Thanks for the input kthompson. I will try the NH phone call trick, but we all know that each dealer will have their "better" points to make on what they are selling. The guy that wants to sell me the LS is pushing the product as a well organized company with a huge parts base and as good as NH. I guess it may be like Walmart selling Mossburg guns and the local gun dealer complaining how Mossburg makes a lesser model for Walmart to sell for cheaper?

The fuel hand pump only moves fuel on the low pressure side of the fuel pump. Loosen fuel input fitting at the IP, then use the LP pump until fuel dribbles out. Tighten fitting. Next follow the steel lines up to the injectors themselves. Loosen the hex collar that fastens the steel lines to the injectors. Crank the engine until fuel dribbles out at the hex fittings. Tighten. Bleeding should now be complete. <br>

Not sure that your arrow is pointing at the correct overflow location. All 4 Chinese tractors IPs I've owned drained from a plug on the underside rear, almost directly below that mushroom shaped breather/fill cap and pointing at the ground. The overflow plug was on the rear end of the IP, pointing toward the clutch pedal.<br>

Big problem with these Chinese IPs is fuel contamination. You should not simply top up, you should first drain completely, assuming oil is contaminated with fuel. Replace bottom plug, then remove side plug. Fill with fresh oil from the top until it runs out the side. Replace side plug and breather/fill plug. Breather/fill plug gets dirty too, and should be given a kerosene bath then blown out from the threaded end with compressed air<br>

FWIW I use 30w compressor oil rather than engine oil. It handles heat better.<br>

I think what you're referring to as a diverter valve is the PV or priority valve. It's what diverts hyd fluid from the main circuit to the power steering pump controller sub circuit. PV is usually painted black, and can be found just forward and slightly left of the brake pedals. The steering controller is at the base of the steering column, and I'm pretty sure what your calling orbitals are inside the controller.<br>

You can remove and disassemble the PV for cleaning, but I don't know of anyone who's attempted to remove a steering controller. If you've ever done a kerosene flush of the hydraulic system, you'll be cleaning the steering controller in the process.<br>

It took me many months and trying many many oil filters before I discovered the solution for an oil filter for my Shibaura SD1400. WARNING-it aint cheap. There is an Australian company named "Aeroflow" who makes an oil filter sandwich adapter/cooler. $150 US. I bought my through Ebay. It was the only such adapter that had a large enough adapter plate to seal up with the 1400. It comes with several screw-on adapters. Once fitted to the tractor you buy a filter with a 20mm female thread and an o-ring of 68mm and install. It also has 2 ports for pressure/temp gauges or can be sealed off with o-ring bosses (napa). WORKS PERFECTLY-NO LEAKS AND FILTERS ARE AVAILABLE AT WALMART

Interesting discussion. A little off topic: I have a small Generac generator. The 3-prong outlets have an open ground. That is, the neutral and ground terminals are open when you would assume and expect them to have no resistance between them. My first generator had this condition and a replacement generator from Generac has the same situation. Can any of the forum members use a common electrical tester on their own generator and see if it checks out OK or if it also shows an open ground? I don't have a transfer switch for use at home. In a blackout situation I would connect the "floating ground" terminal on the generator with the house ground rod. The generator could be connected into the house wiring, I assume, if (and only if) I open the main circuit breaker to prevent voltage from entering the commercial electrical grid. When camping, I would like to tie the generator to a GFCI device, a temporary ground rod and the chassis of my RV. I've asked Generac for help with the wiring diagram. The open ground on their generator has me concerned since this doesn't meet electrical codes and a GFCI will not "set" if there is a wiring error. Your ideas?

Hopefully this helps but if your air filter was at any point under water it is very possible it is hydra locked so take your plugs out and see if you can turn it by hand

I have trouble with the TPL it will not lower. It worked fine for months then started to drop with a jerk, suspected maybe lowering solenoid sticking.I have swapped positions of raise/lower solenoid blocks and still will raise, but not lower. Also it will not lift or hold its position unless the hydraulic speed lever is in slowest position. Could it be a blown lowering cylinder seal? Before I pull it apart i need some schematics. Is there a manual or parts book available that would show me whats inside? Where could I get one?<br>

Hey there I'm back again in search of assistance. Everything is good in the cooling system now, for those who helped before. (Installed an in-line radiator hose heater)

Now it's hydraulic issues... my main questions:
What fluid and filters for a hydro change?
How to accurately measure oil in transmission with dipstick (screw-in and measure or just insert)?
Where to find production date to know what filter(s) (reverse flow or standard)?

Is the PTO clutch hydraulically driven? The other day I got my PTO going so I let it run for a bit with PTO on then went to move the tractor. At that point, it seemed like a power struggle between PTO and the hydrostatic movement going forward. When I let off, the PTO returned to full speed. So I'm thinking the fluid level is low because the FEL is slow as molasses even when it's warm and severely lacking power to lift even small things.

Thank you for the help! It's getting nice out and going to need to MMM soon! (For those who don't know, I recently learned myself, Mid-Mount-Mower Wink yeah right )

First of all the tractors you list are not what I call Garden Tractors, rather Compact Tractors. I changed the subject for that.

It sounds like you have some one time projects and a long term mowing requirement.

The prices you quote are highly depreciated from original new cost, which means that their maintenance free years are long long gone. So have your tool set ready or be ready to spend $$$ to get it fixed.

If your garden is small I think you would be better off not buying such large old Tractor.

Rent a Kubota B series or similar for the one off jobs for a day or weekend. Rent a Tiller once a year for the garden. And buy a zero radius front mower for the lawn.

Or if you have to have a small diesel tractor get a used Sub Compact Kubota BX or similar other make Sub Compact Tractor.

Buy Tractor to maintain under 2 acres

I don't know about being the young one around here. I just turned 54 on April 7th.

I know one thing for sure......long winters make for a very painful start to the Spring tree climbing season. The first week can be pretty hard on a guy.

I'm back in shape now. We've taken down about 20 trees since April 1st. I'm in the process of taking down 4 large Boxelders that are hanging over a guy's garage. It's a lot of work. A crane would be handy....but not necessary.

I just finished a tree row between two houses. The trees that we removed had to be taken down in sections, from the top down, as there wasn't enough room to drop them between the houses. 8 trees were removed in this fashion. Climb to the top, then start dropping small sections or limbs, until the tree is short enough to drop the remainder of it. Climbing 8 trees in one afternoon can cause an old man to walk rather funny for a few days. LOL.

Thanks KThompson, I have done more research and have two additional adjustments to the clutch I am going to try this weekend if they don't work I will see if clutch is rusted and stuck together.
