on both margins of a drive creates a place for the snow to go. After a few quick passes, most drives are done at that point. The berms are often three to four feet high along the sides of the drive. The problem arises, as you pointed out, when there is no melting and more snow arrives. A common occurrence in the snow belt.

While a CUT with a plow cannot "throw" snow the way a big municipal plow can, as I'm sure you have seen, my 2210 will plow most snows at near full throttle (5-7 MPH by spec) as long as I'm on pavement. Of course, the trip latch is open and the squeegee prevents gouging or hang-ups. In fact, with a front blade, the faster the better. I've posted a few pics in my profile of the 2210 with plow after a pretty big snow fall last winter. The pics are after considerable melting a day or so after plowing. You can see I had to shove some of the berm back off the corner of the pavement where slow speeds prevent the real desired effect of plowing.

I did not purchase my Polaris from Southern power sports, because I was stupid and paid more. I send out for quotes before I found about them...so after I purchased and find out about their web site, I found the 4x4 for $1000.00 cheaper than what I paid, the rangerware top was $800.00 cheaper. Your comment about a big nasty cylinder reminded me of a rather unique setup I saw on another homemade splitter a few years back.

The guy had also made it with what was available (read: scrounged and therefore FREE) and the cylinder was a dipper cylinder of a full sized excavator, the length of stroke was such that it allowed an enormous amount of travel. Rather than only using a portion of the stroke he merely made sure that all wood was cut VERY square then loaded the splitter with 3 blocks of wood end-to-end for each cycle.

On another note, you mentioned that big 40" cylinder you also discovered. If you go to a good sized power plant you may want to look at putting a compressor in the circuit. There's nothing faster or easier to use for lifting light objects or to kick the split blocks clear. On a lot of production firewood processors they use hydraulics only to cut and split the blocks, the 'man-handling' in & out of the cutter and splitter is done with automated air cylinders.

As for the power plant itself, you can often get a complete (wrecked or terminally rusted) car or motorcycle for less than the cost of a good small gas engine. A big Kohler or Honda can easily cost $1,000 or more, and you still need a pump, brackets, etc., which will cost another $500 or more. A Honda car engine running an old truck PTO pump is more in the $500 range and will run forever.

You are right about the polaris set up they are faster. I found the Kubota very easy to drive for all conditions that I had to drive them in with the Mule,ranger,and gator for comparisons.

I think most loader frames for compacts are about the same and probably qualify as mid-mount. The loader arms on mine are mounted to a pivot point that bolts onto the cases the middle of the tractor. There is a strut that runs between the pivot points underneath the tractor. That strut means that a MMM couldn't be mounted and I think that is true with most loader/MMM combinations. There are a few tractors that have factory loaders and MMM's that are compatible but not many. People who do have MMM's and loaders don't seem to mind removing the loaders too much.

I work at short constution type jobs generally and the old thing is a teacher,but you be right,ain't many jobs down here. That kk at tractor supply sounds good,for the price and being a kk,and the fact that many people now have told me its a good tiller. The only thing that could beat it would be a used one with somekind of a guarantee,I think I'll at least call that Beverage place before I go down to tractor supply,if they have a good looking 5 ft. with a 6 months guarantee,because thats all you would be able to tell,if it wasn't beat all up,and no oil leakage with good tines,you wouldn't know how it works,got to make sure the p.t.o. will hook up and turns at 540 in the same direction too. If you just bought a used one off of somebody that you didn't know with no guarantee then you could be in for a bad time, Richard

You'll find a big difference in operator comfort. Getting on and off is quite easy on a BX compared to the 7100 and the low effort power steering makes driving it easy.
