The amount of motive power available in High range on these 200 series is quite underwhelming to me. I did almost everything in Low range. <br>

I have received a lot of advice on mower for ditches and moving dirt that each has been used and appreciated. The mower advice probably saved me a few hundred if not thousands of dollars. BTW, have a new one for excavator I hope to have running in next week or two depending on fittings and weather.

But the biggest thing I probably have gathered from here are two, some great internet friends who I really respect and THINK before you do it and THINK while you are doing it. Guess back to Ken's safety suggestions.

lesharoturbo, if still having same problem when it happens again, removed fuel fiter if gravity feed from tank or open line but see if fuel is still running at a good flow. If not then you have an issue above it. You could have a piece of trash in your tank that is getting sucked down on the fuel outlet but not totally blocking it.

tinstar, did you get your tractor working? If so what did you find to be the issue?

I also have a SL1603 and have had fits getting info . The books claim this model comes with a K723 engine . This indicates that it is a 72MMX72MM (bore and stroke) with 3 cylinders . I looked at the block and mine says 713 . Small difference but significant if I need to change pistons or rings . What engine do you fellas have ?
Also how strong are your front hubs ? Mine has bearings inside and out . The hub had spacers wrapped around the bearings so it would fit better . When they slipped out I noticed that the bearings would wobble . I had to build up the bearing space with a type of JB weld .If I turn too sharply they would lay over and wear more . It still works but requires attention moreso than it should . My front end loader is Stallion brand . It is severly oversized for this tractor .Half a scoop is more than enough . It looks like a Viet Nam rebuild .

Did not find any reference to the cylinders when searching, perhaps if they are readily available it is a common kit used for other brands?

First off, you don't need to remove them to test them.

Take a lines off one of the cylinders and put an air line to it, compressed air (to a certain extent) works just fine to test them. If the piston seals are bad the air will fully extend (or retract) the cylinder and when it gets to the end of the stroke you will air hissing out the other line. No air hissing means that cylinder is fine. Then do the other one.

Be [b][u]sure[/b][/u] to have a) a rag tied over the unused line, and b) safety gear on, gloves, glasses, face mask, etc. and c) a container into which you can pour the oil that will come out while you're doing this.

The seals are standard hydraulic stuff, take one to a hydraulics shop and they will set you up with the right stuff x 2 sets.

Note: what you get at any decent shop will likely be the same as what you would get at the dealer, but will likely be a good bit less. YMMV. ;)

Thanks for the information regarding the on-demand 4x4 system on the XUV. What I found out today (at appears to be known as a problem) is that when you are in 4x4 mode in high gear, the right front half-shaft can come out of its housing and starts to create a knocking sound. Put the Gator on a lift and reseated the shaft, and things were much better. Need to find out from JD why this happens. Really appreciate the response. Thanks.

Extreme heating of the oil can cause many problems, but not necessarily so. How long did you run it like that? Extended running in relief can damage the pump, seals and orings throughout the system. If everything is working well now, then probably no pump damage occurred. If you start developing leaks in various places, then you can probably blame the heat for damging seals. Hopefully you didn't run it long enough to cause any real harm, But I also recommend oil and filter change as well as sump screen cleaning. If you find any aluminum shavins in the screen, that is a strong indicator of pump damage. Good Luck!

Two things, one easy, one not so easy. First is drive belt, if your drive belt is worn that means it is narrower and will require more rpms to move the drive clutch sheaves in to engage it. Second is drive clutch spyder rollers. As soon as your rpms increase, your Gator should start to move. If your clutch rollers haven't been serviced I would guarantee they have big flat spots on them and are sliding up the flyweights instead of rolling. If they have flat spots, the flyweights seat into them and it requires more rpm to engage the belt. If they aren't rolling, it robs power from the motor trying to close the clutch and get into a higher gear. Iam saying if you get a new belt and a new spyder ( you can't just buy the rollers )for your drive clutch, you'll think you have a new Gator. A new belt would probably help some, but both would get you back to where you want to be.

My MF 5435 intermittently will not go forward or back. It has hydraulic transmission with power shuttle shift. There are power shuttle indicator lights on the dash, red on left over the reverse arrow, and green on right on the forward arrow. When the tranismission will not engage there is a sequence of flashes on the red light. It lights up twice, then pauses, then lights four times, then pauses, and then it flashes rapidly. My dealer hasn't been able to get hold of anyone at MF to find out what the code means. I suspect that hydraulic fluid is either overheating or getting clogged somewhere, but we've changed the fluid and all filters. Ideas?

The first thing is to see if it is going all the way into gear. There is a shift collar that rides on the input shaft and it locks on 2 spring loaded balls when in gear. If it isn't going all the way in, the collar won't lock. Just a matter of adjustment there. Also, sometimes the spring will break and it won't put enough load on the balls to hold the collar. The spring goes all the way thru the input shaft and pushes balls out each side. After that, there are 2 gear kits that Deere sells to replace worn parts in the transaxle, but it has to be torn down to find out what's wrong. If you can't get it with adjustment, it has to come out.

Hi! I,ve got a Shibaura P15F and had 3pt lift troubles with it. It was all in the electrics that control the system. So, if your tractor has the electrical control system the problem could be there. I eliminated the factory system and replaced it with 3 simple switches and tilt, raise, lower all works the way it should. Darin over at Stormer Tractors in N.C. was very helpful. Hope this helps you out some.

Eric, If you haven't found filter #'s yet you might try Stormertractors.com over in N.C. They have Shibaura filters listed and Darin there is very helpful. He helped me straighten out my lift system when the electrics went haywire. Also the local Ford compact tractor dealer might have the filters.

I have a line on some of the parts and thought I had the gear case secured until we found that the item was mismarked. Until I get my hands on them I will continue to search for them.
The lower gear case broke at the lower bearing housing taking with it the lower bevel gear, ring gear, and associated bearings, seals, etc. Apparently Mitsubishi has stopped making this part and they are onle available from salvage. I had hoped to find a complete unit or swap the front drive out with one from a similar machine, but can not determine a compatable donor.
The Case IH 275MFD is the same as the Mitsubishi MT300D and the Mitsubishi MT301D. There are probably some Satoh models that are the same but can not find info on them.
If I do come up with the parts, I will let you knowwhere I obtained them and how much I had to pay. I may try to repair the part, but there is a great deall of stress at the point of the break and am not sure the repair would last. I'm not sure it the case is made of cast steel or cast iron. The material of the casting makes a big difference on the strength of the repair.
