That is good to know about the fill plug. I have a bad seal on the passenger side and have to change it so the fluid level is low. I am also taking the chance to replace a torn cv boot on the axle so two birds with one stone.

I had a Tacoma that I absolutely loved. Apparently the four cylinder engine in that model had a sludge issue but the company took care of the ones with an issue.

Oh by the way couldnt be sure that the oil filler cap was up front on the right side so I took the inspection plate of the valve cover and poored the oil in there. Can you tell me where the cap is for crankcase oil?

I am attempting to install a Bulldog 282 front end loader on my E18D Hinomoto---I do not know a lot about the Hinomoto and need some direction with how to pipe hydraulic fluid to and from the control valve on the loader (I would like to use the hydraulic's installed on the tractor). I would surely appreciate anyone who can provide any info about how to do this---Thanks, Randy

The two were grade 5 (I think) bolts used to attach a post hole auger to the post hole gear drive. At the time they were used the auger struck the underside of a concrete slab and ended up damaging the PTO clutch inside the tractor when a single grade 2 bolt would have sufficed for the job and would have sheared right off protecting the clutch. Its unfortunate the two bolts held as long as they did.

Quite a while ago a fellow came around the neighborhood with a home made looking PTO powered stump grinder on the three point of a 7 or 806 Farmall tractor. It had no curtians, sheilds, or safety looking devices of any kind. I watched him grind a couple stumps in town, the thing threw chips, dirt, rocks, chunks of stump all over the place. He and a couple kids that were with him did a pretty good job of cleaning up after and hauled the stuff away. I don't remember what he charged, but it didn't seem like much at the time. Never saw him before or since. Even after seeing that disaster waiting to happen looking thing operate for some unknown reason I still kinda always wanted one, but the Mrs. long ago put the kebosh to that idea.

Thanks for the replys. Looks like the first thing to do is trace all the gounds and clean 'em up.

It is interesting how machines are re-branded. Seems to absolve the manufacturer from fault in certain instances. "It's not our problem... we don't do the electrical part of the job."

One guy I talked to said he thinks that compact tractors just don't get the same attention to detail as their big brothers in the industry. Specifically, that they don't take the same care in making connections and fuses and such really water resistant like the big guys do. He also said to check the safety switches... I guess they can get a bit of moisture in them and cause a bit more resistance and wammo, there goes your fuse.

I'm gonna talk to my friends at the NH dealer and see if I can bend the techs ear.

I'm sure the other poster said the foam-filled thing tongue-in-cheek (Kenny that means he was joking). There are a few types of foam filling--some so-called "soft fill" but generally they're intended for heavy equipment that sees a high rate of puncturing. They offer little give or flex. Cost is another issue. Here, a 12x16.5 skid steer tire which is about the same size of a really wide 4x4 truck mud tire is about $450 just for the fill--EACH. Then there's the added weight. For my skid steer it would have added about 1,200-1,400 lb. of unnecessary weight, which negates any floatation that you would have had to start with. Also, there's added taxing of the drive and brake systems to propll and stop the added rotating and curb weight. And then there's the life span of the tire istwelf. On skid steers we're lucky to get 250 hours out of a set of new tires. I realize CUTs and Ag's in general can go a decade or more without changing tires, but once you tear one up, it has to be cut from the rim (if you're salvaging the rim) with a reciprocating saw which can day in itself per tire.

A man was killed just last week here in eastern Iowa when a combine cornhead he was working under fell on him. There are safety lockup devices on every combine to prevent this from happening, whether or not he had the safety device in place I don't know. Anything mechanical can fail even lockup devices, it's not likely, but possible. Most likely he got under without locking the cornhead up to adjust or unclog something, I've been guilty of the same thing, you are in a hurry and so what those hydraulic cylinders and hoses have held the cornhead up for twenty years it won't fail now. I like Joel have had plenty of close calls and did dumb things to put my life in danger mainly from being in a hurry.

Reading this has caused me to go humm. Have two tractors and one gear trans and one hydro. The hydro I pulled a few months ago and it did not fire to run (turned out to be problem with fuel cut off (manual one) the knob was bad and not opening for fuel flow. The engine did turn over and have used it a good bit since then and have noticed no problem in any manner. But it was not pulled far.

First off, welcome!!! :)

As for your loader, it sounds like one of two possible problems.

First, and most likely, one of the quick disconnect fittings is not seated properly.

Secondly, the internal seals in the valve are leaking.

Start with checking all the quick disconnects.
