I'm hours away from going to Tazewell and buying a PT425. Have researched this site and another, and for my needs this seems the best value. I live on 8.5 mountain forest acres (grades up to 20 or 35 degrees) with a quarter mile lane that needs scraping and gravel from time to time, and I would like to clear walking trails among the trees and do some landscaping, tree planting, and fallen tree skidding. Anyone have any last minute advice? Any new usage reports?

I only wish that was the case, between the irrigation system (groundwater from the pond) and fertilizer regime I'm still cutting it weekly, up until Labour day it was twice weekly.

The grass catcher on my mower uses a 44 gal. Rubbermaid industrial garbage can as a receptacle, an average cut produces 6 full bins of cuttings, compost anyone?

Oh well, at least I have a good excuse... I'd love to do that for you Honey, but I have to go cut the grass... ;->

Dave, the local Yamaha golf car distributor, who is also the areas largest Toro turf equipment & irrigation equipment distributor usually has a good selection of used cars in stock, however I'm not sure how much cheaper they would be, even with the exchange rates, they are not known for their discount prices, nudge, nudge, can you say 'exclusive territiory'.<br>

I was looking at their site, and even though it is a little out of date, it still shows that the used units are about US$1500 to US$1750 (CDN$200 to CDN$2500) but mind you they are not junk either.<br>

As for the lift kits, knobby tires, etc., a lot of non-golf users up here do nothing more than swap the back two tires for standard lawn tractor tires and go. You would only need a lift kit and aggresive tires to venture into the really tough stuff, they're pretty good off-road right from the factory.<br>

Mine was actually a contra deal, we did some work on the house of the owner of one of the courses I deal with and forgot to bill him, he in turn forgot where he left one of his golf cars....LOL<br>

I built my own 7000 capacity dual axle trailer. I had learned to weld by repairing the metal targets for a gun club, and the trailer was my first project. All I used was a 4" angle grinder to cut the pieces to length, and a 110 V, 100A AC stick welder. The 110 welder really didn't have enough penetraction; I really had to go slow to get good welds. One of my clients from work gave me the majority of the 4" "C" channel, 3/16" thickness, left over from a construction project. So, I have about $500 in it. I've used it to haul my TC29 with backhoe to local destinations; the furthest I go with it is to haul my Farmall A (~1800 lbs) 250 mile round trip to the antique pulls.

If you pay yourself for your time, it is a losing deal. Some of the most difficult tasks are manipulating the frame as it gets close to being done. Too heavy for one person to move and flip over, etc. On the other hand, it is a good way to learn to weld (you have to have a project to work on to really learn to weld), you have the satisfaction of building it yourself, and you can pay for it piece by piece as you go along.

A water level will work and is very accurate. Connect clear tubing to a garden hose and let the water rise to its own level along the length of the project.

Water levels hold a fixed volume and need to be recalibrated when you move them, so I don't like to use them for checking intermediate points. I use a cheap laser level and set it up over the long interval with a water level. A cheap laser level may be good enough on its own, but in combination with a water level, you can level to better than 1/4" over your 80 ft distance.

I agree with Dave's comments. I don't know much about Cooper tires, but they have been around a good while and I have not heard anything bad.

re: Out of Round tires...All of these that I have seen have been tread separations. The bad thing about this is that you can balance them at one speed, but they will still have a problem and the tread has often come loose at the belts, so they are dangerous to continue to use. The treads can become separated because of heat, underinflation, and a variety of other reasons. (including poor puncture plugs)

Mahindra has just released the "15" series, 2015(20 hp), <br>
2615(26hp) both hydro's, mid mount pto, mower, loaders. Similar in sizes to the B7500 and B7800 Kubota and the John Deere 4110 and 4115. Come take a look at them at the Orange Fair This weekend Sept 20, 21, 2003.<br>
We will have both models on display, Sat and Sun. Sept 20, 21, at the Orange Country Fair, RT152(Orange Center RD), Orange, CT and as well as other Mahindra models and Befco implements . The bare tractor is worth around $7500. Depending on the condition of the impliments and attachments if they are in good shape; you didn't do too bad. What are your impressions and observations, now that you have had it for awhile. Sorry about the late reply to this post. I never saw it until Dennis put up the Unanswered Questions Feature. I figured late is better than never. Just didn't want to see your post go unanswered.

