Thanx very much blizzard and TomG.
I found a hex head bolt just below and to the rear of the right seat hinge pivot. It has a jam nut. I pulled it out and it has an o-ring and a stem beyond that that could easily function as a sort of needle valve. I'll try backing it out next time I can start it up (it's too early right now in suburbia).

Me thinks the rubber compounds are way different also. We had lots of those kind of tires on broom tractors and a couple of other pieces of equipment. They have minimal flex and the rubber is hard as nails.<br>

Not wanting to speculate on this. JD uses 3 different kinds of fittings: they have o ring, pipe, comperssion meaning two flat surfaces with a machine groove for and o ring. There may be more yet.

Your best bet is to go to JD and suck up to the parts people they have all the different stuff on the shelf and can lay it all out so you have exactly the rigth part when you have oil running out.

The 4310 3 point is rated at more than 2000 lbs, so picking it up isn't an issue.

Mark, I see in the loader manual where you got those numbers. The columns for the 430 loader are different - one column is for unloaded tires with no weights and the other is for loaded tires with weights. It may be a typo. As printed it calls for 1320 lbs for unloaded tires with no weights and 1210 lbs with weights and loaded tires.

Thus my confusion. The loaded tires with weights would weigh, what, 1400 lbs already - why would you need another 1210 lbs on the 3-point?

I had forgotten you also had problems with dry soil. Here, it seldom gets really dry, and when it does traction with R1's is still acceptable. Using mid-range 4WD when on my pit-run driveway minimizes rutting while raking, back dragging and stump/log pulling.
The ideal tractor for this land would:
1) Be small enough to fit in the garage.
2) Fit my budget.
3) Have 28" ground clearance, because under the sod and
'clay loam' there's pretty firm clay/gravel.
( I can dream, can't I ? )

hi i am a retired commercial lawn and garden sales rep
stiener started in orhville oh. they are now in johnson creek wis. in the old ransomes bobcat factory i sold the 1986 s-20 4wd tractor in the madison wi area. the park district own a number of them and i sold many to commercial landscape contractors. i just sold a used 1987 s-20 w/ 60" mower and 48" tiller for 12,500 8 years ago. it had 950 hours on it. we short blocked the 20hp onan and replaced the main pump and drive motors with factory rebuilts. this is not typical of the durability of these units, this one ran all it's life on steep hills. the first 5 i sold are still in service and have over 2500 hrs on them. dealer cost on the s-20 was over $8500 without deck in 1986 the 48" deck sold for $1k dealer cost the 60" $1.4k. if the unit slows down at full throttle in high range after about 2-5 hrs under load the pump needs a rebuilt or replacement. even if it does i would buy it since a new one is about $14k last i heard

Dennis, I'm working on some of my customers to get on and comment about the work they do and times taken and what they are using. All to often I see people with few hours trying to get rid of, we call it Big Dreams! It is hard for us to help as often they have bought tractors to big to begin with and they want to go smaller for increased versatility. What size tractor does it take to run a 60" deck? Years ago the 154 Cub Lowboy did but not very good as far as some were concerned but the 184 and 185 were some of the greatest performers in there day. The BX is small like the deere X series, yet the 60 inch width deck is used till you get to 27 to 30 horsepower where the 72" might be used. The BX will take care of the normal duties on a three, five, seven acre mini estate as fast if not faster as any unit that you might spend thousands more; that might buy that 1080 trac-vac or another option. Some people prefer to have more types of units sitting to use for specific jobs but when you can use just one and find more uses to justify it life becomes easier and the garage has more room for other toys with fancy wheels on it!

Thanks for all the good info. I will change the oil with breakin oil & filter b4 putting it up for the winter. Should be a little over half way through the breakin period, so that should work out just fine. Thanks again.

BX definitly all that is needed here with a 60" deck. I still would question the chains unless you have a dirt driveway. Same size as 585 and all the features of the 2210. And splurge as the BX comes with a 50" blower on the front. The Trac-vac 1080 is an awesome outfit for clean-up. That is a Tim the tool timeyard keeper outfit if I ever saw one!!!! Ho HO HO!!!!

You are definitely right about repairing the block. The block part # I came up with is CH18173 and it lists for $1,857.98. Ouch!!! Did the block freeze and crack? In some cases the block can be welded or brazed well enough for things to work. I have seen where JB Weld was used on a boat engine to repair a crack that lasted for several years.

The success of these little tractors is amazing and the bad part of it is availability, with the success it has caused some degree of shortage. That is why they did cancel the 0% on the B's and the L's last month as they were having trouble filling the sold orders.

You might want to look at the three point hitch bale spears. The leverage even on a 500 lb bale would put you at your max.

I got the iMatch with my new 4110 and I love the gismo. Being new to tractors I didn't want to fight the hitch. A funny story...
My tractor was delivered with they rotary cutter attached and I wanted to start of by using the box scrapper first...
So I sat in my seat turned around lifted the 2 imatch handles and then lowered the hitch. Well, that was pretty easy...only thing left was now drive up to the box scrapper, so slowly stepped on the gas and pulled away...
Oh my gosh, I left the PTO attached and broke it...man I can't believe I already broke the implement before even using it... and what's with the darn thing breaking so easily...I thought tractors were tough...so got off and took a closer look and realized the shaft is telescoping and I just simply pulled it apart. What a relief :o)

stopped by the dealer...gave me the 2 cotter pins...couldn't give me a 4110 manual...didn't have any...so having one mailed to me from JD. While I was there also noticed the foot guards were not installed on my lx4 cutter...so they gave me a couple of those to install also. I'm beginning to wonder how much attention was paid to setting up my tractor, but, all in all, I'm OK with everthing right now. They were very nice about everyting :o)

I have recently purchased a S1000 and I am trying to find other S1000 owners. I am trying to find out information about it and if this tractor crosses over to any ford tractors. I do not even know what year it is. Thanks for any help in advance.

Dongfeng is a good tractor. I am not aware of the 204 being available in the US. Unless there has been a recent change (always a possiblity), the DF tractors are only sold in the USA through dealers for MAZAMA (Formerly Taskmaster and to my knowledge they start at 25HP). There is another brand called Dongfanghong, I beleive they have an 18HP and then some bigger ones.
Jinma also makes a good 204 and it is widely sold in the US meaning multiple parts sources, in fact I just unloaded a container of them at my place in Arkansas. email if you would like a quote.
