I think that mostly depends on the dealer. I've heard of it done four ways - some dealers have a policy of always doing this, some dealers have a policy to never do it, some do it on a case by case basis, and some do it if you negotiated it during your purchase. I'm not sure there is any "reasonable" position. Some dealers may sell at a lower price and they cut their overhead to do so, which means they would probably be less likely to provide free pickup and delivery.

Had a similar situation with BF Goodrich on our conversion van at 25-30,000 miles they were not wearing well. No underinflation but they got eaten up on the outsides from the weight and sideways push of the high top van in cornering. I ended up cutting one down...and then it got worse.

I WILL never buy Goodrich tire but not because of the wear issues. These were OEM equipment on many the GM vans and suburbans around 1998- 2000? , literaly millions of vehicles and Goodrich cancelled the pattern just 2 years later:(. That meant everyone who owned one of those vehicles had to buy an entire new set if they blew out one tire!

REAL NICE, Being a customized van these were white outlined tires on sporty alloy rims I had to get 4 new tires. Turning them around for blackwalls would have looked out of place.

I have also heard that some of the tire manufacturers make OEM tires that are made out of very soft rubber compounds so you get a great ride and handling at the showroom but the tradeoff is they wear horribly????? It may be true some of these tires are not available other than as original equipment.

drcjv, how deep will the TSC PHD dig? I am considering getting one to dig 12" holes 36" deep with a JD 790. TSC will have the digger on sale for $299.99 (plus $109.99 for 12" auger)September 17-23rd (I saw an advance copy of the sale flyer in the store today).

Does anyone have any experience with PHDs and the JD 790? Specifically, how deep can it dig with the TSC or other inexpensive digger?

In the last week or so, I have been unable to engage the rear PTO on my TC-33 (185 Hours). It has always been difficult to engage but now I can move the handle full forward with a gread deal of effort but it is obvious that the linkage is giving and nothing is actually moving. Has anyone else had this problem - any solutions?<br>

I would wonder if the dealer lowered the pressure after shipping. They place more pressure in the tires so the tractors do not bounce around and loosen the chains. Normally you run no more than 30 psi in the tires, as low as possible for traction. I have had punctures in my tires and cuts with the pressure there should be no blow out.

The attached link to ez-weights shows a relatively inexpensive way to get wheel weights. It's about 1/3 the cost of weights from the dealer. A lot of people also attach a rear implement for additional weight. I use my box blade for that purpose.

we currently have a hypertherm 1000 the tips do last a little longer than our older miller we used to have which saves on operating cost but i found the hypertherm harder to use it can be aggrevating to start or keep the pilot arc burning.you must have a really clean grounding surface. the miller was much easier in that manner. the miller model we had is no longer made now and i have not used any other brands.

Chief, are you sure those tires are rated for the load you carry on your trailer? It sounds like they may have been overloaded, overheated, and then separated. There are a lot of trailer manufacturers around and it wouldn't surprise me to find that some of them put tires on that won't carry a full rated load. If you have a weighmaster somewhere close by it may be worth loading up the trailer and taking it down to have it weighed just to be sure. I've seen full size work vans pop tires and we had to go from the OEM 8 ply to a full 12 ply to carry the load. 8 plys were fine for moderate loads but these guys carried lots of pipe and metal plumbing parts and were just too heavy for the factory tires (probably too heavy for the van, too, but that's another issue).

No site that I am aware of Dave. You have my e-mail, send me a note and I will explain more if you wish. He is an Ez Go dealer as well as my youngest son's old soccer coach. He has two machines that are made by EZ Go that are similar to ones on the website Murf posted but look more like a 4x2 gator. He wants to get rid of them in the worst way, paying floor plan. One is reduced to 5k the other 6k, I believe one has a dump box.

Based on engine horsepower, the Kubota 3130 is equivalent to the JD 4310 and the Kubota 3430 is equivalent to the JD 4410. They're all great machines.

Which one you choose probably should have more to do with price, dealer support, and how the machine fits you than which is "best".

I chose the JD 4310 over the Kubota 3430 mostly because I liked the ergonomics a little better and the Kubota dealer in my area is pretty poor. Other folks like the Kubota ergonomics just fine. If our local Kubota dealer was any good it would have been a much tougher decision for me to make.

