No suggestions here, just a memory. Back around 1975 or so, I picked up walnuts (by hand) and sold them to buy my first rifle, a Winchester 9422 for squirrels. At that time, they were buying them for 5 cents a pound, green, after being hulled.

Tom and Murf,

Have hydraulics working normally now. Found filter to be plugged. There were pieces of what looked to be rubber and cloth in it. I had just blown a hose on the hoe a few days prior, that could be what it was. I tested the pressure and found I have 2350 psi. I ran the mower today as well and observed no loss in hydraulics after 4 hours.

Tom FYI, in the trouble shooting section it said one possible problem could arise from the adjustment on the control lever for the 3PH. I don't know if you have a single lever or the dual control with the draft lever. If it is a single lever, there is a notch at the top of the control. If you bring your control lever against (not in) the notch, you should not hear the pressure relieve. If you do you have to adjust the lever until the relief valve stops (just stops) lifting. I have also figured out exactly how the priority valve works. If there is no pressure to open it, you get nothing beyond it, only power steering. This has been an (expensive) learning experience. The high pressure valve was not cheap (ate up all my mowing profits).

Tannenwald I agree. NEVER GOT A "SAFTEY NOTICE" FROM CHRYSLER OR H-D WHERE THEY INFORMED ME OF A PROBLEM THEN SENT THE PARTS AND TOLD ME TO PUT THEM ON. They all say RECALL! Well I experienced a real bad cracking sound while using my 410 Loader to it's full potential on Friday of last week. I then crawled under the tractor and I inspected the loader mounts and found 3 loose bolts. At the same time I developed an oil leak between the clutch mounting and engine block. I tightened the bolts the bolts to the manuals recommended torque. The loader still makes the cracking sounds under load. The more I use it the more the oil leaks. Saturday the package arrived from Deere with the safety latch for the loader. Today the service rep came on a field call and the first question asked was if I had received the safetly latch package from Deere. He seemed extremely concerned. I ordered the tractor in June it was delivered July 27 and the letter on the safety latch is dated May 30th. So why didn't Deere have their dealers install it before delivery. Well tomorrow the 4100 makes a trailer trip back to the dealer to be fully diagnosed. The techs concern was if I would have it back in time for snow removal duty. I asked if what I was doing was too much for its intented use and the rep said "You probably used it harder than most but thats what they're made for".

Duane, I can't speak for the bucket on the B7500, but I have had a JD 970 TLB for over 10 years and use the bucket for digging/pushing/moving dirt, gravel, mulch. etc...

When it comes time to remove a tree I break out my Husqvarna 266, cut it down leaving 4-5' of stump, and remove the stump with the Backhoe...I might be missing something, but I would never even consider pushing over a tree of any size with my machine...it is to valuable for the things it was made to do...I must admit, the bucket has taken it's share of dents due to pushing boulders on occassion, but I think it's best to leave the tree removal to the saw...

BTW, congrats on the B7500, I am sure it will do many things in the dirt in minutes that would take DAYS by hand...MOJ

Mark. Your source of information is highly questionable.
How could windshield washer fluid be corrosive and/or explosive if it is used on the windshield of a car???
It does not weigh as much as calcium chloride. Other than that, it works great as added cheap weight in tractor tires. Calcium chloride is more expensive, not easy to do it yourself, and is quite corrosive; although not too bad if kept in the tire (no leaks) and if the tire is filled above the rim so no air gets to the steel rim, assuming there is no tube. But, check it out, so you feel comfortable with your decision.

Dear Mark, BRADCO is a division of Attachment Technologies Incorporated and they do indeed manufacture high end backhoes. There is no such model number in the BRADCO/McMillen line as a 7500, rather this is Woods Manufacturing's Groundbreaker 7500, 7.5ft backhoe attachment. There is no comparison between the closest BRADCO model, the 408 (8ft), and the Woods 7500. The BRADCO has superior crowd and bucket force when compared to the Woods. The BRADCO also has a better hydraulic system and heavier gauge steel with all major stress points heavily reinforced. Where the Woods uses its open and vulnerable chain swing mechanisim to provide boom swing, BRADCO provides two robust hydraulic cylinders. What is better for you? Hard to say, however I will tell you that I have the Cub Cadet early model 407 hoe with sub-frame on my 7275 and I've just dug out my 181st stump. BIG STUMPS (24 inch caliper to 36 inch being my biggest) for a small machine. The little Woods, equivalent to today's 7500 Groundbreaker, just keeps on ticking. I use the 18 inch bucket with side cutting plates kept sharp to cut roots. Don't expect it to be an excavator! If you dig a four sided box around the stump, undermining it as much as possible, you can then spin it off of its soil base like a top. Bucket force and patience are the keys to success, try periodically to move the stump, if it doesn't go, undercut some more until it does. My Woods digs in every type of soil and has just enough boom up force to dig out some good size (3 foot) diameter heavy rocks. Regretably, in full time landscaping use the Woods requires mucho maintenance. My advice is; how much money do you have and how serious are you about the work you'll be doing? When my Woods reaches the end of its productive life it will be replaced with a BRADCO only because for me time is money! But if you only need an occasional stump or trench, certainly you could do much worse than the Woods. One last thing about Woods, they REALLY STAND BEHIND their products, they've always answered my questions and have gone to lengths to satisfy me. That in itself is saying a lot in today's age of disposable business relationships. If you have any other questions, just E-mail me, I'll be glad to help.

