My two sure-fire methods are;

1) douse it (or at least part of it) in gasoline then toss in a lit safety flare, or,

2) use a propane 'tiger' torch, the big 250,000 btu burners on the end of a 3' wand that they use for patching flat roofing.

If this pto clutch is an electric clutch, check to see if it has gotten oil soaked or wet. They will behave like you described in this condition. Either that or a previously said, a loose or slipping belt.

I had a fitting blow off a rubber whip line, someone had patched it with a barb-type fitting but the Tridon steel hose clamp used to fix it in position failed. The fitting went across the shop then bounced most of the way back, luckily there was nobody in it's path.

Let me tell you I was VERY glad to have a shut-off nearby.

With 100 gallons of reservoir tanks at 130psi I think it might have whistled for some time before it drained the system.

As a dealer I feel it is my job to be able to service and keep the machines we sell working with service and replacement parts. Being in buisness for two generations and know some machines you can not get parts for as they are no longer in buisness makes us look that much harder to find good lines with longevity. It is inevitable that we say no from time to time but our preference is Yes we can! I as a dealer try to stay away from short lines that do not nor can not show a good runnning record. To answer your question, we sell Kuhn and you paid a fair price.

Murf, it all goes back to dollars and cents! They could put in an idle circuit for $? That might not be a nessecity for everyone but it might drive some away as much as it might drive some to it. Kubota's method of feathering the controls makes some of the aftermarket machines operations harder. For a dollar (saved?) people will put up with them. The cylinders turned around would do many things, some might work faster,some slower, some lift more load,some less. We are looking at a new wheel to be built too! There is no one machine built that is perfect for all!

I can only assume you are looking for more than 18" in depth not diameter. We have sold several makes that seem to work on the BX that go deeper.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you on that one. A few years back I had it stuck right in my nose. I had my uncle who is an MD in central CA get me in touch with a farm labour placement service in the hopes of bringing up some Mexican farm labourers, as well as a few for the contracting business if it could be done legally.

When these Mexicans found out that we would feed them, give them a free place to live, AND pay them they almost stampeded the bus terminal. After the first ones arrived they were amazed at the conditions up here, and also that they got Sundays off and we provided a van they could use to go to church if they desired.

At the end of the season we made an offer to two of them to sponsor them if they wanted to emigrate to Canada permanently and we would loan them money to bring their families up too. The one was so awestruck all he do was cry, the other was so excited he forgot how to speak English and I thought he was going to give himself brain damage he was nodding his head so hard and he nearly shook my Dad's hand right off.

All we can do is try to improve our little peice of the planet.

My FEL work is very light stuff...pushing dirt around, pushing a little snow here in Ohio on occasion, and cleaning up around the house in the spring. Sounds like I may just try a FEL since the price of the tractor was $0. I am assuming I can head to my local Kubota dealer and order a loader that will fit my tractor. Actually I am planning on taking in the tractor and have it professionally installed. Does Woods make a loader for this tractor??

Looking forward to it! I will provide an update to everyone on the progress and how I like the setup. Once again, thanks to all for their input. Truly appreciated.

Subframes have been described earlier in this thread and others. They attach to the underside of the tractor near the rear axle and bridge forward on the tractor. They can attach at various points and my require removal of the swinging drawbar on some tractors.

The backhoe then attaches to the subframe rather than the 3PH. This is a fixed Heavy Duty mount that also strengthens the tractor frame.

In most cases, you do not have to remove the subframe to attach other implements or use the 3PH as long as the backhoe is not mounted.

I have a NH tractor and the 3PH lower arms are left in place on my tractor when I mount the backhoe to my subframe. Other tractors and backhoe manufacturers may require you to remove the lower 3PH arms. (not a big job)

Knowing that some Fords and Shibaura tractors shared basic Shibaura engines might help. The engines aren't identical but many of the assemblies might be interchangeable. You'd have to find somebody who really knows what''ll work though.

Depending on what's wrong with the engine, specialty shops can do amazing repairs. Of course the costs also are amazing but then it doesn't take too many NH parts to get amazing either.

