Thanks, both. The fan wires are identical but red, orange, and black. The switch has one separate terminal and two adjacent ones. So correct if this is wrong:<br>

Fan black to ground. Each of the others goes to one of the adjacent switch terminals. The separate switch terminal goes, though a fuse, to positive. <br>

My father in law told me years ago it is hard to work with just one tractor. Even if the second one is smaller or older or simpler, a backup is hard to beat. Hope all works for you.

It is possible to have a floating piece of trash in the fuel tank that gets sucked over the fuel outlet as fuel is being used and it can partly block or fully block the outlet. If your fuel tank is of design you can look in it by only removing the fuel cap when it looses power take flash light (not a match as a person who did sell tractors did here recently and yes he got burnt) and look for trash at the outlet. It took me a while to find the wasp in mine. Not sure if he flew in while open fueling or was in hose nozzle.

That sure is a neat idea.

There are some uses of the 1000 RPM with USA equipment. I have only seen it on tractors of say 100 hp up. The shaft is different than the 540 in size and number of splines.

You are pushing your Gator with a 10 hp motor thru a centrifical clutch and belt system and there is bound to be some weak spots. One that shows up most often in the 4x2, probably because of the lower horsepower, is the drive clutch rollers. Rollers roll up flyweights inside the clutch,as rpm increases,and squeeze the sheaves together to change the gear ratio. It is important to keep these rollers lubed. Deere has a Teflon based product called Superlube and that is what you should use. If these rollers aren't lubed they will slide up the flyweights instead of roll and this robs power, which is in short supply. The outside bell has to be removed. It's tight, but can be done while on the motor. Also make sure all three plastic buttons are in place in the driven clutch. They ride on the helix angles and are visible on the back side of the clutch. One or more missing will cause the clutch to operate on an angle and bind up. This will rob power also.

Considering Wayne only lists one piece of equipment in his profile, a "2004 416D Rubber Tire Backhoe" we must assume this is what he's talking about.

It looks very much like a large oil filter you would expect to see on an engine, but it's not on the engine. LOL

Since you will need a new one anyways just ask them while you're picking it up. We don't have one of those, but I would think it's up under the hood near the hydraulic reservoir like it is on our machines.

If you have an owners manual it will tell you in there where it's located.

I can not explain the why nor think of the model of Gator we have but it is about 6 year old 7 hp gas. I found it to be very touchy if allowed to sit for a period of time probably at least two months. It runs terrible and often as you say only with choke partly pulled. Have learned when it does like that add fresh fuel (carb cleaner may help) and run - run - run it. Guess what ever the restiction is fresh gas running over it cleans it.

Simple to solve, use the Gator every month and since doing that no problem I can remember.

Does it cut out suddenly as from an electrical cutoff, or more gradually as from fuel starvation?

Does "putting in gear" mean depressing the clutch pedal, shifting into any gear, or then letting the clutch back up?

yeah KT the little white tractor is a David Brown 990 selectamatic; 4 cylinder diesel with a 12 speed three stick gear box, poor old girl is near as old as i am. heavy ploughing,this paddock was ploughed up last winter and planted forage barely last april (2008) and cattle feed on it in aug sept, just replanted same paddock again for this years winter crop, again forage mix 40 acre equals 10 by 40kg bags (880lbs) of forage barely 80kg (176lbs) of Forage Oats and 20kg (44lbs) lucerne. my own idea for the mix, this year all working up (ploughing) of the paddock done with the david brown and set of 16 disc offsets. glad you enjoyed the pics. see new pic of David brown & combine seeder set up.<br>

There is a rod that connects the rear hitch to the mower lift mechanism. I am guessing that a pin has fallen out or the rod is broken.
