Does anyone know if there is an on-line source that lists specs for older (4200) tractors?

Next any feedback anyone can give me on the various 4200 transmissions? I'm looking at a geared 4200. The local Deere dealer that I contacted said they would only recommend the Hydro on that model. He said they had encountered problems with the linkage getting sloppy.

Thanks to everyone for all their help. You guys run a great forum.

Tractor tips (link below) has some basic specs on the JD 4200. Follow the link and click on the "specs, serial #,forum" cloud.
Machinerylink.com may have specs and information, also.

Mark likely can fill in all the details of what's available. Seems like many people are happier with HST than gears and maybe the dealer is nudging you in the direction that works for most of his customers.

If you're interested in gears you might ask the dealer to be a little more specific about what is meant by sloppy and how many hours does it take to get this way. Off the top of my head, sloppy could mean hard to shift, grinds or pops out of gear. There may be other things that qualify as sloppy.

For comparison of gear TX's, I'd look at whether there's synchromesh--especially on reverse gears, how many ranges it has and whether there's live pto. I don't know whether features such as glide shift and power reverse are available. These features are nice but many people who have gears without them get their work done just fine. ....

Guys,

Thanks for the help. Mark, I'll ask some questions next week as soon as I find out the year.