I don't if the Ford and Shibaura TX and other mounts on the engine are the same, but there's a chance that a Shibaura engine might be almost a bolt in replacement. Even so, finding a parted out 1510 might be easier than finding a Shibaura. Finding a parted out 1510 still seems like the best bet. I've done web searches looking for tractor salvage yards etc. before. Most places have few compacts but I think I did tumble on several that list some compacts.

The loss of efficiency I mentioned involves things like churning, piston/cylinder contact, swash plate/slipper ring contact and reciprocating motion. There are probably a bunch of other things engineers might mention. I think all these losses increase as pump or motor displacements increase.

In general, losses might be a reason to add gearing to provide low output speed but not require maximum motor displacements. Both gears and variable displacement motors provide increased torque as speed decreases so it's just a question of running a motor in a more efficient range. However, noting these things is not the same as saying that it'd be a good reason to modify this particular tractor. I doubt that efficiency is much of an issue on a small tractor.

I think that everybody who commented always said that there doesn't seem to be a good enough reason to adapt this particular tractor. It should work fine at low speeds as it is. Thanks Murf and Art. I hope the information here is interesting to some people.

Now, I guess if I can see an ATV with a hoe (and I have) then I can see a Toro with a loader. Don't think I'd want to though.

My Kubota is 6 wheel drive! If you're in mud, put duals on the back. Mine never gets stuck. Cost me $500. I wish I had duals on the front. Then it would be 8 wheel drive!

My B-2150 with 13.6 X 16 turfs has rear tire outside sidewall edge to edge of 58 +/- inches. Track tread imprint is less. My Prairie Dog Backhoe, an exact copy of a Wood's 7500, with the stabilizers up do not extend past the track of the rear wheels at the inside attachment point of the stabilizer's hydraulic cylinder. I bet a 2710 and a 2910 with turfs or r4s have a bigger spread than 48 inches. Heck, My bucket is 54 inches wide. IF you miss an obstacle with the bucket, how do you hit the backhoe's stabilizer??? I have never had a problem hitting anything with the backhoe with the stabilzers in the up position flipped pads or not. Not even a close call. If the pads are wider than 58 it makes no difference because the pad feet are nearly 4-5 feet off the ground. You got to work hard to hit something on the pads nearly 5 feet off the ground. Looking at the PD's specs it says 60.6 inches wide with stabilizers in the UP position. I bet that is measured at the top of the pad with the pad flipped in the "street" position.

I put a meter on my charger, the 'no load' voltage is 13.2 volts (although it's supposed to be 14.5v.) and I have left it on (by accident, CRS attack) a battery for two weeks at a time with no problems. The manufacturers stamp say it is only 850ma. output anyway.

My all night comment was meant to reflect the maximum amount of time I would ever leave it on, and then only in very cold weather. At the moment my 'Bota lives in an unheated garage.

As you can tell the grizzly weighs a lot and the sold cast iron frame surround the pick up rolls and blades.
Gizzly makes a magentic jig to set the blades up and I believe that you can remove the springs. Not cheap though and need to commune with someone that has some before I spring for the money.

I found some reviews when I bought mine (3yrs ago) and have not really looked closely since. Top marks went to the Hitachi at the time. I think the things to look at are:
1) Top slides if possible. Mine gets coated with material and could wear over time. Big problem with cement board.
2) Total cut length - some are less than others I like to be able to cut a 8" board on the 45. A lot of siding etc is that wide.
3) The ease of set up and precision.
4) Depth of cut. Will it cut a 4x4 or 4x6.
The Dewalt saw was nice but the reviews said it tended to throw cut material back in you face. The diameter of the blade is larger but the cut on 45 was smaller than my saw the Makita. I also believe it has problems with depth. The saw has been redesigned for the chips etc so I would revisit that saw.
Sears now has a couple of saws, one Craftsman and one Promark (?). The best saw for the money may be the Promark but not the best quality, but ok. The bigest draw back would be odd angles set up.
I like the features on the Hitachi but it is a little more difficult to find. I believe Lowes carries it now, but could only get it mail order before. I have not checked the 45 reach or other dimensions I thought important.
Freud also make one that is low price and low quality. Not the Italian quality that many Italian machined items are.
