Try checking out the cabs made by Laurin. I have a 4100 and looked at Sims, Cozy, Curtis etc. I found that the nicest in my opinion was made by Laurin, it replaces the ROPS and is quite roomy and has A/C as an option. The problem for me is that none of the cabs out there fit with a backhoe so I will be building my own over the winter.

My experience with sliding gear TX's is that they can stop in a position where they just won't go into gear. Spinning the shafts a bit by engaging the clutch slightly will reposition things and allow shifting without grinding. But you likely know this since you owned N's and Green had a similar tractor so what's happening probably isn't normal.

I'm familiar with two stage dry clutches and the TX clutch disengages before the pto clutch and a dragging pto clutch shouldn't affect the TX unless it's out of alignment. I seem to recall that some JD's have wet clutches and there are release issues with some of them. It'll be good to hear what the JD tech says.

If the manual doesn't give specific torque specs for them the torque likely is intended to be taken from a general table. There's usually a table somewhere that gives torque by bolt size and sometimes also by thread and grade but it's more likely that all general hardware on a tractor uses the same thread type and grade. A table like that probably is somewhere in a repair manual and I think there's one in my owner's manual as well. Using values from a table should proof you against stripping threads unless they're softer bolts, and you can blame JD (small satisfaction) if they loosen.

I was too busy figuring an organized way to sort out the problem and forgot to mention an obvious test and I also assumed it's a conventional water-cooled diesel engine.<br>

Looking through the rad cap hole when the engine is at operating temp is a quick check for many coolant system problems. The coolant should be swirling due to the pump flow after the thermostat opens--assuming the tractor has a water pump, thermostat or rad for that matter. It does help to know how normal flow looks though. Some more assumptions on my part are that the the oil filter is right and reasonable new and that the oil pump pressure-relief valve is OK because a new pump was installed.<br>

Thanks for your response guys ! I'm not a paying member yet,so I didn't get to read your complete comebacks but what I did read definitly helps. I did a lot of reading on here before getting the backhoe for my tractor and was intent on getting a subframe with the hoe. So when mine showed up without one, I wasn't a happy camper. After several phonecalls to the dealer and getting the reply I told you about,I figured that maybe since the tractor itself only weighs in at a little under 1500 lbs., it must not be heavy enough to hurt itself without a subframe. I've only got about 6 hours on it and so far so good. Thanks again, Mark

All I can say is for 14,900 out the door with the FEl w/ grll guard, HD 61" bucket hooks welded on, LX-5 cutter w/slip clutch, R-4s it is a great tractor. I have done everything with it that I could imagine and it does great while sipping fuel. <br>

It does not have the greatest lift capacity but it lifts the ammount that is safe for a tractor of this weight I had 800+ pounds on the rear end today and it was safe but anymore and it would be on the borderline.<br>

On the "other" site there is a guy who upped the hydro pressure with a few shims from Deere. He says it is still within safe tolerances and the loader and 3pt have much more oomph. I will probably do it but remember if you do it it will be easier to get into trouble with balance issues. <br>

I will use it for those occasions where I need to scoop from the bottom of big heavy piles or moving heavy objects. It will only be one rare occasions so I don't fear any extra wear or other issues.<br>

If you start to mow extensively, here's a head's-up. The designers of this series of machines put the radiator behind the engine, just in front of the instrument panel. The air access is thru grills to the side and under the steering wheel. Sheer brilliance (not..!!).
Apparently the designers didn't bother to take a prototype out into a field to test-mow a few acres. Because the mower throws up a decent amount of clippings, leaves, etc that are drawn to these access grills by the air flow. The grills then become clogged. The operator has to continually clean the grills, else the engine overheats.
Deere sent out an advisory on this situation, warning owners not to allow the temp to run up into the red, which were reported by many owners. The tone of the letter was irritating -- sort of, it's your fault if you aren't diligent in wiping off these grills. And guess what, they didn't really get it correct -- the real problem isn't so much these exterior grills as it is the internal screen just in front of the radiator. If this puppy gets blocked, the engine temp just rockets up. The operator needs to remove the left exterior screen to get at the inside one for cleaning. I change my oil more frequently during the mowing season 'cause I'm worried about the affect of the heat.

