You're very short on words. It's difficult to understand what you've done to this point in time.

You didn't by chance install the wrong glow plugs? Is it possible that you installed glow plugs that were too long, causing them to make contact with your pistons?

I'd really like to see a nice long message from you, explaining things in the greatest detail that you're able to provide.

Hopefully someone has experienced this before: My tractor is a SD2843T. Last week I hitched up my brush hog with plans to cut the field for the first time. I got the mower hooked up and activated the lever to lower the mower deck, but instead of going down, the deck shot straight up. It won't lower. Or should I say the rear PTO control arms won’t lower. The pressure gauge needle spikes when I push the PTO control, so I know I’m pushing fluid. However, the control valve for my loader also leaks fluid from the front caps when I put stress on the PTO lever. The loader’s control valve is a Prince model 5000 Mono block two sleeve, three position that only controls the front loader. The PTO control is electric and sits to right side of my seat mounted on the fender. All fluid for both front and back run through the Prince control valve.<br>
This tractor has two hydraulic pumps mounted back to back on the right side of the engine in front of the starter. The rear pump has a cylinder housing for a screen filter. I emptied out all the hydraulic fluid. I took the filter out and inspected it. It was very clean. I blew air through the line running up to the control valve. I disconnected all the lines running into the control valve and took it apart. I replaced all four O-rings and inspected it. It looked fine, so I put it all back together and remounted it. I took the electric control switch box off the fender and took it apart. I cleaned all the contacts and checked continuity with a multimeter. It works fine. I also took the time to change the engine oil and flush the radiator. After all that, the rear control arms are still stuck in the upward position. I finally got another tractor, lifted the brush hog up and dismounted it. If anyone has ever had a similar experience with a Grey Market tractor, I would appreciate knowing how you fixed it. The Grass keeps growing.<br>

I found my owner's manual but I cannot see a part number for the carb. If you want a copy of the manual, I would be happy to send it or fax it to you. I am not sure how useful it will be though. I bought my unit used as well (10 years ago!) and apparently the original documentation had an engine manual as well which gave instructions on how to adjust the carburetor. I cannot find that copy in my "manual" file and I don't remember if I ever had it. In any case, you might want to try Outdoor Power Products in Spokane at 509-536-6069. This is the contact number for replacement parts which can be found at the back of the Owner's Manual. I hope this helps!

I've never driven a car or pickup with a CVT, but have driven tractors with them. I can see where having an engine operate in it's most efecient RPM range may help with fuel mileage, but whether the cost of the CVT will be greater than the fuel savings, I don't know.

Some of you may be thinking "Hydrostatic" when the term CVT is used, but no they are two completely different animals.

I guess I have a couple of options here. I had originally thought about using the draw bar but was a little stumped on how to make it stable.

The Wheelhorse implements were meant to be lifted by a manual cable lifter.

Joel the implements all use the common pull bar that gets reconfigured for each attachment. The clevis hitch is welded to that plate in my pix, and the position of the plate moves based on whether you are pulling the plow, cultivator or disc. With my re purposing to 3PH I need to play around with the plow to see if it matters.

KT your idea of the draw bar and chains sounds interesting, I don't know why I did not think of chaining it up for the lift :-( You guys are so clever ....

I have read back through all you comments and stumped.

If read all correctly you had replaced the glow plugs more than once.
Each set has done about the same, burn out first time used.
They are only getting voltage designed for (12 volts).
You tried install switch to be sure power was cut to the plugs and not coming on while running. Test that even with head light and it cut off proving power was off. (Bulb was still working right and had not burned out?)

A couple of more questions: have all the glow plugs been the same part number? Are they coming from the same parts source? Are they all the same brand? Have you looked very carefully (even with magnifying glass) for physical damage to them when pulled out? Are you sure you are not some how damaging them when installing, such as socket cocked at angle or tightening them to (if possible) where they crack).

If this has happened say with three sets doubt you have been stuck in a bad batch of glow plugs. But would start with being 100% sure have the correct glow plugs. It is not impossible incorrect ones were even installed at factory. It is not impossible there is a mistake on part number where you are buying them or even in the material they have.

May I suggest you do a search for the engine in your tractor and see if you can find parts break down giving the specs on the glow plugs from Mitsubishi itself?

Now I mention something an mechanic told me a few years back about spark plugs and have had it to happen on small engines . If they get flooded it can kill the spark plug. Well diesel fuel and gas are not the same and spark plug and glow plugs are not either. But wonder if they are getting soaked with diesel (or starting fluid) before the engine fires could that some how short them out? No idea.

Verify the proper glow plugs is what I would do first.

If it grinds going into gear as well, you may have an issue with the shift collar meshing with the forward gear. Good way to tell is if it grinds going into both forward and reverse it is probably something outside the transaxle, like idle too high when shifting or the linkage out of adjustment causing it to jump out of gear. If it only grinds going into forward and it jumps out of gear sometimes, it is most likely the shift collar and forward gear. Forward gear is used most often so it will wear out faster than reverse.

There is a product called roof coat especially made for coating barn roofs. In our farming area we have several contractors that put this on. It usually comes in a light gray or silver. Believe it has fiberglass strands in it which helps hold it together over the years stopping it from pealing. Powerwash the roof first, let it dry and screw down any loose sections. If you are only doing a small section, there is stuff mobile home owners use that will do the trick. My barn was painted almost 20 years ago with it and it still looks good.

Dealers are always happy to toss out a set of keys! It's the best selling tactic known to man.

Take a picture of it and hang the photo on the wall. It will cost you 30 bucks.....and no monthly payments. Plus, that photo will last a whole lot longer than the vehicle would. LOL.

I do have to say I truly miss my 1969 Camaro. It was my first and only car. I've owned nothing but heavy trucks since then....and I've never owned a new vehicle in my entire life.

I just priced a new F-450. $999.00 per month for the rest of my life. Just the sales tax on something like that would be about the total cost of the truck I just purchased. Insurance and license is always extra.

In reading the others recommendations and all great one thought came to my mind..and Chief covered it but look at fuel carefully. Something beside "clean" diesel may be in there. Might have been a mix up on what was last put in there or could be contaminated fuel.

I was always under the impression that the listed models and a couple others like the 4100 and the 790 were basically "Green Yanmars", made and assembled in Japan.

The 4200/10 through 4500/10's were a mixture of Yanmar engines and american parts assembled in america.

Update..... apparently the steering spindle inside the front axle was originally designed with a sealed bearing at the top and a combination of a "wet" bearing backed by a bronze bushing on the bottom.

It was this lower bushing/bearing combo that wore out. The engineering fix is to replace this lower assembly with double wet bearings.

I would just Google by tractor brand, model, part number or part description and you will find out who is selling parts for your tractor on the web. There will probably be dealers happy to get you parts as well, lots of money in it.

Yeah Mike, electrical investigation is next. I have a few blocks under the brush hog. It has to be electrical. However, one thing I notice is that under pressure when I push the lever in the down position, the needle on my hydraulic guage shoots up like its under enormous pressure and my engine feels the pull. This would indicate that signal is getting to the pump. I also thought there might be a clog in the return line somewhere in the back. Either way, the tractor is completely drained of hydraulic fluid now so time to look at other possibilities.

I know what you're talking about though Pete, landing on the deck of a carrier involves stopping a ~50,000 pound aircraft doing ~150 mph in less than 2 seconds.

Guess where the bottom straps of the restraint harness are.......
