It looks like the moths may have subsided somewhat. We have a central vacuum in the house which is like a shop vac with the plumbing in the walls. We have been sucking up moths and every week or so I need to empty out the canister. About half of them are still alive.

On Sunday we got our first centipede in the house. They can also squeeze through about any crack and can force their way under weatherstripping. This one was about four inches long, and they do have a nasty bite. I sucked that guy up in the central vac also.

I think that centipedes eat other bugs, so this guy should have a feast in the canister with all those moths. I just hope that it is not the size of a king snake when I empty it out this weekend.

Doc,

You'd be surprised at where these little tractors can crawl. All you need is good weight distribution, traction, the power to get you up and big balls. (Actually it's not all that uncommon around these parts to see guys on some pretty steep stuff).

I don't travel up very far on that slope. About twenty feet. I back up with the brush wacker up as high as it can go. Don't stop and don't get side ways.

It's a pretty strange feeling looking down the first couple of times you do it. But after a while you figure out what the limits are.

Beats weed whacking by hand.

There are some things to consider with the potential of mowing the twenty acres. I would say to look at the mx5000 Kubota with a loader or the L-4300 as a good buy for your work with the bush-hog 84" twin spindle. I do believe that you should be looking at two differnt units between finished lawn and the back forty.

Tarps aren't too bad, especially if they don't go down to the ground. Special covers are made for some tractors but they are pricey. My 6-month solution (supposedly over one winter) was a 14' x 25' arctic shelter with an all weather cover. That temporary solution has been in place for 5-years so I guess it worked out OK or maybe it says something about me and my priorities.

My tractor does spend some summers unsheltered at our camp and doesn't seem the worse for wear. I just put a juice can over the exhaust, tip up the seat and hold it forward with a bungee cord. To me, having some shelter and lighting for working on the tractor is more important than keeping it out of the weather. I'd go for something that both the tractor and I could get under. I think I'm less weatherproof than most tractors and I also complain about it a lot more.

No experience here but they are a pretty well established name in Europe. There may be a connection between Landini and Buhler in N.A. I'm not sure what happened to the deal or if it would translate into parts and service for a particular tractor.

Try another dealer. Mine has hjad every part/ filter I needed in stock. I had an extra rim/tire in two days and has been great to work with. This "attitide" is presant in some dealers of ALL manufacturs. Finding a good dealer is probably the most important step in chooseing a tractor.

There has been a lot of good information about equipment and materials here. In addition to the information, I think it might be good to contact the nearest fire service. They almost certainly have recommendations for building materials and fire prevention techniques for the area.

They also might make a property inspection and make recommendations. There are some fairly simple storage, clearing and pruning things that will reduce risks. They also could describe the levels of service that can be expected from the responding fire service for the area. There's no need for individuals to try and duplicate what a fire service will do, and likely do far better than any individual can anyway. If it's a volunteer force, you might consider joining it. It'd be educational and a good way to meet new neighbours.

I'd also keep in mind that not every wild fire turns into a crown fire. If one does occur, there's little an individual can do about it other than leave and no amount of planning and equipment will make a lot of difference. I sure wouldn't cut down our trees to cover a risk that's probably in the order of lightning or earthquakes 'cause it sure would mess up the reasons for us being here. I'd guess that far more rural homes are lost due to poor property management, amateur wiring and wood stoves than wild fires anyway, and those are things that something can be done about.

I am interested in getting a loader for a New Holland TC30 and see that Koyker mades one to fit. Can you tell me how they compare to the New Holland 7608? At first glance the cost seems to be a third less $3400 to $ 2400 and also have a higher lift capacity.Thanks.

Just a follow up on the finish of the service. Got everything together and was snugging up the last 10mm cap screw on the HST filter transmission cover and broke the last cap screw off. All of them except one were not tight and felt funny (kinda springy taking them out) I have a suspicion the cap screw were over tightened either at the factory or the dealer. I sure I didn't help things either. I got the broken piece out of the threaded hole and ordered 6 more to replace them all. I didn't tighten them that much, just tried to get them snug. Only one of the screws snugged. The screw are 9 cents a piece.

Our neighborhood association (located in Northern Va.) just purchsed an ISEKI 1610 tractor with bushhog and loader bucket from Corriher Implement Co. in Newton, NC. We could not justify the cost of a new tractor and this company had just what we were looking for at a very reasonable cost.

The people there were very friendly, courteous, patient, and willing to answer any and all questions we had. Myself and another representative of the BFRA traveled over 400 miles (one-way) to deal with these people. The equipment was just as they had stated over the phone. We highly recommend contacting them if you are in the market for a tractor.

I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!

The 2 check valves on top of the hydrostat is where the oil was flowing out of when the engine was running, even an idle. I removed them and replaced the O-Rings and all is well.....so far (knock on wood) Thanks for all who helped!

Thanks for the information. Where did you get your tractor. I have called three different dealers and they are all considerably higher. Even if I had to pay for shipping, it looks like I could save $1000+. The lowest, I have out here for a 7800 is $12593, a loader is $3350, and $845 for a rear cutter....Once again, thanks for the help!

Hay they stomped on my religon first, I hate being wrong, and then I had Panther piss in my cornflakes which probably really upset the natives ! I dont get it maybe I am dumb but I sure as S$%^ am not going to put HDD in my tranny. They can experiment on their own trucks. You sure are right, winning dont mean squat, try getting paid !

Blue still is water, But blue is also kerosine. They are just stamped different. I wound up useing Kerosine cans for fuel because I couldnt find any yellow ones last year.
