Had a friend that had a terrible experience with a name brand air filter in his Allis 7060. It failed in just a few hours and passed thru the engine causing thousands of dollars in damage. Machine was never the same after that. I use manufacturer air and oil filters. If there is a problem, they do tend to warrant to some extent the damage. A Petroleum supplier told me their oils have to meet or exceed the manufacturer's performance otherwise they are liable. I remember Quaker changing their formula in the 10w40 in 1980 and had to replace lots of heads and camshafts in Ford 2.3L Pintos, Mustangs and Fairmonts! I use Deere oil in my Deeres simply because it is cheaper in bulk and warrants the engine. Anymore the dollar you save doesn't make enough in intrest in the bank to cover your loss. I've bought cheap tires for implements and seems they are replaced sooner than name brand. New aftermarket means little anymore. You will get what you pay for.

I have a 1975 2030. It has the hvy front axle and big hyd pump for loader. It currently doesn't have one but came with a 146 new. I use it to do all but heavy tillage. Biggest pull is no till 6RN 7000 JD planter and doesn't lack for power or into the gov to pull it. Look at the Neb tractor tests and you will see this tractor pulled it's own weight and actually more than the 2630! Mine doesn't have hi/lo or reverser nor Ind PTO,less trouble. Tires and coolant condition are the biggest headaches. Otherwise a great machine with plenty of guts in a just right size. I'll keep mine til I die.

As I said in my post I understand the difference between today's low house values and replacement cost. The number they have is just too big.

Went online (Sunday no less :) ) and got a policy with Liberty Mutual for $350 less per year at lower insured valuation which I think is a reasonable rebuild value, which is also a hefty amount over market.

Yeah, my little orchard was a dead loss this year. Just personal size; apples/peaches/pears/cherries/nectarines/blueberries/grapes for home use. One of the three grapevines - the late one that usually gives me grapes in Aug/Sep - didn't produce until November. Everything else was a total write-off.<br>

But the real wild one was the honeysuckle. It's usually in full bloom before the end of May, but for only about 2-3 weeks. But in late May of this year, there were very few honeysuckle that were even green. Imagine my surprise when I eventually saw some blooming near the end of October !!<br>

There's two components to a stand-alone generator.

First the gas engine that spins the generator head. The second is the generator head itself.

They are designed to work as a set. They are very closely matched in size and relative output.

No matter how big an engine you put on a 2,000 watt generator, it will only really ever put out that much power.

It may put out a little more for a bit, but....... It's only a matter of time before you let the magic smoke out. :-(

The other issue with the mismatch is that it will be very probable that the different engine will spin the generator head at the wrong RPM. That will result in the wrong output voltage and frequency (hertz) which will play havoc with anything you try to run off the generator.

Art - your correct some areas the people may be too proud to ask for asistance but other areas watch out..you get trampled by the rush. It's a culture thing -watched the Ken Burns Dust Bowl series, said that people then were very conscientious of letting anyone know they took assistance and only did as last resort. Time/culutre has changed from then and now seems to have 'embraced' the new 'it's owe'd me'. Got the the following clip from a close friend who's training in the medical field in a large inner city, where he got it from not sure...he did say the writer hit the mark from what he has seen

Hey Hutch, thanks for the reply. The 255 I have does happen to be a little cold collared. I grew up with 150 massey that was like you said, no matter how cold, it cranked right up. This one on the other hand, like my grandpas 180, will not crank if its around 40 or colder. It has a plug in heater on the engine that works really well, but my problem is, if I have to leave the tractor out somewhere where I cant plug it in, then I have to use starting fluid to crank it. And I hate using starting fluid on one. So I was hoping maybe I could install glow plugs on it for those situations. Thanks

I have a Mahindra 6500; similar issues but does not start in cold weather; battery is good but not strong enough to start tractor the first time; starts well after I put a charger on it; seems like something is dragging the battery down; maybe a short somewhere? Also have to jiggle the PTO lever to allow the tractor to start!! I installed a block warmer which has helped but not total solution?<br>

Wanted to let others know I figured out my wiring problem on my Ford 800. The parts store gave me the wrong selonoid. After purchasing the correct one, problem solved. FYI, not all selonoids work the same way!!!!

I have been looking into prices of sheetmetal of the roof of both my shed and house. I would like to get quality material as well as an affordable price that don't break my budget. So far I have all the normal quotes from normal places but I was wondering if there was anyone who knew somewhere or something that could be beneficial as well. I have learned word of mouth usually will land me the better deal in the end, so if there is anyone with good information as to what and where to get metal roofing it would be greatly appreciated. Color is more not the issue than price. I was an industrial painter for 25+ years so I frequently change the color of things anyway. thanks for anyone info and time.

TxJoey, A update on my cc 7205. I think the starting issue was caused by either a bad glow plug controller and or glow plug relay. Changed both with oem parts and , since then, no starting issues. Do not change the relay with an over the counter part, that did not work. This issue had nothing to do with fuel delivery. Just a note, the glow plugs only are active when the weather dictates. Therefore, sometimes, there is no juice at the glow plugs. Initially, I thought this indicated a electrical problem, which was not the case. Hope this information helps others.

Coffee stains wipe away instantly with most general purpose household spray cleaners. I use Mean Green, but the purple one and good old 409 should work equally as well. I know this, because it doesn't take long for the inside of my white coffee cup to get a rather ugly brown. No soaking needed at all, it really IS spray-n-wipe !!
