OK Here again I showing my novice knowledge. As I look at options I see Options for 2WD ( OK Simple enough 2 wheel Drive) But then instead of showing 4WD I see FWD on the Blue. I think Front Wheel Drive. Is this really 4 WD? Then on the Red ( Case IH ) I see MFD ( I have Not a clue ) Again is this just a different way of stating 4 WD. Are these true 4WD or some version of a limited slip? I suppose I will get alot answers at the dealer tomorrow, but going in a little more knowledgeable would be helpful. I really don't want the big " Here comes a sucker " Look from the dealer.

I expect that those big cans of "Bear Pepper Spray" would work on those PETA bears just fine. Better safe than sorry! ;-)

I would have to question the sanity of anyone that would dress up in fur or antlers and run around in hunting areas. I have seen these people disrupt hunts by just deciding to "hike" noisily in the woods during hunting season.

I would write down all of the options that you definitely want and some of the options you would like to have as well as implements. Also write down all questions you have for the dealers. When you see all those new shiny tractors, you may forget some of the things you wanted to ask. Also I would get all quotes written out. And finally when comparing tractors, make sure it apples to apples.

Yes, that would happen if the top link wasn't connected. I suppose anything can be forgotten under the right circumstances but you've got to wonder how or maybe why. The story does provide an excuse for me to make my favourite comment. Box scrapers and hydraulic top-links go together.<br>

If there's a big budget, high-end blades have end-plate and scarifier options. They weigh a lot and also have all the tilts, angles and swings of a good blade--and even with hydraulics. That's probably the best of all worlds but as in all things best costs. Offsets are nice too and you can't really do serious ditching with a box.

$Len, pull the starter off and take it to Pollocks Alternator & Starter , 271 Genesee Street, Rochester, (716) 436-8208. It can probably be rebuilt or repaired for a SMALL fraction of what a replacement will cost at the dealer. Best of luck.$ Case 580B starter

Over the years of clearing snow commercially we've discovered it's always better to get the light as close to what you want lit up as possible.

We have work lights mounted on the two outer corners of the blowers, and on the grill guard in front. The new machines all have two front & two rear work lights built into the cab itself, the rear lights are good if their tipped down as Art mentioned, the front lights are too wide a beam to do much other than flood the whole area in front of the machine but in conjunction with the high beams they seem to work pretty good.

One of the guys rigged up a set of 'cross-eyed' lights on the top of the plow itself and that worked well for cleaning the sidewalks at a shopping mall. He put two sets of very small fog lights on each side of the plow blade, one set shone straight forward with the plow angled full left, the other when the blade was full right. They were switched seperately but on a single 3 way toggle so when he reversed the plow he just flipped the switch to match.

Although I have discovered that the best lights by far for dealing with a raging blizzard are ANY light that is on the outside of a HEATED CAB....... ;->

Oh, the weather outside is frightfull, but the CAB is so delightfull, let it snow, let it snow.....

Horn: No debate about your description of the operation and it's good you're happy with the operation--just some tech detail here that may be of interest. You may well have a fast dump feature on the bucket valve that is activated by pushing the control all the way. What appears to be simultaneous movement may well be a tandem hookup in the valve assembly where the lightest load moves first.

I always wondered about those beaver. You see their pencil point trees left standing and wonder how they know which way it's going to go and manage to get out of the way. I guess the answer is that they don't. Sometimes they chew into a big tree from one side and you wonder why any idiot would stick their head in there. Maybe they could be taught human methods but then they'd probably need felling wedges to keep their teeth from getting stuck.

I don't mind the thought of trees falling on a few beaver myself. It'd just make our favourite snowshoe trail to the store a little safer. However, I don't like the thought of trees falling on people. I believe that logging is about the most dangerous of all occupations. Chain-saws, falling heavy things and heavy-equipment make for a dangerous mix. Take care.

As far as someone purchasing a tractor without the bells and whistles, I can't feel sorry for them because in today's world there is so much information to be had if you just research. Before I bought my B-7800 (a stripped down version of the B2910), I researched the tractor to determine if I could do without the bells and whistles on the 2910. I decided for my needs that I didn't need the extra bells and whistles. If my needs change, then I will research once again and determine if I should get a new tractor or have the one I have modified to fit my needs. Research is the key to a good purchase which includes dealer research. My dealer was very honest up front and told me that if I was looking to added something that required rear hydraulics I may not want to go with the 7800.
And as I have said before orange, blue & green are all good tractors and the dealers all over the country vary for each brand which is why the distribution is like it is.

You will be shocked again when you have to buy parts for any of the big three. For what you want to do a used Japanese tractor or a new Chinese tractor would fit the bill. Years can go by before you will ever need a part. Main items needed will be oils and filters which are available at most auto parts stores for less than at the dealer.

Thanks much for the measurement hornworm. I'm building a grapple and I didn't want the upper pinchers which will be fixed to a quick attach plate to hit the lower ones which will be mounted solidly to the loader lift arms. I just came in from doing all the welding. I hope it works as good this weekend as it does in my imagination. :-)

itsgottobegreen, I just don't see harley skidding many logs with a grasshopper or any other walk behind mower. I think he has in mind a smaller CUT to cover a variety of uses. You are right about the front mower walk behinds. I used my F525 for mow all summer on my lawn and 4 others. Its not exactly a commercial grade front mower like a F737 or F687 but for this season it got the job done.

I was just wondering about Cub dropping the 7265. Is it really true and why? My dealer never told me that Cub was going to discontinue this model, imagine that! I go out and spend all this money on a new tractor and then I hear that Cub will stop making the 7265. I hope I won't have trouble getting parts for this tractor down the road or if I need service somebody that knows what they are doing. Boy, I'm glad Chevy didn't stop making Silverados after I got my new 02. Do you guys have any input on this, thanks.

The tractor has 804 hours and has been well maintained. The 3 pt mower is 1 year old. Asking $3400 for the pair. Is this a fair price? Also, what type of problems should I be looking for on a Yanmar tractor? This is my first experience with one, so any info is much appreciated.<br>

Any tire type (R1, R4, R3) will tear up grass and turf if you drive the tractor aggressively. A tractor wants to go straight, whether its 2 or 4 wheel drive. And that's what drives the tread sideways into the ground during turns. The condition of the ground is also a factor(wet/dry) and the season (ground thawing in the spring will be spongy much deeper than later in the summer).
I've run R1's on several CUT's on grassy fields, around lots of trees, and up/down slopes -- they can be used quite well without doing significant damage, IF, you avoid extreme turf conditions that make it easy to tear up.
I have a JDX595 with gator tires, and in 4wd it will strip off a lot of sod during turns if I am rambuncticous with my driving.
My rule of thumb is to get the tires that match your worst case requirements for traction, and then adjust your usage and driving for lesser conditions.

Try this if you already haven't,,, I think I paid less than 8,ooo,with a year and a half parts AND labor warrenty,it came with a 6 months parts and labor,and I bought an additional year off northern when I bought it,for a couple hundred,I havn't used the labor part yet but northern has sent me about 300 dollars in parts for it in the past year,I'm guessing.If you can get a warrenty like that get it,I have just finished reading some not to uplifting stories about a couple guys having some serious trouble in the first hundred hrs. There are two boards that people have been using,one is the one I gave you,if you want the other it may be on it somewheres.
