No fair !! you are like the equivelent of the NASCAR pit crew, and its all about speed. You can service these machines in your sleep!!. I'm slow no doubt about it, but it takes me longer with my older 125, compared to the newer 3204. The newer models are more tool-less designs. <br>

I like to check things when cold. That way the oil is not expanded from heat. It might show a little low the first time but if a leak occurs then you have some extra fluid there. The implements should always be in the same position but it still shouldn't make a lot of difference.

Dennis, I agree with the testosterone. The BX and the B-7500 as well as the B2410 all take 60" decks. So for mowing efficency it goes back to the BX. The smallest tractor and the largest deck make the best mower. The next move up up would be the B-27-29-7800 chassis with the 72" deck. That is it in a nut shell, ask any pro mower!

In regards to the vinegar and salt, would that just be a matter of sparying the ground with vinegar, spreading salt, waiting for it to be absorbed, and whala, problem solved?
I have property that borders a lake, where I have rip rap stone 6' high, on a 45d angle, along the bank. Large weeds, small weeds, small trees, even grass grow up between the rocks, and a couple times a year I have the task of walking the rocks and pulling them up. I am hesitant to use a strong chemical due to the run off entering the lake (not that high quantities of vinegar is). Would this be a good alternative, and is there a certain method of broadcasting that will yield high returns?

You can replace a leaking plug. I much prefer patches on the inside of a tire. Patches work and hold up well, but they are much more work to apply especially with fluid filled tires. You may choose to settle for just replugging the tire.

I use plugs for emergency repairs on my off-road vehicles and then remove or cut off the plugs and do permanent repairs with patches. I also have a feeling that plugs have been responsible for a number of tread separations that I have seen by leaking air into the ply area. On my street vehicles, I only use inside patches.

Mark H has suggested many reasons for not using fluid ballast and I think that repairing a tire should be near the top of that list. If you decide to patch the tire on the inside, you might want to consider pumping out the opposite tire also and adding wheel weights instead. Running air filled tires will allow you to run puncture sealant and should provide a softer ride.

Jeff this is way off topic but I really have one issue with the earlier post.
At the time the US did not consider that it won the war read the papers and I have never met a US service man that was near the front that talks that way. They understood the sacrifices of our friends. It is the subsequent generations with the help of the media that confuse the issue.
Canada also supplied food and material to all the allies including the US. Intelligence OSS people were mostly trained in Canada. Did it win the war? For sure Eh!!
I guess I never understood how materials become more important than intelligence and human blood.

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback. As it turns out, it was the lower drive pulley (or sheave as JD calls it) on the PTO which was the culprit. The pulley is a double-belt pulley with a splined hub to slide onto and drive the splined shaft of the front PTO. The splines on the pulley where worn down and caused the pulley to slip when under load. I replaced the pulley and problem solved. The pulley cost $110, which seems steep for a pulley, but I guess it could have been worse.

I'm not sure what caused the splines to wear down? My dealer said he's seen this one other time. The shaft is fine, as that's hardened steel. I guess after 25 years of use, something's bound to wear down...

rcn the valve settings are in the service manual and should be easily obtained from the service dept at your dealer. When the mechanic came out to my house he had the book with him.

If you want the Backhoe, you really want the BX22. It has a re-enforced frame and the hoe is made to work with the BX22. If you want a new 2200, I would wait a little while. The new version, BX2230 is coming out with some nice upgrades. Your dealer will have all of the info after their October (first week) dealers' meeting.

FYI...The new BX2200s (called BX2230) will be coming out in October. The BX22 will not be coming out as a new model and the BX22 is a little different then the BX2200, it has a re-enforced frame to support the backhoe.
BX1800 will be BX1830.

The 790 is one of the models that has "light" loader specs for its size and weight.

It would be a good guess that the front axle strength may be a limiting factor.

If you go to an aftermarket loader it would be wise to stick to the factory hydraulic parameters. There isn't enough savings in an aftermarket loader to tempt me. I suspect your resale value would be better with the Deere loader as well.
