Its not a problem, Jack. It is easy enough to add weight to the blade if you<br>need to do so. At least at 475# you are looking at nice heavy blades. I've <br>always ment to get wheel weights for my rears, but got to confess that so far<br>I just keep bolting more weight onto a succession of heavier and heavier blades.<br>I'm not about to put liquid in my tires, thank you.<br> BTW, since mashing the grass is an issue, you will of course go for as wide<br>of a turf tire as possible to spread out the load. Since your goal is to lighten <br>the front tires by rotating the tractor's weight about the rear tires, then <br>doubling the distance from the rear axle does indeed enable you to use half the<br>weight. <br> On my Yanmar, even with wide turfs of the front the fronts will sink in when<br>there is a load in the bucket. Sure there is a difference. The further from the pivot point that you go,<br>the less force is available. The angle that the cylinder makes with the movable<br>arm is important too....and it changes throughout the lift cycle. But the real<br>differences between brands are much smaller than the creative advertising guys<br>would have you believe. Most any loader that is even roughly matched to a tractor<br>can lift more than you will feel comfortable carrying. The limit is more on the<br>order of: <br>

And if this isn't enough for you, it is is quick and easy to replace
the cylinders with larger (but slower) ones, or on older tractors just re-shim
the bypass valve. Or do both. A local dealer that I know ALWAYS re-shims the
loader bypass valve on EVERY new one that he installs. Every one of his loaders
is capable of running at least 25% over the recommended pressure. Folks sure do fall
in love with his loader tractors, though!

Just got a quote from local dealer. please let me know what you all think. <br>JD 4200, FWD, 9/3 TRANS, R1 $12,600<br>420 loader $2,490<br>Land Pride FDR1572 rear finish $1,690<br>Land Pride RB1572 rear blade $450<br>Dealer told me this would be available in 4-5 wks, but from what I've been reading on this<br>board I'm not sure this is true. Also considering NH TC25. Local dealer qoute w/ loader<br>$14,300. Like the JD for the live PTO and weight but either one would suit my needs

I just went and looked at the Tufline equipment and it looks nice too. It reminds<br>me of the blades I've owned. I started with a $300 dollar 6 footwide light blade <br>and quickly found it inadequate. Too light, narrow, low, weak, and it would<br>only angle. The next one was still 6 feet wide, but a bunch<br>heavier built. It was a stock one off of an old 8N Ford and not only angled, and<br>tilted,but also had a type of slide-the-blade offset which required a couple of<br>wrenches and a lot of spare time.....not to mention some strength. It was not<br>quite strong enough. And not nearly wide enough<br>I began too look around for a really good blade and next tried an 8 foot John<br>Deere. It had no offset, only angle and tilt. But it taught me the value of a<br>properly shaped moldboard. That blade would

bigger and heavier one I had to have it. This one is the one I currently have.
It is called a "BIG RHINO" and is industrial yellow. Lots of cast iron pieces -
This blade is heavy and curved much like the JD moldboard. The width is 8 feet.
It comes with a stand, end plates, and will tilt, angle, and offset easily with
the "pin in another hole" system. My tractor can barely lift it, but it sure
does nice work.
Finally I've come up with a blade that does real work instead of just sort
of picking at the ground. I find that I use it a lot. So much so that I wish I
had gotten it with the hydraulic adjustments. The next blade will have to have
all of the features of this one, and also 3-way hydraulic controls.

Compacts are very popular! Used to be that someone with a 2 acre lot bought a lawn tractor<br>Today the same guy is getting a 25 hp compact.<br>I agree with the posts above. Hire out someone to do the heavy work with backhoe/dozer <br>equipment. A backhoe new runs over 5 grand and isn't the tool of preference<br>to build roads and pull stumps. You might be better off getting something like a JD 4200 or<br>a Kubota 2710 with a loader and 3 point mower that you could add to over time<br>with a pliw, tiller, auger etc. With a rear blade it will do snow work very well.<br>Best to go 4whl drive on these compacts for the extra pulling power.<br>Some rental outfits will deliver the dozer and let you drive them (go by the hour meter for<br>charges). Best of both worlds.<br>As far as digging trenches is concerned, look at renting a trencher instead of a backhoe (depth<br>is generally less but they're faster).<br>For 10 grand you're talking a 20 hp 10 yo 4whl drive compact with loader and 700+ hours

I have 4 acres that I want to keep looking somewhat nice. About 3 of the acres are in natural type grass with some rocks and fairly poor ground. the other acre is in planted grass. I also want to begin some landscaping which will require some dirt and rock movement. My long term needs are shredding the 3 acres and mowing the 1 acre. What kind of equipment would you recommend?

David,<br>You may very well be correct in your comments of alternators ratings.<br>Generators for example usually give rating in MAX, not RMS or Usable power.<br>Being in the Electronics/Electrical field, I have found products to be <br>advertised both ways. generally better quality components are given as RMS<br>Cheaper ones are usually MAX. If you looked at the DC voltage level on an <br>O-Scope,you will find the a reading similar to this:~~~~~~~. A battery by itseft<br>will look like:____________. Lights, heaters, pretty much don't care, Your tractor gauges<br>generally, Have circuitry to Create a true_____line, and are made to allow this.<br>My advise, you don't run your motors at red-line,(hopefully), the same is true<br>for Alternators. Also, you could pull 25-30 Amps for a short time, the battery will make up the <br>difference. <br>Like a water tank, if the drain is more than what you can put back in, you<br>will run out in time. <br>

This is not one of the newer models. It is about 10 years old. Overall it has been a good machine. I have experienced only one major problem - a leaking seal and now this fuel thing which was brought on by letting it get to a low fuel level. The Hydraylics are not as responsive as I would like. Some folks don't like the hand clutch for PTO operation. I don't regret buying it.

<br>If I pull the tractor in the garage forward, I plow in reverse. If I backed the tractor in, I plow going forward. I find it makes very little difference. Where I live it is not uncommon to have to plow 30 or more inches of snow at a time.