We did have an 870H,loader 72" belly and cab and 300 hours. We finally sent it to a big compact auction and it brought 8500, we were asking 10,500. We sent about two tractor trailer loads and several straight trucks to the auction with equipment. Found we were asking to much on that one and a few more and to little on others.

Ballast boxes are too one dimensional for my taste.

If you have a 600 pound box or a barrel filled with concrete and you drop it off the tractor you are going to have to put it back on the tractor if you need to move it.

It's not the best picture but look at my #15. It shows a set of carry-all 3 point forks modified with a 24x48 tray and a trailer hitch. The unloaded implement weighs about 175 pounds and you can put as much or as little weight on it as you need.

In the picture there is a 65 gallon water tank (575 pounds)on the tray but it will also hold up to 27 cement blocks (730 pounds) plus room for tools, rope, chain, trash, etc.

Because you can unload it, it is very easy to store, maneuver, attach and detach.

BTW, the rule of thumb for MINIMUM ballast is the weight of the unloaded FEL added to the rear of the tractor. I'm guessing you loader weighs about 600 pounds.

The MAXIMUM ballast would be the weight of the loader plus the weight of the load. If you have a 54 inch bucket that is an additional 600-700 pounds.

E-Z weights are an easy way to add about 300 pounds of easily handled ballast to your tractor.

I posted the original message. I installed the new anti-scalp roller and am very satisified. I was able to lower my deck about 1/4" and have no scalping issues now. My 72" mower is First Choice and the roller was a Sicma. Evidentially, these mowers share some common parts or are made by the same Italian Company. Thanks for all the feedback.

Great minds think alike Mark! ;-) That is exactly what I did yesterday. That is exactly what I did yesterday. I installed four brand new Taskmaster 205-75D-15 tires yesterday. I got them mounted at Walmart for $3.50 each. The remaining tires showed signs of impend tread separation. No way I am spending $90 a piece for Marathon trailer tires again. Trailer tires set too much and will dry rot before you wear them out. Can't beat the Taskmasters for less than $30 a piece! I wouldn't feel nearly so bad about chucking them in the trash. These tires come standard on Ja-Mar trailers so they can't be that bad.

The two items that you describe, starting and tip wear, can be related. When a plasma cutter has not transferred the arc, it arcs against the tip and tends to wear it faster. So, the consumable life on the Hypertherm may very well be related to its finicky nature about starting and transferring the arc.

When a plasma arc starts, it produces a pilot arc to the consumable nozzle. When the arc transfers, there is little current going to the nozzle and the arc is supposed to go directly from the internal electrode through the nozzle creating a hot plasma and out the nozzle to have the circuit completed at the workpiece. Once the arc is transferred there should be little nozzle wear. So, the consumable life on the Miller may very well be related to the type of usage that it saw and because it had reverted to a pilot arc more often than you Hypertherm.

I use a silica gel air dryer before my plasma cutter air line. You don't want any water in there, and even water vapor is not good. It is easier to ionize dry air.

Traded my 4300 hydro for a 4610 power reverser just last month. Only have about 18 hours on the new one, so don't haven't really formed an opinion whether I like it better than the old hydro or not. My wife definitely does not like it...therefore I'm getting more butt in the seat tractor time than I used to. Couldn't keep her off the old one. The only difficulty I'm having is mental agility...that is, transposing the old foot action to the left hand power reverser lever. Have done okay moving round bales and doing loader work...just have a slow reaction time if I don't keep it in the front of my mind. BTW, the 4610 is MUCH more of a tractor than the 4300 was.
