There is a kit you can buy from JD called a "mower locking latch" which will let you lock the mower deck up and still use the 3pt. I just installed this kit and it is very useful and well worth the $70 I paid for it. If anyone wants to know the parts # then post a message or e-mail me and I will find the info. This little accessory is so useful that it really should come as standard equipment with the mower deck.

Does anyone have the information on the new Case tractors that are coming out. I realize they are basically Red boomers but I was wondering about the pricing structure, specials, etc. I figured since this is their grand entry into the compact market, other than the cub line, their might be some special promotions. Interested in buying a Yanmar2000..was told that it is a later 80s model..It is in very good condition will 870 hrs...asking $4200 is this a fair price.. Also would like to know abotu any problems that this model may have and what to look for in a good used tractor...Any info would be great..also are paarts for this tractor available and with what other products are they interchangable with????????

I'm considering a 1200 Series tractor and could use some information. The attraction to me about these models is their small size. I won't do much mowing because 4 of my 5 acres is wooded. I'll be clearing snow, hopefully grading or leveling some soil with either a York rake or a small box blade and mowing underbrush in the woods which is mostly small saplings. Do the hydro drive systems wear out as these machines age resulting in a costly overhaul? Will I need power steering to manuever around trees? If so, which models offered power steering (e.g., 1215, 1220)? Is this model too small for a loader?

Generally front mounted augar type snowblowers are powered by the mid PTO. JD offeres a 47 and 59 inch snowblower of this type.

When checking starter trigger circuit try this. Start at ignition switch with a test light across the bat and start terminals. Light should be on if you have a hot at bat and continuity from start term to solenoid. If it not on then you have either no B+ at key switch or an open between key and solenoid. If light is on, when you hit the start position the light should go off complete. If it does not, then you have an open in the key switch. If it goes dim, but not off, then you have high resistance in key switch. To find opens between key switch and solenoid hook wire end of test light to B+ and begin probe at solenoid working towards key switch, light should come on at each test point, where it stops coming on is where the open is.

Jeff, I just bought a 4700 4wd,hst,folding ROPS and R-4's for $22,200. but I also bought numerous pieces of other equipment. I ordered it with all the new updated designs of the problems JD was having. You are correct, the 4500 does not come with the hst tranny, hst is the way to go anyway (IMHO). I think anything built after April 2000 has most of the new designs. If you want any other info. just e-mail me. David

Another thing to consider besides viscosity in multi-weights is carbon deposits above the top ring. The new multi-weights with the CG-4/SH rating have to reduce upper piston carbon deposits by about half. This gets important as the top ring in the new diesel engines gets closer to the top of the piston. The straight weights that I have seen don't meet the CG-4 spec. Also the new oils are supposed to absorb more contaminents , put them in the oil pan and keep them there for proper disposal when changing oil. My $.02. Gary D.

Pronovost is one of the better snowblowers on the market. They have been in buisness for years and build some very detailed blowers. When and if you need parts later they have been good. There are many small fab shops that have built many types of machinery but unfortunatly many of them have past on to different things leaving no backup for owners of there machines. Good Luck.

Carlton, go to a Kubota dealer and look at the Grand L series if you want a hydrostatic transmission (which I'd hate to be without) or the M series if you want a bigger tractor with gears or power shift. You might also start by just looking at the specs on the different ones at Kubota's own web site. Try the link below.

I checked out that discussion and it sounds very much like what is happening to me. Before spending a lot of money, I am going to take the two boxes apart again and use some emery on them. If something is sticking open when it shouldn't that will hopefully solve the problem. It is getting worse. Today I couldn't even pick up a bucket of dry dirt. It may be time to change the filter again. Unfortunately, everything on these tractors are made of gold, at least they cost like they are.

Hi Mark. Yes, I have considered putting fluid in the tires, but I do not think that alone will solve my problem. This 950 John Deere placed a 1952 Harry Ferguson TO-30 with ag tires that handled the hills much better. I do not mind buying the tires, its those rims and wheels that have stopped me. They aren't just painted gold, apparently the are made of the stuff. Roy

I cleared snow last winter using a 60" 3ph blower on a 24hp 4wd tractor. The tractor has turf tires and no chains. The drive is gravel, but there was a lot of freezing rain during December, and several inches of glaze ice lasted most of the winter on parts of the drive.

I could have used more traction for pushing and stacking snow with the loader, but the traction was plenty for blowing. I could have used a little more steering in places, but then, I didn't even have to resort to brake steering.

Here it is that time of year again, and I'm starting to think about chains. I didn't get around to it last winter and maybe I won't this year either. It really was OK last year without chains. Well, there weren't many heavy snow falls last year either.
