Mikef54, now I'm confused, the rear tire track with my turfs set wide is 54". Did you have smaller tires or a snowblower wider than 47"?

My grandfather learned to fly during World War I, although he was too young to be a combatant. He continued to fly under his own license until just before his death at the age of 93.

One of his favourite sayings when someone asked about whether or not flying was scary was "You have nothing to fear about falling, nobody has ever been hurt not even from falling from a great height. It's the sudden stop at the bottom that gets you every time though."

Basically when you are speaking to prospective candidates to do the work you just need to be clear that you want nothing more than a graded out trail, no new material brought in, and that you don't want the trail for anything more than foot & 4 wheeler traffic.<br>

For what you are doing your heavy clay soil is actually about the best you could get. The fact that it doesn't give or take water easily is a big bonus. As long as there's enough spots to take some fill to bring up the low spots the clay will hold it's shape and not wash out nicely.<br>

As I mentioned, the trick will be to get them in shape and then get some ground cover, preferably grass growing over it. If you can do that, and limit the 4 wheelers from chewing it you shouldn't have any problems for many years to come.<br>

I built some similar type trails ~15 years ago at our hunt camp. They still look as good today as they did when they were first built.<br>
<br>
If you have a heavy box blade (especially with scarifiers) I'd be tempted to have a go at it with that on the tractor first, at the very least it will flatten out the existing trails and make them usable.<br>

Hunelmea,

It seems to me that someone asked this question once before.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a replacement set of lower arms available for the 3pt hitch. The replacement lower arms are bent near the ends, allowing greater clearance for the backhoe subframe.

You might want to explore this a bit more. I can't seem to locate the topic.

You don't say so but I'm assuming by 'hydraulic lift' you mean the 3pth and not the loader or some other hydraulics.

Is it possible that somebody (or a kid) was fiddling with the machine and turned the control knob that adjusts the speed at which the 3pth lowers? If it's turned all the way closed it will stop all flow in & out of the 3pth lift / lower cylinder.

Also, a remote port or FEL valve stuck in the open position will cause the relief valve to open and dump all pressure.

The challenge is getting enough power to the mower, as I found when I did something similar.

My battery-operated garden tractor with front blower doesn't have much traction or power. So I made holders to nestle the blower inside my Yanmar's bucket, and made an inverter to boost the Yanmar output to the 36V that the blower-motor takes. Worked perfectly until I tried it in snow. If I went any faster than the garden tractor, the inverter couldn't take it, so I was no further ahead. Takes a lot of power to spin an auger biting into snow.

Ok folks, I hit every auto and truck supply in town on my way home from work as well as two "other brand" compact tractor dealers in the area. Not one of them was able to cross reference the number either on the pump or the Cub Cadet number. Good thing gas prices are down...$1.75 here in case you wondered. I bought a Mr Gasket #12D made for diesel fuel. It's rated at 35 gpm and 4-7 psi. Should be plenty. Got it at Advanced Auto for $54.00. comes with a 90 day warranty, thread in 100 micron filter, fittings, and hardware. This pump is the same size and very close to the same mounting. Earlier in the year I kept busting the fuel line to the injection pump so I ran a steel line with 3 inches of high pressure fuel injection hose at each end to hook it up. I hope to get the Mr Gasket pump in this weekend. I'll let ya'll know how it works out. Denny

If you are careful you will not need gaskets. One nut, as you know, holds the individual valve covers to its respective head. That nut has a copper washer under it that is reusable. The gasket that seals the cover to the head should be reusable, use a little silicone gasket maker to be sure.

As to your problem. Are you sure this is where you should look? Can you explain just what the engine is doing or not doing? Does it only turn half way with the starter, or, can you not turn it over by hand fully? Use the nut on the front of the engine in the centre of the crankshaft pully and a wrench. Let us know.

Rrocky,

I found a generic picture of a the inner workings of a manual transmission. This one happens to be used in Chevy trucks, but most manual transmissions are generally built using the same principles.

Please note that parts 87-121 are all contained in the upper cover assembly. The entire top right assembly comes out in one piece. The forks can then be removed from the cover assembly on the workbench, and then be re-attached to the transmission. The forks simply slip over the shift collars on the main shaft during re-assembly.

I doubt that your transmission is much different than this one, other than the fact that you don't have the externally mounted 5th gear assembly.

If you can access the available one, you could check the mating surfaces (the ones you can't shim or squeeze in) against the factory engine.
