Tom Pardon me for even thinking it, but your message seemed to me to add confusion to this issue.
What tractor do you have that the 3pt lift arms attach to the tractor above the axle? All mine have attached below the axle, not above. There are links that are made (used to be for 8N fords at least) that are solid, flat steel and link the ends of the flat drawbar (that Wannabe has) between the ends attached to the lift arms and convene at the top arm connection at the tractor (i.e. the lift arm is not used). This restricts the 3pt so it cannot lift, fixes the drawbar fro lateral movement, and while being farther back than the regular drawbar you describe, is not an unsafe feature for pulling. Wannabe still hasn't let us in on the secret of what type of spreader he is referring to, or what kind of tractor he has. We can't be of much direct help if he wants to keep his secrets.

Hello,<br>I had an interesting find yesterday,I was at my local John Deere dealership yesterday and was talking with a salesman.He wanted to show me a new line of tractors he was going to carry called "Millennium tractors" the smallers tractors have a Kubota engine and the larger ones had John Deere engines.He told me a lot of people came in there and thought the John Deere tractors were too high and he said they would go down the road to the local Kubota dealership,(A lot of people were dollar shopping instead of brand shopping)this was a nice looking tractor,it was red in color,I told him it looked like an International,he did not like my joke.My biggest gripe would me they used a lot of metal where JD used strong plastic(with plastic no dents or rusty scratches).The tractor had a lot of features that you would have to purchase as extra add ons through JD,a few I can remember was a nice canopy that was easy to remove(no bolts) a horn,mirrors,rear work light.He just had one they were putting together,that he wanted to get out to the fairs.<br>Anyone else heard of these?

Bruce, that machine is part of a very popular series of machines (3xxx and 4xxx)that Ford produced for decades, we have 3 members of that 'family' on our working farm, a 3600 with a zillion hours on it, a Ford backhoe (I think an early 555) which used a 3xxx as the basis, and a Ford forklift which is just a 3600 (gas) with a reverse facing operators station and a forklift mast where the 3 pth would be. These are (except the gas) very straight forward 3 or 4 cyl. diesels (the 3xxx were 3 jugs, the 4xxx were 4 cyl. engines) they are easy to fix or maintain, parts a VERY easy to get, and almost every farm mechanic (and farmer) is familiar with them. They are usually a good bargain because they are too small for most field work, but too large to be a replacement for a 'modern' compact. Best of luck.

David, we use a very low-tech approach to this problem in the golf-course industry, no chemicals. Either a propane torch (a big one, 200,000+ btu) or VERY hot water. Probably the easiest for someone with no experience is the hot water. Take a short piece of plastic pipe about 6"d. x 4"l. (a 6" coupler works great), set it over the stem of the plant and press down into the soil lightly, then pour in about a cup of water, as hot as you can manage. The scalding water kills the feeder roots and in turn the plant, but will cool off before it can damage anything else. Once you have cleared everything else out you will either have to manually keep the area clean or plant some other ground cover to keep it out. Best of luck.

John, I used my loader last winter in the Adirondacks of NY and had no problem, just took a little longer. I had posted pictures earlier this year with the 10 foot high snowbanks everywhere. We got 6-7 feet of snow in March alone.

swamfox4�- I bought a B7500 about 6 months ago and I've had so much trouble with the "folding" ROPS that I finally quit trying. This weekend I'll be putting the finishing touches on my shed that I built with a 9 foot high door because I couldn't get the tractor into the garage without a significant amount of torture. It's my only complaint about the tractor that I otherwise couldn't be happier with. Maybe it's just me or my specific tractor, but I'd try folding and unfolding the ROPS on the tractor you plan to put in the garage before you bring it home. Best of luck.

Don't know the tractor, so I'm not much help. I guess replacing a seal isn't considered to be a 'repair' because my Ford repair manual doesn't give a procedure either. I'd expect that I could get enough guidance from my dealer. The service department will answer questions like that for me. I suspect the job isn't exactly easy. It could be easy if the end of the pinion shaft was splined and fit into the drive shaft, u-joint flange etc., and if the drive shaft end of the pinion shaft can be removed. In such a case, the seal probably in under a snap ring and maybe an o-ring. If a bearing cap secures the shaft, the cap could be removed and the seal replaced straight away. However, I doubt things are so easy. More likely, a splined end of a pinion shaft can't be exposed and there is no bearing cap. The center section would have to be removed and the pinion shaft disassembled. Disassembly would require pulling the axles. Reassembly would require adjusting pinion pre-load and backlash. These are probably best and worst case scenarios. If it's the worst case scenario, I'll note that a lot of oil could be put into the front axle before it would be worth the trouble of replacing the seal.

