The heavy bucket has a round reinforcment across the top of the bucket to keep if stiff. My friend has the light duty and is all bent up. well worth the couple of extra dollars.

Anyone know of a source for new seats for JD 950 (other than the JD dealer)? I have found several web sites that offer JD seats, but not for the 950 or other older compact series.

Any idea what filters work on a 7275? Is the engine oil the same? what about the tranny hydraulic filter and the separate implement hydraulic filter (they are diff sized)

I also forgot to mention that I noticed a small grinding/wear mark on my connecting rod for the steering. It doesn't appear that anything could hit this, but something has been grinding on it. The spot is about 3/8" wide and 1/8" deep.

I haven't read the entire thread here, but I do know the higher the compression the more efficient the engine. (Spend a few months in a Thermodynamics class) This is why Diesels are usually more fuel efficient. For performance gasoline racing engines one of the key factors is always increasing the compression. Nascar Stock Cars at one time were running as high as 17 to 1 compression for this reason. But at these high compression levels incresed octance fuel is required to prevent untimely detonation or spark knock (its not uncommon to see 100+ octane in racing fuel). I believe I read an earlier post that stated most diesels are 22 to 1, while cars are running at around 8 to 1. In recent years car manufactures have been slowly working on ways to increase this compression without casuing detonation. You'll notice that several new cars are getting close to 10 to 1 now. This is due to advancement in aluminum cyl heads and fuel injection. Im getting way off base here so I'll quit typing

Interesting discussion, a couple years ago I was looking at the New Holland TC25 and TC29 Compacts and noticed that they were the exact same engine. Same Bore and Stroke virtually identical except the 29 was rated at 2800 RPM and the 25 was rated at 2600 RPM. I called New Holland on this and they actually admitted the only differences between the two tractors were fuel delivery settings. Of course they wouldn't tell me how to set the 25 to make it a 29, but it sure is a cheap way for them to sell a compact for $800 more than another tractor that is identical. Gotta love them Marketing guys.

I run a 6' behind my JD 950 with 27 PTO hp. It cuts foot high grass with no problem running in high range and 2nd gear. However, if I get into 2' grass or higher, it does start straining the tractor. I can usually run high range and 1st gear, but I have had to go down to low range and sometimes 3rd gear if it is too high. Since most of what I mow is kept fairly short, this is not generally a problem. I haven't tried cutting brush. It would probably do it if I went real slow.

Nels Just off the top... try new plugs. I'm ASSUMING it has 2 cylinders at least switch the plugs side to side.

If you consider the BX series to the JD4200, look at Kubota B7500. I love mine and it's 60" belly mower, which is suspended. Suspend rides with the tractors frame where if they are on wheels that's where they roll. If really level either will do great, if you have some rolls the suspended will do better.

You should have no problem with the 60" mower on the 4100. I bought a 54" just because of the significant cost difference. But the 54" handles just about anything I've tried to mow. I can't imagine another 6" of blades really making that much difference. In retrospect, I should have gone with the 60" deck, because it is actually easier to trim up close to things with (farther out from the wheels).

i just purchased a 95 jd 870 4wd and it has been pre-plumbed for front hyd. i want to add a front end loader and am wondering what type is the best in your opinions for this machine. i will be using it mostly to move fill dirt/mulch/rock/etc. also anyone know any web sites for parts for jd - filters/oils/seat/tires/etc. thank you

OK Jennifer, here we go. A GF1800, looks like 2WD, 170 hours, asking $6500 from a dealer. With a picture. See link below. It has a 54 inch deck rather than the 60 inch, but that difference isn't worth thousands. A tow-behind sweeper is $150-300 new, depending on the size and a tow-behind cart is in the same ballpark, depending on size and quality. So under best of circumstances the cart and sweeper are worth maybe $500 new. Given this data, I think a reasonable price might be in the $6000-7500 range considering it is a private sale. At least from a dealer, you can negotiate a 30-day or a 50/50 warranty or something in case there is a problem with the machine.

Here in the South we dont get alot of snow, But my cousins in Vermont had a 1/4 mile drive way and lots of it. He liked to use his loader to move the snow mostly but wanted to cut a wider path and still be able to pile it. The next time he visited i cut the side out of a large diameter pipe made a clamp on mount the clamped to his bucket then made it angleable. He still uses it today. I think the total cost was 45 dollars for bolts and the section of pipe.

I just purchased a used model 7 backhoe from Clatsop Power Equipment in Astoria Oregon. The John Deere dealer, Fred, has one more for $3000. Each backhoe is about 6 years old and have been used as rentals. The condition is very good cosmetically and functionally. Fred always services his equipment very well. He also has two 1997 John Deere model 955's for sale for $12000 each. These have about 1200 hours each on the hour meters. I didn't buy one because I bought a used 855 from him about 3 years ago (with 1500 hours) and it is still working perfectly. Fred can be reached at 800-220-0792 or 503-325-0792.

EJ: Paul has more information on the company than I do. I'm not sure there was any literature that came along with the blower. The blower was in my original purchase package that my dealer put together. In general, I think it's a good idea for owners to find a dealer they like and stick close to what the dealer recommends. Dealers are generally in a better position than owners to keep up with what's available and how different models perform in the field. In addition, dealers have a stake in sales that were based on their recommendations. If something goes wrong, a dealer has an interest in setting it right. You might talk to dealers and indicate the size of your blower budget. They should come up with a recommendation, and it may well be Meteor. There are probably other similar manufacturers. I paid around $1600CAN for my 5' with hydraulic chute several years ago. Guess you could ask about Meteor if higher prices are quoted. On the other hand, if you've got a bigger budget, a look/see at high-end blowers might be good.
