That's interesting to me that you bought the reverse rotation. I bought a Land Pride front rotation and came close to buying a reverse rotation instead that was sitting right beside it on the lot. I don't remember the price difference, but my intrest was that the reverse rotation might handle trash and old garden roots better.
Let us know after you've used it a time or two this spring. I don't remember anyone giving a first hand experience with one here. Frank.

Kevin - I know this is a long time past, but where did you find the belly mower? What year is this tractor? I dont expect you to still have it, I am just trying to get an idea how to search it out. If I dont find a belly mower soon, my 79 155D has to go. My wife says tractor or mower, but not both...

It would seem then to me that your starting point - if not Northern - should be the manufacturer (see link below). I'm pretty sure you'll find more folks rebuilding cylinders, than you find replacing them. Ameriquip can almost certainly steer your in the right direction of the proper seal kits. <br>

When working on cylinders, secure the lines in a position so the exposed fittings just slightly above the sump line. That will stop them from dripping, and the fluid already IN the lines - will keep the water OUT. If fittings are to be disconnected and exposed for an extended period - like while awaiting parts - cover them with cellophane wrap held by rubber bands.<br>

It might be wise to rebuild the cylinders first, then see how (or if) it affects any of the other issues you touched upon<br>

in a non related matter. Have you had any issues with cranckase oil overfilling with too much gas.I can only go about 10 hours before I have to drain and put in new oil.

Since you list your location as CA, I suspect you're wondering if it arrived via Mexico. I can't say this with any authority, but I don't think there's any reason for concern. The emission standards didn't kick in till 2007, so - Mexican or American - you're pretty safe with one that's stamped with 2005 dates.<br>

I say this knowing how massive the Chinese west coast container port is. I spent some time there when it was still the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Since China sends this stuff over by the boatload, I'm thinking Long Beach may even receive a majority of Chinese tractors sold in North America. So I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the KAMAs sold in Mexico and Canada didn't actually come in via Long Beach. And since the Chinese wholesale this stuff by the boatload, it only makes economic sense that it all come off the same assembly line.<br>

Just thinking about your rattle. Does your oil pressure light work? When you turn your ign. switch to the run position the two left lights should come on ( amp and oil ) Just thinking you could have bad rod bearings in your motor, but if your oil pressure light works it should at least flicker at idle when the motor warms up. Sometimes a rod bearing won't show up until it's under a load.

We checked all the linkage that was visable and all the pins are intact.
We are concerned it may be something worse.

A metal to metal sound and the engine shut down. Is the engine locked so it can't be turned by hand or starter?
Lots of things can have those symptoms, a rod or main bearing can spin then lock, a broken connecting rod, a timing gear or chain has broken letting the valves contact the piston tops, etc., etc., none of these are cheap fixes. Have you taken the oil drain plug out to see what comes out?
Loosen the oil drain plug to the point just before it comes out to see what comes out first. A bit of water is normal from condensation, or if a lot of water or antifreeze comes out before any oil. Are there any other things that may have seemed different that might give us a better idea?

Thanks for the help. It turned out to be a worn patch on the tang of the float. I very carefully applied some heat and managed to successfully bend the tang about a quarter of a millimetre - problem solved.

I'd assume a leaking head gasket, except that's rare on so new an engine. As for it being fuel, I'd assume it would burn off pretty fast, but Greg knows what he's talking about.

It sounds like it is time for a clutch job. These two stage clutches lose the ability to release the pto clutch as the main clutch wears. If the main clutch is not slipping now, it probably will be soon. Be sure too get a quote on a clutch job before you buy. The prices on these are very expensive. A complete clutch assembly from JD is over $2000.00 for the part alone. usually a complete clutch is not needed. only worn parts need replacement. These are great tractors, just be sure you get it cheap enough to still be able to replace the clutch. Good Luck!

Hard clay won't be a problem at all. Just go slow.

If you find that the tractor or tiller is having a hard time of it, just move over into the previously tilled area a couple of feet (overlap) so that you aren't breaking up as much packed soil with each new pass. Your first trip down will be the hardest for you.

You could also adjust the skids for a shallow cut on the first pass, then adjust them for a deeper cut on the following passes.

The King Kutter II tiller is fairly heavy. I've never had a problem with it lifting out of the ground as it breaks up sod. My 5 foot model weighs 690 pounds. The 6' tiller weighs 780 pounds.

The King Kutter II tiller has a very heavy, adjustable rear gate. If you close it down you'll get a very fine soil. If you open it a couple of chain links, you'll find that you'll be able to travel a bit faster, but the finished soil won't be ground up quite as fine.

The King Kutter tiller comes with the PTO shaft and the adjustable slip clutch. The PTO shaft may have to be cut to length to fit your tractor. It's not difficult to do, but it's important that you do it correctly.

Be prepared to add oil to the drive end on any tiller you buy. The drive housing will be drained when you receive the tiller. You'll also need to grease the end bearings, PTO shaft, and U-joints. Setting the cutting depth is done by adjusting the outside skids. You'll need a couple of wrenches.

Thought I would pass this on to anyone owning a farmtrac,diesel my stepfather experienced an odd problem, the injection pump has no oil drain (according to him nothing in the owners manual about this) and is not oiled by the engine, over time all of the oil will come out of the weep hole allowing the pump to run dry thus ruining it.. is costing him 1000 dollars to get it rebuilt.. hope this will help save someone else the same problem

Someone suggested googling "Gator Parts", I haven't tried it myself yet. I'm sure that Deere could fix you up, but better take a bottle of Malox along. I've been lucky I guess, so far all I've ever needed was fuel pump for a 4X2 long time ago.
