I've been thru the mill on New Holland, Deere, and Kubota. I am either the smartest man alive, or totally confused. But I've settled on a Kubota 2910, with loader and quick attach bucket, and quickattack snow blade, MMM.. and I think I've solved my problems thus far. The tires are new to me, they are not the usual R3's, but a more agressive and useful all around tire, like on the JD 4210's I've looked at. It is a turf type tire, with a very deep, traction type tread. "Multi tread"..but not like the R4's. More like a good 4 wheeler tire, or as seen on a 4 X 4 truck..with moderately strong tread design for all uses. Putting quick attach brackets on the loader arms, for a 60 inch snow plow, power angle. Made by FFC, so I can interchange in minutes..to loading manure, or putting the blade on when any heavy snow is forecasted..MMM looks fine for my well-graded pasture, also, with a heighth reach of 7 inches..off the ground, even with the loader brackets on. Sure hope this works..cost more than Pop's first three houses when I was a kid. All the input was fantastic and helped me to avoid some serious pitfalls..in the end, I think the dealer and the service means a great deal. For anyone's information, I did see a bulletin by John Deere, that says the 40 "TEN" series is being shaken down for a bad transmission problem (I was a whisker away from buying a 4210)..it says no TEN series tractors are to be sent to the consumer unless the electronic hydro is replaced on the tractor..no kidding, I saw a copy..it was being sent to the dealers. Over all, I think for the horses and barn work, with bucket, and gravel and grading jobs, as well as clearing snow, and mowing several acres..the 2910 will do it for me. It was still a little under both NH and JD in over all "apples to apples" pricing. THanks again..for the advice and the posts that helped me to keep focused on what I NEED A TRACTOR FOR..and not be carried away with horsepower-itis.

Sounds like a plan, just take the old Dodge up to TSC and load it up with one of each (tiller, post hole digger, snow blower, rake, blade, box blade, carry all, bush hog, finish mower)!!!! You might want to make two trips!!!!
I want to get a tiller and a set of forks to go on my bucket. Just got to wait a little while though.
I agree with you about the antlers on deer, the only thing they are good for is a very expensive hat rack. I'll take the meat over the antlers anyday!!!!

So just so I better understand. These are all the same tractor, just different names? Or they are all the same engine with different body/features? Sorry I have not really seen or know alot about these. I was going to look into them for their price savings, but I am not the most mechanically inclined and thought I would be better off in the long run with a local dealer and repair shop. It is not that I couldn't work on them, there are just to many other things I would rather be doing then self teaching engine work.

Lumber, all you stated is true. The ZL20 loader alone does not utilitize a rear axle support if used alone with a loader. However, I'm told/informed that if a China backhoe that is hardmounted(not to be confused with 3pt hitch type backhoe which is also available)requires a ladder type main frame to equalize to backhoe forces over the entire tractor frame. That is why they suggest if buying a loader/backhoe combo package from china to get the master package.I'm sure that one could add backhoe and just reinforce it. If you have seen what I've done with my snow plow reinforcement to my loader frame you would say its built like a tank. I have a habit of going overboard. With the additions I have added to my frame rails alone make them over 1 1/4" thick. If you say I'm wacko you are most likely correct but nothing breaks when I build it.

My post was a tongue-in-cheek remark meaning that this string was begining to sound like a Jeff Foxworthy comedy routine! There are as many reasons for making your decision as there are choices. Everyone has their own priorities and requirements.

Lumber, I got a 224 also. Built her up myself as a crate unit. Had fun doing it too. Put lots of TLC into every part of the assembly. I think a crate unit is not for everyone though. I've personally seen Homier farm pros at the traveling shows and their assembly left a lot to be desired. I feel who assembles them makes all the difference.They are by far, a JD or Kubota in the fit/finish areas but are a good basic machine within reasonable price range for what I use it for.I guess it all depends what you intend to use your equipment for.

Just did a trip to Florida and back. Best tank was 17.85 and worse tank was 15.5. I use Lucas fuel additive. My truck is a 02HO 4x4 with 4.10 gears. I have a comp box stage 2 inj, 4" exhaust and mega cannon air filter. The gears hurt my mileage on the highway. Going to a 285 tire to help with the gears when the factory tire are shot.

Sorry Chief,I stand corrected. The picture you posted of the 1030 more closely resembles a 2040 in U.S version. You mentioned a Yanmar engine in your first post, but these models used only Deere's own engines.

Yeah and if you look real hard you will see that Compact JDeere is made in China also. I own a Nortrac and very happy. Can get all the parts I want to when and IF I need them. If youe a mechanic then I guess there won't be a problem in the minor repairs need be cause it is not the fit and finish Of the JDeere but then again I saved $1000.'s

Unfortunatly for you I have to agree with Chief, as torque converters hold to much debris and it is very difficult to get it out! I do wish you luck and hope it is cured.

For what I have seen I think that is tied to the safety system for shut down. I don't believe it would be a place to be taking power for lites or as Mark suggested rotation of a chute.

tamanaco, the sub-frame is all that mounts the backhoe to the tractor. It is held by 2 pins at the front of the subframe (1 under each loader mount arm) and a pin through the original drawbar hole in the rear. The rear pin doesn't support any weight, that is handled by two pieces of 1" X 3" steel with a slot milled to go over the original lower 3-point mount bar.

I built a Cad Plans model 508 backhoe for my former Simplicity Legacy about 3 years ago. After a year I modified it because of the small reach and depth - I got tired of moving the tractor after every 2 feet or so of digging. My latest attempt is my own design based on what I learned from it plus a lot of eyeballing factory & aftermarket backhoes.

There is a also a pretty good looking towable unit at http://www.ubuilditplans.com/ which could be adapted to 3-point, but it's probably a bit large for your tractor.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons I stayed away from 3-point hiotch mount was to keep the backhoe as close as possible to the rear end for balance. The length of the 3-point arms forces weight much further back.

I went with a JD 4310 over Kubota when I did weight comparisons. The JD just looked heavier built to me for the same money.

Other intangibles come into play. Like the fact that my neighbor - a Kubota man - dug holes on my property with his FEL to get topsoil - I had to get a survey to show him where the property line was. After that - a Kubota was pretty much out of the picture.

Plots put it well.

Adding weight that in effect pushes the tire into a lower profile will increase both traction and stability.

Fluid filled tires will increase stability but are far less effective for traction than putting iron on the frame and axles.

I think Tom is right.

When you are sitting three feet away from an exhaust port it matters little which way it points. Seems like you are just working in the exaust cloud.

It does sound like you have an adjustment available. Some rims and tire combinations have no adjustments.