Don't know why people would send a riding tractor for a tuneup every year,I guess because I do my own stuff so I am jaded, and what could be simpler to empty the oil and put a new filter on, I have had gas engines that I have run for 20 years with the same plug and points/condenser, if it ain't broke why send it out?<br>

Why was it going to the shop? was it off some how? What did it die of ? Broken Piston rod ruptured cylinder wall? How soon after maintenance? Art is right the engine is probably the best piece of the sears tractor. Some of the Sears tractors have very nice Kohler engines in fact, and Briggs, and Tecumseh or Ok I guess as well.<br>

I had a Pontiac once that broke a timing chain under warranty. When I got it back it ran rough, I took it out on the highway and it broke a couple of valve rods.<br>

On inspection I found the mechanic had put the spark plug wires on the wrong cylinders, ooops that's not good. No question about what casued the failure<br>

The failure may have nothing to do with the maintenance at all, can't say without more info, but that Diesel Oil thing is spookie I have to say, very strange. Strange also that your mother in law was looking at the oil color, if she was looking at the oil she probably could have changed it herself. Since these engines don't have filters the oil will get dark quickly anyway also, depends on when it was checked right after receipt or how long after?<br>

Thanks for the information! I'm really impressed with the knowledge and quick response of the folks on this board.

Today the dealer found out that the "owner" is going into bankruptcy, and the tractor may be tied up for some time in court. I'm looking at a new 790 as a possibility, which would have the advantage of the full-size 419 loader instead of the narrower bucket on the model 70. With the financing incentives, a new tractor looks better all the time!

These seemed like a good deal, but a friend of mine that bought one had a maintenance nightmare. He convinced me to buy a new CUT with backhoe attachment instead.

I cannot tell you which ones to avoid.

I guess that I had envisioned a larger structure. I agree that it might be difficult to slip in a 16' 8X8 with a half inch of clearance. I think that you should be able to lift the side of the building with three or four jacks and a good beam.

I do wonder if you could build the sill up out of 2X8s or a group of 2X6s and a 2X8 cap. You could then stagger the ends of the shorter pieces of lumber and have a joint.

Wow! Don't remember seeing this one. Anyhow, sorry it got by without a reply. First off belated welcome to the board. Secondly, congratulations on a fine new tractor. Nice choice! ;-) I would imagine that by now you have close to 50 hours on this machine if not more. If you have not already done the 50 service; get your filters, oil, spare belts, etc. so you will have them on hand when the time comes. Doing the service is not hard at all and allows you to get a first hand look at any potential maintenance issues (hopefully none) and save a few bucks at the same time. The 50 hour service is the most important service and should be done on time with no short cuts. If you don't already have one; now is a great time to get a torque wrench so you can check/verify torques on wheels and other specified critical areas shown in the owner's manual. You may also want to buy some diesel fuel conditioner (although not required, is a good maintenance practice). Other things you may want to think about are front and rear facing work lights. I recently installed them on mine and it was a great improvement. On your mower, it is a good idea to grease the spindles each or at least every other use. I give mine a few pumps of grease each use. Although not a problem on all compacts John Deeres; it is a good idea to check the battery compartment after each use to ensure no battery acid has bubbled out of the battery and been drawn into the radiator. Mine does this so I keep a close eye on it. Aside from that, wear the John Deere hat with pride and enjoy!

I would like to replace the Magnum18 in my Cub Cadet 1812. I noticed the Command series engines are cheaper. The best price I found on a Magnum is $1600. I can buy a new CH25 for $1200. Anyone know what spec code would work? I believe the Magnum to be 24646. I know the shft height is the same, I know I need an 1 1/8" X 2 51/64. Any input? Where is best place/price to get engine?

By the time you buy the K+N, their filter oil and consider your time, I doubt that it is a bargain. It takes a lot of time to wash one out properly, let it dry, and re-oil it.

A better bet might be to buy a second paper air filter and just swap out for a clean one and clean the dirty one when it is convenient.

If it is a real problem for you, there is a type of add-on filter that works. I think one brand used to be called the Donaldson Cyclopac. It is a horizontal canister with an element but it also swirls the air to centrifugally separate out dust particles that are expelled through a rubber valve. I have used these on off-road cars before as a pre-filter. I have also seen them used on construction equipment like skid steer loaders and such.

You would have to adapt the NH intake to pull air through a hose from the Cyclopac, but they do really work. You would also have to decide how to mount it. It is a cylindrical canister that is about 10" in diameter and 18" long. I have also seen vertical cyclonic filters on 18 Wheel Truck/tractors. (canister mounted to the side of the hood.)
