Harvey: Thanks for the comments. Backwards was how I was planning to use the scraper as well. I figure I can shorten up the top-link enough so the scraper would ride on the back if its front cutter and wouldn't sink in the gravel much. Still don't know if the scarifiers would do much to ice. Fortunately we haven't had a repeat of two Decembers ago when there was one freezing rain after another--nothing helped much. I started joking about drilling holes in the drive and practicing ice fishing. We probably agree on two fundamentals of snow removal: Plan where it's going to be put before it starts snowing and don't plow before a rain. I probably like my blower because I don't have to plan--just keep blowing it out into the yard. It even blows slush half-decent. I figure if I plowed, I'd probably get it wrong and would end up with a 5' wide drive. Have to trade the truck in on a Toyota before spring.

I figure the 4100 would really strut itself stuff if a major job were finish mowing in a heavily landscaped yard or generally working in tight places. A larger tractor would get other type jobs done a bit faster. I can't answer the question about pushing down trees, but the question does bring up the subject of tires. The choice of tires is about as important as the size of tractor. Basically, you can't drive on lawns with ag tires, but you can't get good pulling traction with turf tires. Turf tires wouldn't be too good for pushing down trees with any size compact. Compacts tend to be more limited by traction than by power. Larger tractors do have more traction because they are heavier and have larger tires, but some traction can be added to any tractor by adding ballast. Regarding grading with loaders: Much like snow removal, some people have good luck with loaders, but I never got the hang of it. I got a box scraper with hydraulic top-link that I greatly prefer for grading and probably just didn�t develop the knack. I do some types of spreading and compacting with the loader--mostly back-dragging with it. The scraper makes for much more controlled cutting and spreading operations. A loader can't cut and spread at the same time very well, and they can't cut side-grades. A crown can be built on a drive by using a scraper and the 3ph side-leveler. Regarding cutters, I hear that rotary cutters do a surprisingly good job of finish mowing. Maybe somebody will comment, but I think that some types of cutters may be better at producing a mowed �pasture lawn� than others. I believe that a common type with a single tail wheel doesn't produce a very level cut if bumps, dips and hills are present. Anyway, I wouldn't agonize too much over the tractor size. Almost any size tractor is going to be useful. Mostly what happens is that the owner adapts to the tractor. Size just affects the range of jobs the tractor gets. There's always going to be hired out jobs and standalone equipment. The object, though, is to keep a tractor busy, because they're pretty expensive things to have just sitting around. In general, the more implements available, the busier the tractor. The tractor is expensive and implements are cheap. so, buying implements is a pretty good way to increase value of the tractor investment.

How many acres do you plant? Is this how you make a living or is it a second job? What do you plant? With a MF 240 I dont think it would be rice, I see that wheat and sugercane are major crops of Pakistan. Most small farms around me that have MF240 tractors are truck farms. sending their crops to the markets in the local citys and grocerys. They might only plant 4 acres of each crop tomato, potato, corn, turnips, pumpkins. The folks in the city will pay more than locals will for the same thing. I am just curious

Randy, I have never heard of axle problem on 755. The same axle is used on 855, so it should be plenty heavy. Was the axle bearing O.K.? Do you have a backhoe? There is a history of some axle bearing failures on some machines with backhoes. Have your dealer check for dtac solution # 14869 if you think the bearing failure was the cause of axle breakage. There is a heavy duty bearing and axle available for backhoe use.At 8 years old, I seriously doubt that deere will help you out on this. Kenny

Abso-tootly. I use one to irrigate my garden, from Ace pumps, set up for a 540 PTO. Works slicker than a smelt. Only problem I have is I need to filter the intake a little better, as the sprinkler heads tend to clog of with pond scum. Check 'em out at www.acepumps.com

Where are you, Bill? I'll sell you my tiller. LOL In '95, I bought a new Bush Hog RTS40 tiller for my B7100 (40" although the manual says it actually tills 38"). At any rate, it was perfect for the B7100, but now I have a B2710 and would like a tiller that's 14" to 22" wider. However, it still serves the purpose. I had it centered on the B7100 and now have it offset to just cover my right tracks on the B2710. I don't know what they sell for now, but in '95 I paid $1,300 for this one. It's one fine machine. Bush Hog products are a little pricey, but good.

