A lot of people ask me about turf maintenance, including trimmers.

I often get asked what trimmer is the best one, my answer is always the same; "none.".

Seriously, we go to a lot of trouble to have things arranged such that a trimmer is not needed. They are, IMHO, the single biggest waste of time, money and labour there is in turf care. Not to mention likely the most likely to injure a worker.

Mulch, edge, glcosulfates (Round-up, etc.), pave, anything [u][b]except[/b][/u] having to use one of those infernal contraptions.

thx kw...dealer called the other day and working on the problem...said some knuckle was worn in the axel so he had to order more parts, should be done next week. Oh well had guy come mow for the weekend so the neighbors dont kick me out of the alotment. cost me 120.00

Know no more than on their web site but just looking at it did not seen any engine size in both the CK and DK models. It looks like the CK is up to 34 hp and the DK begins at 38 hp. Did not see all the models you list so wonder if I missed something or they are old models? No idea.

The steering box bearing is NSK #15BSW02 and is available through KAMAN Bearing Co. NSK also make the nut & shaft.
You are right about the bicycle bearing. If your outer bearing race and the shaft(inner race)are reasonably smooth, the bicycle cage and rollers will work. Use a bearing from a bike shop that has 8-(0.219"diameter) balls
with an inside diameter of 5/8 inch. Take the outer race and shaft with you to the bike shop. i do this while waiting for Kaman delivery. Bike shop $2.00 US!!!!!

I'm not sure how the 1520 compares to my TC33D hydro but the service manual calls it a "combination system relief and divertor valve". It is a machined steel block with banjo-fittings and such on it--not off the shelf by any means. Perhaps if you knew the flow circuits I suppose you could rig one up. Buuuut I'd lean toward OEM, especially when you consider finding the right fittings and possibly new hoses.

As far as source for aftermarket or used parts, my New Holland machines are relatively too new to have many used parts available. For new parts I buy from www.Messicks.com in PA.

eBay is a good source if I had to find something quickly.

Appreciate the info. The price I got was for the shank with the tip included. (Can't tell you if they're welded or peened on. I'll find out when I get 'em.)

I was able to answer my own question so here ya go...
newholland.com has the parts catalog on-line in the ag section. Although it is just as inaccurate as one might expect from a 50 year old tractor it got me where I needed to be.

The spring is to hold the parking handle from engaging the foot brake. I am taking the part number and such from an illustrated manual that I purchased from you about a year ago. It's TM426, if you have the parts manual it's on page 67 item 37 torsion coil spring. It has nothing to do with the internal workings of the brakes only sets the foot brake. But without the spring the parking handle always get in the way of the foot brake and engages.

Just in case someone else comes up against something similar, with your input I overcame my forgetfulness and have it working. You're right about the swapping around for the correct placement hydraulic hose connections and also the valve. My valve is obvious and almost invisible. I have a small knob on the wall just below the driver's seat. The valve diverts the fluid. I cranked that around and swapped the hose connection, and the lift now works.

I'm trying to find a manual for that same tractor. Please let me know if you have any luck. It may be easier to find one there down under since they've been imported there. You might be able to find a comperable FORD compact tractor as most were built by Shibaura. Not sure if WIX filters are available there but I use 51334 Oil filter and 46270 Air filter. My 3 pt system quit on me. It was that electrical system.with the automatic leveling junk. I bypassed it all. So if yours is electric look there. I've been told it's a common problem.
