Who knows what this is all about. You can certainly let your imagination run wild and dream up all sorts of sordid things. I agree with Mike S. that there was certainly no harm done by Scotty's efforts to gather information and there were no new revelations that came out. I really don't care if I can talk with John Deere or not as long as I can get resolution to any problem I might have. I guess this goes back to what has been said here many times, you need to shop for the dealer as hard as you shop for the tractor regardless of brand.

Your price appears to be a little high even if that includes sales tax. I paid $19,600 for a JD 4300 w/430 loader, foldable ROPS, R4 tires, canopy, 5' brush hog, including 5.5% sales tax in March. THere may have been a price increase since then. The tractor already had the new axle and I haven't found any other problems though JD did issue a safety latch for the loader that pins on the front of the frame and prevents the loader from coming off accidently. I think ther were only certain serial numbers impacted by the loader problem, though. You might price a hydraulic top link. I had one installed after I bought the tractor and highly recommend it as a time and work saver. I have been amazed at the amount of work the tractor can do and I use it for about what you described. Gentlemen,

Today I was trying to use my log splitter which runs off the tractor hydraulics. There was no power, it would not split anything, even stuff I could split with a p-tunk. The oil must be by-passing somewhere. Based on what Murf said, I would presume it to be through the PV valve. I opened the valve on the 3PH all the way, but that made no difference. Would replacing the O-ring on the valve solve the problem? The valve, spring and shims all look to be OK, the O-ring, though, I do not think is the right size. My manual does not go into any great detail on how to adjust or set this valve either. By the way, I have two boxes the oil travels through before going to the loader, remote hookup, or 3PH. One is called a diverter box and this is where I think the PV valve is located. The other looks like it only distributes to the power steering and to the diverter box.

Any more ideas?

<br>I am interested in purchasing a snowblower for my B-2100. I found a nice unit made by a company in Canada called Pronovost. Has anyone out there used one or knows anything about them? They seem well made and the price is not bad about $1200 plus tax for a 64 inch wide model. Any comments would be appreciated.

Have you considered loading your rear tires for extra weight/traction? It might be a cheaper way to go as I recently replaced one of my rear bar tires on my 950 to the tune of $250 + $50 for the intertube. Good Luck on the project. Regards Mark

got a quote for a 790 and wanted to get the "smaller" ag tires so i could get chains on them without taking the fenders off. when i went to order, the dealer told me that JD no longer offers the tractor with the "smaller diameter" ag tires (evidently not enough people were ordering them). anyone know if this is the case? we live in the hills of western maryland and i have trouble getting my old IH up (and down) the lane plowing snow without chains. dealer said i could run chains on just the front with no damage to the driveline. would appreciate any knowledge about this as i know about nothing about these 4wd compacts. if anyone is running a 790 with a front mount 59 inch JD blower would appreciate any comments.

Ernie, personally I don't see a thing wrong with what you're doing; I just prefer the 15W-40 for year round so I don't have to worry about climate changes or which oil to use when. I buy my tractor diesel by the 55 gallon barrel, and since it sometimes lasts a few months, I just always dump a pint of Power Service fuel treatment in each barrel and so far that's the only additive I've used. But one of my brothers used to own a couple of 18-wheelers in Alaska (one Cummins powered and one Caterpillar) and he also drove several others and he's mentioned that he periodically dumped a pint of ATF in a fuel tank. He's back in Texas now and has a 200 hp Cat in a little GMC truck and I don't know whether he's still doing that or not.

Barry, when I bought my Kubota, I could have gotten a genuine Kubota canopy with it for $395 (some kind of plastic or composition material) and I'm sure it was probably pretty good, but instead the dealer installed an insulated steel canopy, painted to match the tractor, for $295 (and I like it a lot better). I don't know much about the company that made it, but it was the Wells Ag Company in Elm Mott, Texas.

When I let off the pedal on my 4300 quickly the hydro will grab and stop the tractor quickly like the jerking you describe. If I let off the pedal slowly it will ease to a stop. This seems to be normal operation to me. I don't know if that helps with your hydro jerking problem. You should be able to pull, push and dig pretty well. I have yet to pick too big of a job for ours.

I have a Deere 4200 Hydro... My pedal was doing the same thing. Turned out.. the pedal was rubbing the rubber floor mat in the floor/pedal hole (hole the pedal comes through in the floor). Adjusted/moved the pedal forward a little and it took care of the problem...

Different tractor... maybe this will help anyway...

I am looking for a 3 pt finish mower to go on my John Deere 4wd 950. I have been looking around. I am looking at the 7 foot rear discharge Woods, the 7 foot rear discharge Landpride. I have ran across a seller of an Italian Mower by the name of Caroni. Can anyone tell me about the reliability and the performance of any of these mowers. I have heard the rear discharge land pride is having lower bearing problems and the company is working on a fix. The Caroni Saleman says they are as good or better than a Woods ???? Anyone who has used a Woods and a Caroni who could tell me how the Caroni performs ????? There seems to be about a 25 % price difference on the same size of Caroni as compared to the Woods. Ken, I know they hold their value well, but I bought a new B7100HSD with the B1630C front end loader (no blade) in July 1995 for $10,850, and the dealer bought it back for $8,000 in August 1999 with nearly 500 hours on it (I don't know how much he sold it for). They're good little tractors, though.

I got a better price than the last price I had on a TC33D with 7308 loader. This one is from a dealer 45 miles away of $17845 which is 595 better than local dealer. Has anyone heard of magnesum chloride in tires this dealer said it is a lot less corrosive on the rims and you don't need tubes. Also this tractor comes with block heater and R4 tires.I think it is a very good price in my area of Wisconsin. Any comment would be helpful. Rick