That size of tractor is fine on a thousand acres if all you want to do is mow a big yard and maintain a trail going through the property, collect the occasional boulder for landscaping and such. Dont discourage the fellow, let him buy his dream and allow his own desires afterward dictate his machinery collection. Keith, I just spent Memorial Day at a friend's Grandma's farm near Grand Haven Mi. It was an 80a. parcel, but orginally her grandpa had around half a section and was one of the first of many tree nurseries that dot that area.
The 5 bedroom farmhouse and outbuildings are post card perfect, but not for sale. The area is building up and land like that probably starts at 300k. North of that and east of Mears is an area that I like and acreage should be more reasonably priced. The plat book idea is noteworthy but I would prefer the less aggressive approach of dropping a letter to the owners instead of knocking on doors.
"Statewide" real estate has regional offices in Michigan which print listing books that are informative when I am curious of prices in a certain area.
A few tips I would give are:
Avoid south and east side of dirt roads (dust).
Make sure you own mineral rights!
Old Farmhouses may have old septic systems which could be a flush away from failing.
Avoid underground fuel storage tanks (possibility on a real farm)
Inquire about local zoning and building ordnances before you buy.

The 35/40/45's all have a brace that ties the front and the rear of the tractor together when a loader is installed. There is one brace on each side made from I believe 1/2" plate steel that is about 6 inches wide. Off the top of my head I don't recall how the loader itself is attached to the tractor.

I have a 4100 with 60" belly mower. No problem cutting with it. It works well in cutting everything from light brush to lawn grass.

I've just been offered a MF 1240, 4WD, 16 speed, 28 HP, Rear PTO, 600 hrs for $12,000. The following pieces of equipment are included in the deal: bushhog, tiller, cultivator, boom pole, aerator, auger, ridge disk, 7' mowing sickle, harrow, 6' scrape blade, rake, corn planter, cutaway harrow, scoop pan, turning plow, and a 6'x12' trailer. Is this a good deal?

Lars I would opt for a compact tractor that you could tow with you vehicle and I would look in the 40HP range. With that size tractor your options for implements will be greatly expanded espically if you would want to rent. I opted for a ATI quick connect and remote hyd on my FEL and I'm able to use any skid steer implement. Also that HP range tractor will be able to run a hoe like a Woods 9000 which will give you a comfortable 7 ft digging depth.

The term "lateral float" used by JD is somewhat misleading. The vertical slots in the lift links of the 3 PH actually provide "torsional or rotational float" of the implement with respect to the tractor. This is to allow the implement to follow ground contours independent of the roll of the tractor. Lateral motion of the hitch with respect to the tractor is really controlled by the adjustable check chains (or on some tractors there are adjustable bars). When using a box blade or utility blade, I get the best results with the "lateral float" enabled.

I probably neglected to mention that years ago I made up a set of brackets that move my seat back about an inch, up about half an inch, and change the tilt by a few degrees. I figure that the original seating positon provided by the manufacturer is just an estimate in need of fine tuning.

I have just resently become familiar with the Kioti. The closest dealer is about 70 miles away, but I go in that direction at least twice a month. I stopped a coulpe of weeks ago after hours and look from outside the fence. Most of the time when I go past it is after hours and there closed. The other day it was eairly in the day so I stopped and talked to them. I have been wanting to get a tractor for some time. Now for my main concern, parts avalability. I'm not to concerend that the nearest dealer for service is 70 miles away. But I am concerend with the avalabilty of parts, has anyone had any problem with parts avalability. Now for a coment on pricing. My dealer quoted my a selling price of $18,500 for a LK3504 with loader. He also quoted me a price of $ 12,800 for the LB1914. He told me what the SRP's were, they were somewhat higher than his selling prices. After doing some searching I have found that his selling prices seem to be higher than what most of you have been paying for the same or similer unit. I'm looking to buy a unit to be used in construction, moving mostly dirt and rock. I will probably also get the back hoe attachment. I like the idea of the LK1914 due to its size. Being small and compact I think it could get into a lot of smaller areas that a larger unit or full size back hoe could not get into. However I'm concerned with it's weight, it is a little on the little side and I've used some light weight units before and most of them just don't cut it. I'd like to hear for people who use theres for similer uses. I don't want to spend all this money and find out three or four years from now that I'm wearing the unit out because it's to small. I would rather get a larger unit to get that longer life expectancy.
