Auto Restorer magazine did a series on battery maintenance charger in the last six months. IIRC you are basically correct, but *some* AC maintenance chargers will not fully charge a battery either. Most of them seem to indicate in the directions whether they can or can not bring a battery to a full charge from a weakened state. Those that can desulfate the plates are more probably more likely to. It would be a good idea to do your online research at the manufacturer web site for any specific model before buying.

I'm absolutely with Murf on this one. I used to think All Seasons would be enough, and they were in CA and AZ, but up here in Oregon there is NO WAY I'd be caught without good studded snow tires. Six inches of ice on a road has a way to make a believer out of skeptics! We have tried a few different brands over the years but my favorite are the Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded snow tires. Yes, the studs are noisy and do damage the roads, but I'd be willing to pay an extra fee to help cover the damage vs. go without.

I do keep a clipboard with maintenance, service and repair records for our geothermal heat pump because it is such a POS. For the tractor I keep all receipts in a file, grease it after each use and sort of just remember when the maintenance was done based on the hour meter. For cars I keep receipts in a file and fill out the owner maintenance records. For pressure washer, generator, and other small gas equipment I just change the oil at the beginning of each summer as needed (two cycle excluded) and do the plugs and repairs as needed. Sort of a hodge-podge system but it works for me.

For a long time I thought it was just me so I got in the habit of having the manual handy and following the instructions to the letter when starting the darn things. They still start hard when following the instructions to the letter. Maybe starting fluid is required. Maybe they just don't like cold and/or humid weather. Maybe that are just dooty! No Hondas for me, that is for sure.

Sometimes I work from home but usually not. The policy allows it but the project requires working with a big rack of computers and diagnostic test equipment so it's usually not feasible. The commute is only 20-25 minutes so not too bad.

If the clutch isn't giving you fits you should be ok. If you need a new secondary clutch for the HPX 4x4 that is part number AM138486. There used to be a serial number break but there isn't any longer.

Not familiar with the Kawasaki twin cylinder engine on your machine, but are you saying that the series is fuel tank, then fuel filter, then fuel pump, then carburetor?

If you disconnect the filter hose in that sequence and have it lower than the tank gas should pour out from the tank or else you have debris in the tank or something wrong with your fuel hose.

Most fuel pumps on engines that size are vacuum, but could use other means like mechanical or electric to do the job.

I just replaced the fuel pump on a B&S Vanguard Twin for $20.

Before closing down my Bad River company, we often sold products to put a carry-all together. We used our 3pt. hitch adapter/2" sq. tube receiver adapter and bolted it to a horizontal drawbar. Customers could go to Harbor Freight and get a cargo carrier for about $60.00 which sometimes was on sale for $40.00.

They have a 500 lbs. rated capacity. We would not use their standard rail outer wall/fence but line it with 3/8" plywood and build up a box around it with 6" tall sides. Since your hitch won't go all the way to ground level, 2" x 6" ramps could be made with 1 1/2" angle irons on the end to catch on a lip for connection to the carrier. You could roll up generators, small lawn mowers, tillers, snowblowers, etc. on it.

This carrier would also fit your pick-up or SUV. Without the carrier attached, your tractor could use the hitch adapter for moving trailers. It was a very versatile and inexpensive combination.

At the time we also sold a vertical rack system that mounted to the rear of the tractor for holding a toolbox, chainsaws, shovels, hoes, rakes, axes, weed trimmers, etc.

Changed oil in engine and fuel pump. Pump was full of diesel. Pump no longer leaks at all. Have put about 3hrs on it with no leaking. Read online that these pumps tend to fill with diesel over time and need to be drained every so often. So far so good.
Now to find some weights for the rear so I can get some traction.

This information is from my "Instruction Book" that came with the tractor. Publication No. M-1

On page 11 this is the paragraph for....
"THROTTLE LEVER
When the throttle lever is pulled fully toward the operator, the engine speed reaches the maximum of 2,900 rpm. The rated speed of the engine model K3A is 2,700 rpm. This engine speed is not only the most appropriate one to get the longest service life from your tractor but also the most economical one. It is the best therefore, to run the engine at the rate of 2,700 rpm."

This is specs as related to the PTO, page 60.

To inspect everything when it was apart. The one thing i did notice was on the end of the shaft where it meets the forks there was one bolt and a hole for another. Now I'm wondering if the bolt came undone and is causing the issue. With all new parts I don't know it seems like an adjustment issue but nothing I do in the adjustment gives me enough pedal to get the job done. Hate to do it but I might need to pull it apart again. New plate disc bearings but nothing made a difference.

LESSON LEARNED: (November 24, 2012) The use of the ninety degree bend exhaust extension worked, however I found that it did create one problem. While I could turn the front tires to the right, I could not fully turn the front tires to their maximum limit to the right without causing the left front tire to rub on the ninety degree extension. I have since removed the ninety degree extension. I will live with dust and dirt (on some occasions) being blown up into my face from the exhaust gasses hitting the left front tire. <br>
