You will really appreciate having a hydro for both loader and mowing. The JD loader and midmount mower can be used at the same time, but both are very easy to remove or install so it is unulikely you would leave both attached. You can mount or dismount the loader in 2-3 minutes and the deck takes about 5 minutes on or off. It is much easier if you do it on a concrete pad or garage floor for both loader and deck. You can get a Lift Latch Kit for the 4100 to hold the mower deck in the fully raised position and allow the 3 point to be used. I also use it to just hold up the mower lift linkage when the deck is removed. This provides more ground clearance. Any midmount deck will do a better cutting job on a lawn than in taller grass, but you can still use it in tall grass. It may take 2 or 3 passes to level the tall grass, but it can be done. On the other hand, you may want to consider having both a midmount for finish mowing and a 4 foot rotary cutter (bush hog) for the rough areas. Rotary cutters are relatively inexpensive in comparison to midmount mowers. You might pick up a used 4 foot cutter for $500 or less. A new one might cost $700-800. With regard to rear ballast, I definitely recommend 3 cast weights on each rear wheel per JD specs (leave them on all the time). Calcium chloride is a pain to deal with. It causes rusting, to check inflation pressures you need to park the tractor with the valve stem up, and if the tire is punctured, the calcium will kill the grass. With regard to comparing the hydro on the JD vs the Kubota, notice that the 4100 has the hydro pedals controlled by the right foot and the 2 steering brake pedals controlled by the left. Thus when making a hard turn or braking when backing up to an implement you use both feet. You can't do this on a Kubota that has all brake and hydro pedals on the right. You might check our previous discussion of the subject on 5/28/99. It appears that it depends on the implements you want to use which hitch will be satisfactory.As I said Ive had good luck with the Speeco Quick Hitch with my rotary mover hooked to a Ford 1900. I had to machine down the collars on the lift pin bushing that came with the hitch and modify the top link bracket on my Hico mover, but that was no big deal and now it works fine. Im now modifying a dirt scoop so I can use it too. The lower lift pins used to push the scoop into the pile do not have enough clearance for the hitch. It is necessary to bolt on an extension plate that moves the pins away from the body of the scoop. I dont know how much it will cost to bet the plates made yet but it should be too bad. Also I have recently run across something called a 3PT EASY HITCH ($125) sold by The Stevens Tractor Co. Route 1 Coushatta, Louisiana 71019 (1-800-333-9143). Looks like a slick idea that would require no modification of any implements to get it to work. I might have gotten one if I had seen it sooner.

I agree with pete better to spend more now (if it can be afforded)<br>than later I am looking for a new toy also. <br>I still run a 76 case 446 w/ 3pt hitch but it is slowing down, I am looking to rebuild it for my teenage son to use, then he can leave dads new one alone <br>The Diesels are what im lookin at i feel it will last me the rest of my life if i can get 23 years out of a case with a Onan engine<br>Have fun!!!!!

Just took delivery on a JD 4100 w/hydrostat, turf tires, 60

and DSCV for $14,000 even.. I think they are all MFWD and dual independent PTO.
The dealer was D&G Eqpt. in Mason, Mi. I also got the JD 12 months same as cash deal.
D&G Eqpt. are good, no hassel people to deal with. Other dealers in Mi. wanted
$16,000 for the same setup.

I can't believe you're paying 50 bucks for a dealer to come and pick up your tractor to do warrenty work on a new unit with 25 hrs.I've owned a Kubota since 94,and our dealer will come and pick up the tractor for something as minor as a oil change for no charge or pick-up fee what so ever.Deliver it back,washed,and ready to go.On Deere's behalf, I think they would do the same good service.I guess we're lucky to live in a small community were competition is high for a sale,and service is very good.
