You are not going to believe this but now I have a stray cat problem. I think the problem may be that we live across the street and down the road from an animal clinic and people are dumping their unwanted pets there. They come around our house looking for food. This cat is the friendliest cat I have ever seen. He had no collar and I thing he was dumped. Just did not have the heart to shoot him but our dog seems to be doing a good job of running him off. Been nothing but cat fights day and night around here for the past 3 days, he is not getting along with our 2 Manx cats.

Anyone have experience with these cartridges

Pulling them has it place for sure,depending on the situation. But you have to deal with the stump and roots
if you pull it. Also , a bigger hole to fix. In the woods
I just leave the chips and flatten it out.
Another point to consider is that trees are sensitive to change, ripping them out can kill the healthy one next
to it.
I often have contractors with all the big equipment call me to grind one that they don't want to pull for one reason or another.Here in Maine I do a lot of 3-5 foot maple and pine.
That is a good size root ball to deal with.
I have seen a 3pth grinder,perhaps that may be a solution?

Ask your Dealer how much cost per Deere unit sold costs for warrantee! Simple as that. I see what is going on in our area with the bigger farm tractors. just look at this board, Look at the other boards. They aren't perfect but as close as the industry has seen for quite some time. Look for manufactures that only have kept models out for two to three years instead of the standard of five for good units. It says it all and you don't have to look far. I can give you a list of some of the flops if you would like!

First things first. Check each glow plug to be sure they are not burned out. An ohm meter will tell you whithout doing anything but unplugging them what the resistance is between the center contact and ground. Each one should be roughly the same resistance, and none should be an open circuit or a dead short. They are basically heavy duty light bulb elements.<br>

If they all check OK, then next check that they are getting 12 volts.<br>

If both above are OK, then just cycle them for 5 to 10 seconds prior to cranking.<br>

No diesel should require any pre-heat at temperatures above freezing, but it will help at temperatures below about 50 degrees. <br>

Your machine may need the injectors done. Often they get worn or springs weaken and they don't like to start. A weak battery or starter motor will also not help any.<br>

If you hit a log and the shear pin bolt did not break and the rotary cutter was stopped or slowed by the log while the tractor was at pto operating rpm. VERY good chance that the pto clutch slipped and burned up. It may be a blessing i disguise as if the shear pin bolt did not do its job the clutch may have saved the pto power train from serious damage. You may not have the correct shear pin bolt installed. Verify what is the spec shear pin bolt.

Down time is costly, you are right about that. It is always good to look at a tractor that doesn't have a healty repair list history for your purchase. We often see that the lack of additional service and the unexpected repairs and downtime often exceeded any increase of preconcieved actual resale value. When you think of when you are going to be using your tractor as a hobby on a weekend or evening it is critical to remember that your use is normally when the support system for your tractor is not available. For the contractor working during the day there are options on nearly every corner in town. Purchasing new does or should help from having unexpected repairs.

IM, I like the idea of the push action of the ram on the bucket curl. There is alot more surface area on the end of the piston for greater force. In another thread there is discussion of using the bucket curl to rip out stumps after you push the tree over. I've been doing quite a bit of this lately and it's been my experience that this operation is the one that could use plenty of force.

I've owned a 4700 for 3+yrs now. Very pleased with it. It's just too big for some landscaping jobs though, looked at and bought a 2210. I have a number of complaints but none that would keep me from buying it again.

My list of (-); op presence with seat AND PTO. (You can get off the machine with it running (I disabled). Also disabled neutral start only. Let me be clear, I don't recommend doing this for ANYONE. No right/left brake. MUST use a ballast box with loader. Super pain to drain hydr. fluid. Fuel tank tool small. 3 point lift adjustments are a total pain (in/out), MUST get a quick hitch. Get chains with turf tires even for summer use if ground is slippery. More oriented to consumer than professional market.

on the (+) side: excellent power for such small chassis, I use a 72" 3pt finish mower with no problem. Gets in TIGHT spaces. Good turn radius. Of course well built. Decent lift height on loader, excellent lift capacity. Same mounts as any JD CUT bucket. 4WD a must with loader.

All in all, in spite of shortcomings, I love mine. Hope this helps.

I've seen people use CO monitors, the kind which have an aux. output designed to trip your house alarm, hooked up instead to a relay which automatically either opens the garage door, or just turns on an exhaust fan for a period of time, usually the type intend for bathroom ventillation.

This sort of thing is probably cheap insurance for an attached garage, or basement parking space. In my case the garage is well ventilated and seperated from the house by a solarium type arrangement so it's unnecessary.

Besdies, I rigged up a photocell on the front wall of the garage to the garage door opener, when you start the car the daytime running lights come on and the door goes up, 3 minutes after the light source (and presumably the car too) disappears the door goes back down. The missus is a little forgetfull sometimes, I call her the "darkest blonde I know".

Dennis, just this past year at least three people moved up to the BX22 from the 2200. I have several people that have the 22's and they talk that they would like to swap every couple of years with 200 to 300 hours on there units. The price of these units propably get the bulk of the people started into compact tractor land and the uses get them thinking bigger is better.

When we were first called on the BX2200 for it's problem it was just loosing anti-freeze and there was no over heating problem. This tractor only had about 20 hours on it at the time. Yours might have been a different problem but we have never had one just for overheating. We do have them out in the range of hours that you ran yours but with no failures there.

We used to use ATV's with blades for clearing sidewalks and they worked very well for that purpose, but all they had to do was basically roll 4' of snow off the sidewalk and over the curb into the parking lot where the plow truck could get to it.

Later we experimented with a subframe which held a small gas engine behind the ATV, and a snowblower intended for a garden tractor in the front. While it worked well it din't work any better than a good walk-behind model that cost half as much. Besides, you could only put one of them in the back of a truck, you can put 4 walk-behinds in the same pickup box.

Tom, part of the problem with this is trying to figure out if it is an electrical problem now or a mechanical failure of a hydraulic switch. As much as the electric's have made the JD a more sympathatic transmission for the operator's it also seems in this case giving the technician more time to properly diagnois the problem. We all know that about the time everyone gets a handle on the faults of a machine then they modifiy it so we loose our comfort level. I wonder what all these controllers will cost in 10 years? It really doesn't make to much difference what make it is to look at the potential as we see it most every day in this field.
