As you indicated, most tractors don't shove snow at highway speeds. If they did go fast enough, this does not look like a simple installation on the trucks they're designed for, so by the time you got them working on a tractor the snow might have melted.

Murf, it is my understanding The Depression was not as severe in Canada as it was in the USA. Understand that some US companies or organizations at least moved to Canada temporary due to how much better Canada's economy was.

Murf makes sense. In my offroading days at the beginning of the day when everything was still cold, we used to put a child's balloon over the vents of the axles and transfercases and seal them tight. As the oil and air temps increases the balloon expands. This keeps water from being sucked in between the seals when mudding if the vents were completely sealed, and kept them from blowing out when everything got too hot.

biffo, more power and four wheel drive will win out every time. I have driven my 4wd New Holland on such steep embankments in a pond I was digging that the acid in the battery leaked out. Now that's steep. I have never had or driven a Kubota but they make exceptional equipment. But you may want to stick with a hydro.

That's a very simple valve and the o-rings needed are redily available at any dealer or hydraulic shop as recommended.

Let's discuss your claims of testing at nebraska, the tests aren't cheap, and the only thing they do is allow for the tractors to be sold in nebraska. Total cost to a company would be around 100,000 plus from what I've seen on their initial costs in the past. That would increase the costs of a limited sales area quite a bit for the numbers they might gain. It does take a bit of knowledge to change a machine from working in dirt well at it's max to working on concrete. Different tire sizes and types but it does give a reference to work from but not worth to much. I think it was a wise choice of money not to be there with compacts for the limited market! Kubota is number one, deere being number two?

I've had two different "smart" chargers on my boats and the better ones completely shut down when the bank is fully charged. Some even have a fourth stage that "condition" the batteries every so often by applying an overcharge to clean the plates.

The biggest problem I have seen, at least in the marine world, is that people don't maintain the electrolyte levels.

Prior to installing my first automatic system, I used a trickle charger, but that was a pain switching between banks every time they required a charge. Other than doing something similar to what Murf does, the newer smart chargers are the way to go for long-term maintenance IMHO.

All you need is some vegtable oil(cooking oil), methanol(yellow bottle of HEET), and some lye(like your grandmother used to make soap), and some heat to speed things up.

When searching, the JTF site comes up most often, but it's info is either outdated or simply incorrect.

Mixing a bunch of other ingredients does not produce BioDiesel.
It might burn in your engine, but it is not legally recognized as a fuel. It won't pollute less. I wouldn't trust it to not damage any of my engines.

You can process gallons batchs of BioDiesel by hand and use it for an lubrication improving additive. 2-5% does wonders with this ULSD crap we have to use now in everything that wasn't designed for it.

I could go on for hours, weeks.

Can't have our cake and eat it too. Unions were needed when children were used as slaves and sweat shops were the norm but what has occurred in the auto industry, teacher's unions, government employee unions etc is driving the companies/taxpayers into bankruptcy.

I have seen some places a union works, others they simply run the entity into the ground (or taxes into the sky) with ridiculous demands. Does management/government need to be thrown out as well? Absolutely, they signed the contracts!!

Another perspective. What needs to happen is a middle ground but unfortunately everybody has their hands in the pot. Just saying :)

Any diesel engine that utilizes a pre-combustion chamber will have a "knocking" sound. The direct injection engines will be quieter.
If you posted more info about your tractor maybe someone can help.

Gatoraider; The spline shaft zerk you speak of I grease about every day if we're using tne Gator to pick up rocks or doing anything when the fields are dusty. I've never had a problem with it or any of the other problems that have been mentioned here but the old theroy of "Grease is free compared to parts" kicks in for me whenever a lubed componet of any kind is exposed to excess dust ot water. I know I've said this here before, but I've owned every series Gator they ever built except the tricycle electric models and have never had a bad one yet, I wouldn't trade my XUV for a boatload of anything else. Frank.

I've never dealt with removing evergreen type stumps on a big time basis, but what few I have took out are pretty easy compared to any other tree. I think EW's idea of using a pallet fork would work fine. A skid steer is a great machine, but another engine, drivetrain, etc., to maintain, so maybe a front end loader with a fork attachment for your tractor would be another option too. I have a Deere #48 backhoe attachment for my 4310 Deere. It is a neat little machine, works great, but never in a million years would I save enough compared to hiring it done to pay for it, but I just love doing it myself, and this may be your case too. Frank.

Truss; I'm 100% for the small guy taking on Deere to undersell, or over engeneer them on a roll cage. Just coming from my own experience of owning a furniture manufacturing plant from the mid seventys till I closed it down in Jan. of 05 the first person you need to visit is an insurance agent who is familliar with busniess insurance. When I first opened the place it wasn't a big issue, but as years went along it became one of my biggest expenses. Even working alone the liability thing comes into play if you sell even one roll cage with your name on it, hopefully things will move along to where you need help. Family help is kinda "Iffy" in the insurance world, some don't mind, others will make a big issue of it. Then full time help comes into play, OK, hang onto your shorts now. I really hope you can make it work and I truly encourage you, but just thought I'd kinda forewarn you of what wiil be your biggest expense, the steel and bolts, etc. will be peanuts in comparison. I never once had a claim from anything or anybody I was invo9lved with in the business,"BUT" Frank