Dana, I'm not sure just how far south you are, but up here in the Great White North, we only open a 2" wide, 6" deep trench for sprinkler lines, since unless they are deeper than 4' they have to be blown empty in fall or they will freeze and burst. This can be done easily with many simple arrangements on your compact, in fact, many more than I'm sure you would like to see listed here.... Best of luck.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like something is bent in the loader frame and/or mount to the tractor. The cylinders will tend to equalize since they are on the same hydraulic circuit. That is why it's OK at the extremes. Most loaders have some sort of torque tube connecting the two arms and that's really all that keeps the arms even. Have someone slowly raise the loader to the stops while you CAREFULLY watch for flexing. It will likely flex when one arm hits the stop until the other one catches up. Wherever it flexes is probably the area that is bent. Not sure how to fix, perhaps the dealer or a frame shop? Hope this helps, Rob.

Thought I'd share my first impressions for those still tractor shopping...I chose the 790 for value and I've always been fond of Green tractors. Never owned anything bigger than my Craftsman lawn tractor previously but I did use a friends' Kubota years ago. Both my wife and I prefer manual transmission vehicles, so the GST was a natural for us. I got the tractor with R-1s, loader, 513 cutter and mid-PTO for the future. First thing I did was put a tow hook on the bucket (very handy). I've since cut the weeds on 7 of our 10 acres and borrowed a 7 1/2 foot disc to smooth out the land. All has gone well so far. Mower ate some rocks and other rocks broke a couple of disc blades (it is very old and rusty). Picked up five loader buckets full of rocks. I've mastered turning brakes and even had to use the diff lock while discing. I was concerned about the TPH lift capacity, but it's been fine even with this large disc. I'm looking forward to putting in a culvert and some tree planting in the near future, as well as more rock picking. Thanks to all the other members who helped with my decision. Rob

I tried to get another NH price on Saturday but arrived 15 minutes after they closed. I did get to look at some NHs and Kubotas side by side and then some Kubotas and JDs side by side. The Kubota 2910 is much smaller than either the 4300 or the TC33D. The L3010 was more matching in size. Any thoughts on how the L3010 compares to the 4300/TC33D? The Kubota web page seems to be light on specs when it comes to loader/3PH lift capacity. I plan to go to the same two dealers when they're open next weekend and get some prices.

I also have a JD790, and do not think I would want anything over 1000 pounds hanging on the rear, wouldn't be able to keep the front end on the ground. I have used a boom to pick up several desiel engines weighting in around a 1000 pounds and had to have the loader bucket full of cinder blocks to keep it on the ground. Look around, there are not many implements for cat 1 tractors that that heavy, the mower is about the largest.

I have an opportunity to purchase a JD 850, 2WD 1980 tractor with 354 hrs for $5500. It
is currently running on only 1 cylinder but the seller will fix this before
selling it to me. This tractor has been stored out in the rain and is not the
prettiest around. It comes with a tiller, disc and 2 blades (all pretty
rusted)Any thoughts on what it is worth and whether this is a fair price?

I work for a dealer of both Woods & Bush Hog. Every time I see a cutter question, I think "why do they call them ALL Bush Hogs?". I wouldn't own a Woods cutter, but that's just my $0.02. Price out common repair parts such as blades & blade hardware, include that info in your decision. A 'stump jumper may be optional equip on the Woods, don't buy one without it. The new series of Squealers (3 digit #'s) are quite a bit stouter than the old series.

find a dealer who handles titan wheels. i saved app 20%. i put a set of 19.5L x 24 Turf and Fields on my 970. traction up slopes is just as good as the 13.6 x 28 that i replaced. traction in mud is not as good as R1's. i had to fool a bit with front tire sizes as i have MFWD. the ratios for the 950 is 1.750.

I have used a stand alone splitter on and off for 15 years purchased from Northern Tool to split about 40-50 cords of wood and it does a great job and is still running strong...24" x 4" cylinder, 5 HP engine (still goes for about $900)... Am also considering getting a 3PH splitter as the stand-alone belongs to my dad and a bit hard to get a hold of when I need it.

I have a JD 870 and think it has enough hydro capacity...my only concern is that the Northern splitter has a 2 stage pump which basically doubles splitting force when splitting a piece of tough wood which seems to really help at times when it kicks in...the JD hydro is only "single stage" and I am a bit concerned as to what will happen when it gets over-loaded by a pice of tough wood. I always try to not overload the Northern splitter, but every now and then can see the advantage of the 2 stage pump when it 'down shifts'.

Was thinking that maybe next time I get a hold of the splitter I can 'splice it in' to my aux hydro on the JD and see how it performs. Another concern I have is the hydro on the splitter used 1/2" hoses/fittings vs 3/8" fittings on the JD...Seems the JD will somewhat restruct throughput to the splitter since I would have to adapt the hoses between the 2 parts of the system (3/8" to 1/2").

I believe that by the time I buy a valve/hoses/quick connects that the cost for the 3ph splitters is about $550 vs $900 for the standalone...not a bad price difference for a turn-key splitter with engine ready to go vs one I need to plumb into the JD.

Hi,
I have the opportunity to buy an '84 Ford 1210, not sure of a price. The tractor is kinda beat up as it was used for cleaning out manure from a cow barn and mowing grass with a rear finishing mower. There are agricultural tires on it since it was used as a loader, and i was also wondering if you can get turf tires for it? It has HST transmission, and im not sure if its in running condition. Would it be worth it to buy it and overhaul/restore it for use with a belly or rear finishing mower? Also are the parts for it widely avaliable at New Holland dealers or are they hard to get? It is the same as the one in the picture below but in worse condition. Thanks for the help.
