Here in Pennsylvania we've had a weekend of temps in the mid 70s, 20 degrees above normal. I took yesterday off and did some work around the house. Ya gotta love that November tan. Looking forward to the weekend where the temperature will be closer to normal. I love firing up the woodstove.

I have an E-394 Hinomoto. A previous owner cracked the transmission housing, welded it and painted over it. It is now broken again. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a new housing or how to properly weld the old one?

I think you are supposed to adjust the carburetor settings to accomodate the 50-1, and that is why my old Tanaka locked up. My stuff has been running fine so I did not want to fiddle with success, so I am adjusting the 50-1 to 40-1 and have had no problems.

For our more mechanically savy changing the carb setting should be easy enough to enable 50-1 I would think.

I was reading about some companies getting fined for calling people after they registered with them on their own do not call list. I still get tons of calls during meals and even on my cell phone. Some of these vendors say, "I am not with sales, I am with promotions." What do I care? It is sales any way you look at it rationally. <br>

I currently have a pay service where calls from solicitors are blocked if they do not display their caller ID. There is a message that tells salesmen to go away, but the good salesmen do not pay any attention to the message and call anyway. At least I can see who they are on the caller ID. <br>

So now, I have a pay service to screen/deter these guys, I have a set of phones that displays caller ID, and I still get calls. Even though the US government hasn't worked through the turf battles on this, there is a national "Do Not Call" registry. You can register on line at www.donotcall.gov You may enter up to three phone numbers. They will send you an email within minutes that you must confirm to be on the list. It is fairly easy. <br>

I don't know if it works or not, but it is one extra weapon in the arsenal. There are some exclusions to the rules, but the fines are significant for violators. The registration is good for five years.

How much snow (length of driveway) do you clear? Do yooun have any grade? How do you liike the blade? Do you feel blower would be better?

Did you try the Loader backblade before you went with the front snow blade?

If it is fenced, you might also allow someone to run some cattle in the location. My mother still lives on a portion of our old farmland and that is what she does. She gets rent for allowing the cattle to stay there and does not have any maintenance to contend with on the land. The cattle owner is responsible for repairing all the fences and so forth.

I'm not sure where you find those good deals on used equipment. I've been looking for about six months around here and the cheapest commercial style used chipper I've found was about $5k and it needed an engine rebuild (Ford gas engine). If I could find one for around $2k I'd cancel my order on the Jinma and snap it up.

I had the impression that the rolling circumference on R-1's represented the casing diameter and that the rolling circumference on all others was the actually tread diameter under a load.

I have been out of town for a few days and now I am trying to catch up here. It is amazing how much traffic this site generates in 5 days.

A couple reasons the 4110 is priced higher than the 7500.... The 4110 has a position controlled three point while the 7500 has a stop/drop system, and...... the 4110 price would include all the hydraulics for the front loader built into the tractor while the 7500 includes the hydraulics in the price of the loader.

The treadle pedal on the BX is easy to use.... IF... you don't make the assumption that you need to rest your foot on top of the pedal and rock it back and forth like an old sewing machine.

Instead, rest your foot on the floor next to the pedal and operate it like the B7500 pedal by shifting your foot back and forth to go the desired direction.

Ken, the ole' Chief speaks wise words indeed as does Art & AC.

If you don't mind a little tinkering, you can probably find an old gear winch from an old wrecker in the junk yard. These were driven from an open chain running up from a PTo on the tranny of the old trucks. You can then do one of two things, find a small hydraulic motor to chain drive it, or mount it onto a plate fo steel and chain it to an adapter which slips over the PTO on your tractor and mounts on the 3pth.

As for capacity, the weight of the object you need to pull doesn't have as much to do with it as it's ability to roll, or in this case, it's resistance to moving in the desired direction. In other words it would lkikely take less power to make a loaded semi move on flat level ground than it would to drag a CUT buried to the differentials out of a mud pit.

I would have to say you would probably be better off spending a few bucks on a set of 4 tire chains, the diamond pattern type with carbides.

Usually, tractor wheels are dished in one direction and unlike car wheels can be reversed on the hub so that the dish effect creates a wider track.

That means the valve stem might be on the inside, but that is a minor inconvenience.

I tried to take a picture like that, but the resolution of my camera is not high and all you end up with is a few points of light on a dim background. You cannot see the effect of the light on the road. I have some much brighter wired lights around the courtyard in front of my house, and even those don't show up any differently. When I shrink the images down, the small items that you can see get even worse. I have tried various settings on the camera and it just does not take good pictures in dim light.