I had the same problem with my 280 last year. Check under the tractor and you will find a rubber plug on the bottom of the case. pull it out and throught it as far as you can. These tractor were made to be driven in rice patties so the clutch case is sealed and will condisate over time if not drained. Mine ended up with a frozen throught out bearing which took out the clutch plate and pressure plate fingers.

Does any know the sequence for the PTO handle on a 2843. My tractor does not list any and seems to have three positions as follows: All the way up is FASTEST Speed, next down is NEUTRAl, next down is SLOWEST speed, next down is NEUTRAL, next down is MEDIUM speed. I am trying to match up the correct position for the 2X 540 RPM on the speedometer.<br>

I'm getting ready to pour a pad for a customer to be used for a 16x24 aluminum enclosed patio/rec room. I built some forms for a 3 to 10 inch high by 8 inch wide stem wall to form the perimeter of the pad. (It's being built on top of an existing sloped 3" slab).<br>

So I get my rebar pins in place, build in the sump pump well, and drain lines to reroute water around the slab. I order 65 60lb bags of ready mix concrete from home depot and when I open a few of them up to pour in around the sump pump drain, I realize that they gave me post hole cement instead of regular readymix (jerks!).<br>

So now I'm faced with carrying the 65 bags 150' back to my truck and hauling them back to Home Depot, getting the right kind, and manually hauling them 150' back to where the mixer/forms are. ...... or?<br>

Is it possible to somehow turn this stuff into structural cement? Can I add 1/2" or 3/4" aggregate and some cement to this stuff and get it to behave like real cement? The load this wall is to support is a 3" slab of concrete (from a truck and pump) and the lightweight room. The area under inside the form (under the slab will be filled with peagravel). It's in Southern Ca. so freezing isn't an issue if that matters.<br>

Anyone around who really understands concrete mixture and wants to lend their expert opinion on this? I really don't wnat to haul all that concrete back out there and it's replacement back if I don't have to.

Just got this from my Kubota dealer:

"... differences between 00 and 30 series- 1. 30 series has cruise control, newer dash & different seat cushion. If you elect to go with loader on a 30 series, the valve goes with tractor and on a 00 series it goes with the loader. ..."

Just thought I'd add what I know. Still shopping for a BX.

We got the LK3054 with a KL1230 loader and R4 tires. The dealer welded 3 hooks on the top of the bucket for us. We are looking forward to getting it dirty.

I use compressed air to blow the bulk of the dirt and debry off and then either use the hose and nozzle to spray off the rest with maybe some spray on soap/degreaser. I use the pressure washer periodically but try to be careful with it around switches, electronics, and in the engine area around the alternator and air filter. I also keep the nozzle well back from the surfaces so I am not blasting it with heavey pressure, it more evenly dispursed and not so strong. A little care and common sense and you should be OK.

Power Service fuel additive is as good as any. I use it in my Cummins along with John Deere Summer Formula, & Howes.

Sounds like you have the general idea on the dip stick marks.

Make sure you use a strong jack stand or substantial blocking while jacking. I am sure Art or one of the other will jump in with good advice on jacking beyond that.

Running the gambit here is a southern animal joke (for Chief).

An Army Ranger was on holiday in the depths of Louisiana, where he tried to buy some Alligator shoes. You need to make a lot of noise when walking in bear country. They claim that many people are attacked because they essentually sneek up on the bear and do not give him time to determine that you are not food.<br>
In timber cruising in grizzly country we normally took dogs and a pump 12 gauge with shot. Your target gets pretty small if they decide to run at you. You only have a heart or head shot. A charging bear can move very quick. I have heard of a 30-06 round glancing off the thick slanted cranium of a grizzly or large black bear. The 12 gauge will stop them if they get too close and makes a great little noise machine.<br>
Finally bears will eat oil. They even go after the mixed fuel. When falling in the high country we had to keep doubles of everything and try and hid them where they could not find. Once the area is cleared it become a bear deli as they go in looking for grubs etc. I have spent weeks with the black following me checking out the last trees that went down. At least it was natural behavior.
