I think most valves have difficulty metering very low flows and thermostats aren't very sophisticated valves. I'm not sure any valve produces flows that meter continuously from zero to full flow. Most crack, which produces an initial increment of flow and they can't meter less than that initial flow. They probably are designed to 'crack' at temps a bit lower than their rated temp. I can imagine conditions where this increment would be too great to allow temp to come up to the thermostat's rated temp. I think most systems have a small bypass that doesn't flow through the rad as well.

One difference between diesel and gas engines is that diesels don't have a throttle valve. At low loads on gas engines the throttle valve closes, which rarefies the air and produces high intake manifold vacuums. The air is less dense and it takes less to warm it on cold days than in diesel engines. Anyway, that's the explanation I've heard for why diesels don't warm up at slow idles on cold days.

That's a clever trick and I seem to recall mention of it or something similar in discussion some years ago. If I have my stories straight, the two sides of the top-link cylinder are connected together through a valve. When the blade is on the ground its angle can be changed by opening the valve and moving the tractor a bit forward or backward.

If that's the idea, I think that opening the valve when going forward would shorten the link to increase the cutting action of a scraper so it wouldn't work for changing from cutting to dragging on the fly. However, stopping and backing up a bit seems much easier than hopping off the tractor every time an adjustment is needed. Besides, I don't have a toolbox on the tractor and would have to figure some place to keep a hammer and link adjuster. That's a real good and cheap idea for people without rear hydraulics I think.

My 723 loader has a bucket cylinder leak at 45 hours,is that normal? Dealer who sold it is 130 miles away and service is so-so. I would like it fixed but don't want to ship whole tractor. Is it easy to take off cylinder myself and bring to a dealer for fix or replacement

Ive got a 1010.... Great tractor..... I paid 4500 for mine
four or five years ago with several extra's Just don't break it.

A starter motor is 675.00 Yes I said 675.00.

I've been told it's one of the best tractors Massey have ever made. Oh by the way mines' a 2 wheel drive model

We've had a lot of rain and I've had no pressing work (other than box-scraping, which doesn't work so well on soupy clay) so other than going up and down a hill a couple of times when moving stuff to the basement I haven't used the R1s much. However, the hill was sticky wet clay and the R1s worked MUCH better than the R4s under the same circumstances. Since it rains here a lot and since I don't finish mow I'm sure the R1s will be the right tires for me.

Anybody experienced in replacing the inner right u joint on right front axle?(there are two on right axle) Does the entire Dana 50 need to come apart to release the c clip on the axle? Looks like it to me...

It was on ESPN 2 around here.

We switched from Direct TV to cable when it came to my are so i could get the discountte cable internet. We had some problems at first, but now they have picked up some new channels. Last tear I missed the Calagry Stampede and the Tour de France because cable was too cheap to carry the Outdoor Life Network. Due to complaints they added it.

It costs enough, they should have just about EVERY channel!

I'd be looking at the 72" hog with that much horsepower. The rear is a little different on width I believe but I will check the books to be sure in the morning.

Thanks Cub! I ordered one of these six weeks or so ago and got notice yesterday that it will be delivered the first week of January. Your suggestion to change the oil before using it is a good one and I will do so. I have heard that the feeder belt is weak, too, and I'll pick up a few extras at Napa before using it.

It differs by policy. My home policy is with State Farm in MD but the tractor is located on my property in VA financed withthat special Kubota deal last year. I just called and it is completely covered once I gave them the details like serial #, etc. So is the shed it is stored in. I was looking around into other companies and most of them would not support like State Farm.

I plow snow commercially here in Michigan. Diesel fuel and silicone both absorb water especially silicone which freezes. I coat my plows with axle lubricant more or less to prevent salt from attacking the parts. Tractor Supply has something called "graphite lubricant" in aerosol (about $6) . The mfg. claims it is good for coating mower underbellies and snow plows. Haven't tried it as the sheer friction of continuous snow and ice keeps anything from sticking long.

How is your FEL fabrication project coming along? I got to thinking about what you are trying to do and I am wondering if it wouldn't be easier and cheaper all the way around to see if you can locate a Kubota L1200 FEL at a salvage yard or one in need of repair and install it on your L245. That is a fairly old machine and there may be a few to be had in some tractor salvage yards. That is where I got the power beyond block for mine to remove the loader. Might be worth looking into.