We have a very similar device (same basic item, different maker) as this and use it regularly. To say that it could replace all those items is, well, about as optimistic as saying gas prices, taxes, and inflation are going next week. It is not as good as a pulverizer or scarifiers at breaking up hard-pan, it takes several passes to acomplish the grading of a box blade or even York rake, it will however make a really nice finish, but even then it won't pick the stones and debris out as well as a York rake. The basic problem is it itsn't heavy enough to really bite into the ground. The best use I have ever found for it is grooming horse rings. Best of luck.

Check to make sure you are not dragging a brake. I was going down a hill on a dirt road recently and noted that one rear tire was disturbing the road surface while the other tire wasn't. Sure enough, the brake on the left side was just dragging a little bit. Don't notice it normally, but when on the road it heated up more and started dragging. If there is one spot on your brake that grabs a little earlier, maybe this could give you the surging effect you experience.

Thanks to you both for the helpful comments. Two things that I found out since I posted this message - Kubota recommends Super UDT Hydralic fluid (the stuff in the tractor is not Kubota)and also I stopped by a dealer who ran a Grand L GST which clealy showed that my tractor is well out of spec. The new machine quickly ran through the gear changes with only slight hesitation -very unlike my L3600.
The 4690 bhoe has several leaks (1 on the dipper cylinder seal and another on the fitting feeding fluid in) so I'm hopeful that if these items are fixed, the creeping will be much less pronounced. Do you agree? For some reason I was concentrating on spool valve pass-thru causing the problem and it did not occur to me that leaks could be attributing to the slow movement of the unit downward as well.

I recently purchased the Kubota B 2410 with the Landpride 60" rear discharge mower model FDR1560. It has the pneumatic air filled rubber tires, 18,264 fpm blade tip speed weight is 492 #, deck is 10 gauge steel. It does a nice job and I am completely satisfied with it. As a package deal with tractor and other implements, the dealer charged me $1400.

A couple of other problems that can be heat-sensitive are: Bad spark coil or missing heat-shield. New mufflers are sometimes put on B/S riding mower engines minus the heat shield between the muffler and carb, or with the deflector in the wrong direction. I don't know if that's possible on this tractor, but that will create a vapour lock on B/S engines. The bad coil when it gets hot may be mostly a historic problem (Ford N-series tractors are known for bad coils). Never the less the spark should be fat and blue even when the engine is 'vapour-locked'.

A lot depends on your intended use of the tractor and of course how much the difference is, and if the difference really effects your budget.
My opinion; if it's going to be used for mowing, you can't beat HST, makes it really easy to speed up where the mowing is light or slow down where heavy, or slow down in tight spots. Also, as Tom mentioned it's really nice when using the loader to move forward to back without a clutch. Another advantage to HST, is it's so easy for an inexperenced operator to operate, in case you want your kids to mow the lawn. An advantage to gears is if you need to calibrate for distance traveled, ie; chemical spraying. Jim

JUST PURCHASED A USED B2400 WITH ABOUT 350 HOURS. I AM NEW TO TRACTOR MAINTENANCE BUT WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE ALL NEW FLUIDS AND FILTERS AS A PRECAUTION.
WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND???? ALSO IS A 5'BUSHOG POSSIBLE FOR THIS TRACTOR FOR CUTTING ABOUT 2-5 ACRES WITH A FEW SAPLINGS OF THE 1 TO 1 1/2" SIZE

almost forgot if the dealer will not negotiate with you try this number at your napa store its the original new holland part number e9nn6714aa this number now subs to 86546618. this filter is made by fleetguard but i am not sure what they use for there number. Good Luck!

Not really, I use a soft cab(insulated r-13) I live on the coast so I had a local boat sail maker do it. They make enclosures for fly bridges etc. They used a Sumbrella (sp) brand material. Works great easy to remove and looks factory installed {If they did }.The problem with the hard inclosures for me Too much cutting, couldn't use my FEL and have cab attached, etc. It was a perm install and was $2,000 My soft was $475. I used a canopy ready made (metal) $300.

Attached ar 4 photos of the clutch. You can see the windings are pretty much burnt.
Probably any clutch with 4" oc mounting on a 1" shaft would work.