I am not saying that these lights make the road bright like a city streetlight, but they do mark the edge of the road, stay lit all night, and provide enough light that you can walk on the road at night. We are at a high enough altitude and the air is extremely dry and clear, so we don't get much backscatter light off of the sky. For the pilots in the group, the visibility often goes beyond 80 miles. Astronomers regularly set up on my property and nearby because the sky is so dark. On a dark night without these lights, you cannot see your feet or the driveway. It is like having your eyes closed or being in a cave.

I saw the SS light that I think that you were referring to. It is a very nice looking light. I think that the cost was $50. So, for 10X of the price, I would expect them to be brighter. But the duration of the light is only 8 hours and that was one of the things that I disliked about the Seimens lights that I had before.

These lights work in my situation. Your situation is certainly different, so they may not work for you. But, for the price of one of the expensive lights, you can try a whole set of these Malibu lights. If you want a very bright landscape light, you should look at the more expensive alternatives.

Everyone seems to have hit the high points. Sounds to me like you shut the engine off quickly while you still had oil left in the system. Replace the hose (as already mentioned the kevar hose wrappers are extra protection), fill the main res. up. Turning the steering full stroke lock to lock a few times will aid in purging any air left in the system. Be very aware during this initial start up listening for unusual noises (from the pump) and looking for any leaks. Shut her down & let set for a few minutes to let oil settle in res. Check oil level again, top off to proper level if required. Let it run and warm up to full operating temp. and try turning the wheels lock to lock again just to be sure no leaks or problems when warmed up. I think you will be fine. Let us know how the repair went.

Could be a ballast box I guess, but it'd still be the same hookup.

I used my box scraper several times that weren't very satisfactory both in terms of time and results and then got a hydraulic top-link. Before the top-link the scraper was destined to be mostly ballast now it's among my most used implements.

Blade angle is almost everything to how a box scraper works and a hydraulic top-link lets you adjust it on the fly. I'm almost constantly adjusting mine. For working foreword, rolling the back of the box up (shortening the link) increases the cutting action. Lengthening it reduces the cut till the box will simply drag a load. Lengthening it further will start spreading material that's in the box. It works the other way when using the rear cutter in reverse.

I never found the 3ph worked well for controlling my scraper. Now I just use lots of float and control the action almost entirely with the top-link.

The manual for the 1914 lists several oils you can use. The only one I could find was valvoline unitrac at napa. About 45.00 for 5 gal.

Good the tractor is now doing its job. Although exact problem now seems as irrelevant as history, but mechanic could have meant bushings if they were something that was binding the steering in one direction or binding one of the PS cylinders.

It's good to keep in mind that not all apparent hydraulic failures have anything to do with the hydraulic system. Just a possibility but maybe a good history lesson. What's the expression? 'Those who don't know History are doomed to repeat it.'

Mine won't be too helpful a comment since I'm saying that there's a possibility what you describe is normal operation for quite a few different tractors--it's still aggravation though.

Loaders that pause half way through a dump usually don't have a fast dump feature. The load expels oil from the loader faster than the pump can deliver it. The load dumps most of its weight and then pauses until the pump catches up. Increasing engine rpm reduces the pause. I'm a gear head myself but I think I recall that some HST tractors just don't spin the wheels in high range. If that's what's going on somebody more familiar with HST's might comment on how common the problem is.

I confused things when I mentioned stabilizers--my fault. My mount uses two top-links that run from a plate mounted on the drawbar to either side of the hoe top-link mount. They lock down the 3ph, stabilize it and likely distribute some of the load from the top-link bracket to the drawbar. I should have called them something other than stabilizers. When I mentioned adjusting the mount or keeping it tight I usually mean adjusting these top links. The can loosen during operation so I check them periodically. Your mount may be different. I also periodically check the case bolts and inspect the case seams for spread, but I haven't found any.

The digging force of any hoe tends to jackknife the tractor at the case seams. For 3ph mounts the forces are mostly top-link compression. Force from the bucket and leverage from long arms rotates the hoe on it's lower link pins against the top-link bracket. A sub-frame hoe produces the same forces but the frame distributes them more evenly.

Mine is a 6' modest powered hoe on a 24hp tractor. It's on the small side for the tractor, but when I use my hoe I still it easy. I feather the valves to prevent sudden movements and I don't try to break big roots or move large rocks. In particular, I avoid digging with the hoe stretched out, which requires moving the tractor more often. Digging with the hoe stretched out places huge compression on the top-link and that type of use is likely the origin of most stories about 3ph hoes breaking tractors.
