I think those are built in Tennesse but not 100% sure so they really are regional. Suggest you do compare weight as Murf suggested. From what little I have seen of them (on a dealer's yard) they looked decent. No idea how how thick of metal or such they are.

In my tool collection, those that you described as working with the genset have two prong connectors - some not even polarized. Of those you say burned up, mine have three prong connectors. So I'm going to suggest two things; (a) ground the genset, and (b) verify the line/neutral polarity

First off Dan, I hope you understand, and don't take this the wrong way, this is a Kubota, not a Honda.

The brakes are of a 'tractor style' not 'automotive style'.

The brakes are inside the rear differential and if memory serves me correctly, are a splined disc inboard on the axle shaft itself next to the differential mechanism.

In order to "do the brakes" on your machine you would need to do a lot more than take the wheels off, you would need to almost completely disassemble the rear end of the tractor.

On the bright side, the parts themselves are not much money. ;)

Regulator plug, red is hot from starter lug, brown/yellow and brown/white are feeds from stator, black is ground, yellow and yellow/red are feeds to the harness. So yellow and yellow/red should be getting brighter as RPMs increase. If your red is hot and your ground is grounded, check all the connections. If everything is good it's either the regulator or stator, I've seen way more bad regulators than stators. The stator connection into the regulator should give you a flickering bulb in the test light while running. Check thegatorguy.net for used parts if you don't want to buy a new regulator or stator.

I bought a used portable Miller welder generator with a 2 cylinder Onan engine.<br>

It has two settings and outlets for 110VAC. When at an idle it produces 110 but not a lot amps. The other outlet requires flipping a toggle swith to "power while welding" which revs up the engine and produces a lot of power.<br>
<br>
I went to use my 6" bench grinder. The grinder was spinning fairly slow at engine idle and slowed even more when I reid to gring=d a small bolt, so I kicked the gen. up to more power---all of a sudden I heard a high pitched "screaming" sound inside the grinder switch and the grinder would not spin---then the switch started smoking. And now it won't run at all. <br>

This high-pitched screaming sound also happens while welding---comes from the actual arc being made.<br>

So I tried a belt/disc sander. Same thing--noise, smoke not working any more.<br>
<br>
Note that my other tools like a 9" angle grinder, 1/2" drill, 4" angle grinder and sawz-all all work fine.<br>

Could it be the type of motors (brushless?)? Both the bench grinder and the sander are made by Crapsman...I mean, Craftsman. <br>

Anyone have any ideas--other than a "loose nut" (or as Kenny says a "lose nut") behind the switches?<br>

(In case anyone cares or remembers, I had a 5000 watt welder generator that stopped working. Would have cost more to fix it than replace it with new. I put it on Detroit-area Craigslist for $200 and a guy in Mexico found it on-line. He sent his brother who was here to buy it and ship it to him.)

I did it once. As I remember, clutch alignment, throttle linkage, exhaust is BIG. Since I did mine I looked at a bunker rake exhaust and thought that may work with a little cutting and welding. I did it with a FE290D which is close. Good luck.

the air filter is approximately 50 hours old and I recently blew it out with air. Does not appear to be clogged or terribly in need of changing.

I checked the end of the exhaust and it is not oily as I think MURF thought of.

I changed the oil this weekend as it was at 50 hours so I will watch the oil consumption closely.

The fuel is only about 1/8th full and I have to refill diesel tanks so we will see if fuel had anything to do with it, I will get that from a difference station.

Thanks gatoraide and hardwood...think I solved it...clogged main jet and/or bad plug on my 4X2..she runs like a champ now.

Both mine (a KAMA and a TaiShan) are along the left side (facing forward) of the sump. Same problem as you relative to checking/changing them - you have to drain the sump first. But no - if there's paper visible - we've got completely different filtration systems. Mine are clearly fine screen mesh wrapped around a pass-through cylinder.

There's no one place and it depends on what's needed and, other things being equal, your location. You need a dealer or yard that has one as a parts tractor. To start your search for one, you could Google the make and model.

Timing in a FE290D can't be set. Magnets on the flywheel control the timing. Your flywheel key could be sheared or partially sheared , there is an ignitor on the older models that goes bad. It's the silver box on top of the motor with one wire going into it. Your problem could be carb also. Possibly air jet or air jet passage.

Sounds like maybe a bad ground or a wire is chafed or a terminal is loose and drawing too many amps. Or--the safety module is toast--since the light is staying on. But that could be a coincidence too and just needs adjustment. It possible the fuse block terminals are corroded too.

I'd put an amp meter across the fuse block terminals and see what value you're getting. Outside of that, try using a higher value fuse--like 10 amp and see what happens.

I have a TC45D, and it keeps blowing the #2 fuse, which in the owner's manual states "8 amp circuit breaker". The PTO light is on, but I don't have the PTO engaged. Most of the time, I replace the fuse (this has happened 3 times in the last 300 hours or so...), but now, now matter what fuse I put in there, it won't start, and just keeps blowing the fuse. Any ideas???

I think you only have to find out if it takes straight hydraulic oil or combination hydraulic/transmission fluid. Walmart stocks both in drums (here they're termed 19 litres) at a good price.<br>

If you get the filter from other than the dealer, it may look and fit like the factory one but not be designed for this application.
