My fuel pump is leaking from the seam between two halves. I had trouble blowing out the fuel line to the injection pump. I put in a high pressure hose and now I blew the lift pump. Does anyone know how to cross reference to a Mitsubishi or Mahindra part number. Cadet dealer wants $150.00 for pump. I'm thinking of putting in a generic 12v pump from an auto parts store. It don't think it needs much flow or pressure. JCwhitney has a pump for $30.00. Any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks folks.

That will work naturally but I always perfer to keep things as original as possible. It might by you some time to get the pump at a price you feel is right. By the books the price is what they have it listed at! It is electric and I'd just try and make it look as original as possible. ....

I doubt you'll ever cross reference that pump, I tried to buy filters for my CC from some one other than the dealer and could never find a substitute number. Seems CC parts are a highly guarded secret ....

It is the old fashion way, take the pump to the dealer and ask them to match it. Depending on the parts person they will be able to, maybe. If a green horn, nope.

Then you may try an auto parts store. ....

Thanks for the input guys. I brought the pump with to the dealer when I went. No dice. Even if he could cross the number, I doubt that he would. He'd be out $. He ain't no green horn either. He was P.O. when I told him not to order the part for that money. That dealer is only out to sell "new" compacts and ATVs. Bigger mark-up. Whenever I stop in for parts or a question, it's like I walked in on a family dinner and he wants me out asap. When I asked about a used tractor, they wouldn't even look for me. Too bad, he could have found the one I bought before I did, marked it up and I still woulda bought it. The other dealer in my area is even worse. He won't even look up the part for me. He just gives me the "I'll call you with the info" but never does. Then when I stop back in, he doesn't have it anyway. Always has time to show me the new units though. Now you guys know why I don't want OEM parts. Too much hassel. Does anyone know the series number for the CaseIH or New Holland or Mitsubishi tractors that are sisters with the 7235? Maybe I'll get better service from the Mits dealer ect. I think I'm gonna put a clamp-on K&N air filter too. About 1/3 the price of Cub Cadet. I'm still looking for a compact tractor salvage yard too. Any leads? Thanks again. I should lurk here more often. Denny ....

DZLDENNY, wow!
So do you have bad breath or bad attitude or I suspcet need to find another dealership. :) There are some very good ones out there. Not shocked a dealership does not look for used tractors as an individual would. There is probably about 10 dealerships within 50 miles or me or more and there is only one that normally has used tractors on it. They seem to really go looking for them. The others seem to let them come to them.

Ok, let me change my suggestion to where I really meant to make it, take it to a "parts store". I have had some good success with that. Guess since the dealership I buy most parts and such from also being a parts store did not make it clear. Sorry. ....

There were different groups of the Cub/Mitsubishi series. Models 7205,7235,7265,7275 and 7305 and possibly more. (7000 was the series) while (23) in your case is 23 HP and the (0005) meant hydro while (0000) were gear. I'm sure Art White would sell you the component you need. In addition to model you should also give him the serial number to be sure.

In my opinion, it is worth spending the $150.00 and getting the proper part. My time is too valuable to be spending looking for shortcuts. But if you can easily get the same part for less, go for it!

I have the 7275 which is a 1994 or 1995 model. Mine has about 820 hrs. on it which is low hours for its age, but has been an excellent machine with only minor problems. ....

Ok folks, I hit every auto and truck supply in town on my way home from work as well as two "other brand" compact tractor dealers in the area. Not one of them was able to cross reference the number either on the pump or the Cub Cadet number. Good thing gas prices are down...$1.75 here in case you wondered. I bought a Mr Gasket #12D made for diesel fuel. It's rated at 35 gpm and 4-7 psi. Should be plenty. Got it at Advanced Auto for $54.00. comes with a 90 day warranty, thread in 100 micron filter, fittings, and hardware. This pump is the same size and very close to the same mounting. Earlier in the year I kept busting the fuel line to the injection pump so I ran a steel line with 3 inches of high pressure fuel injection hose at each end to hook it up. I hope to get the Mr Gasket pump in this weekend. I'll let ya'll know how it works out. Denny ....

I installed the Mr. Gasket pump on Sat morn. I used the tractor all weekend with no issues. The pump does make a little more noise than the original, but once the tractor is running you can't hear it anyway. I will use it plenty in the next 90 days for snow removal, so I'll find out if there are any problems before the warranty expires. I'll post any more info on the subject here. Thanks for the input. Denny ....

Ken, years ago there used to be some electric pumps you could buy for less then a mechanical! Some have gone up and some haven't beat inflation. Parts pricing depends on demand the bulk of the time. The rarer the problem the higher the prices. ....

I think it has to do with the combination of sales volume and the age of the tooling and such.

We find the same thing with starters & alternators, some are half of less of the price of other similar looking parts.

In some cases, especially with alternators, we've just sourced out a comparable automotive one that is cheaper, sometimes a LOT cheaper. One for instance was nearly $300 and even then it was only a 40 amp. output, we found one for a Nissan car that was identical in size and shape, bolted right in, and was $45 and it had a 60 amp output to boot.

Best of luck. ....

Denny, did not pick up on something you said about this pump at the time but it finally hit me, are you sure on the GPM? 35? What size line handles that? If it really is 35 gpm would it work on a fuel transfer tank? Man for that price it would be a deal. Now don't tell me it is only 3 1/2 gpm, or 35 gph. You have my hopes up. ....

I was quoting one of the web sites I found the pump on for the 35 gpm. What site, I don't remember. It has 5/16 fittings but the instructions say you can also use 3/8. It says on the package that it works well as a transfer pump. It also says "Not for use on fuel injected vehicles". I have never seen a diesel without injection. After you pointed it out, 35 gpm is huge for a pump this size. I can tell you I ran the pump a little to flush it out before I hooked the line up to the injection pump and I had 3-4 inches in a gallon pail in 2-3 seconds. Try a Google on Mr. Gasket #12D and see what else you can find out about it. I just thought my tractor only has 550 hrs on it and the original pump went out. I can replace this one a few times for what the dealer wanted. Denny ....

Denny, based upon what I found on internet search all you said agrees with the three web sites. One or two even titled it "transfer pump".

My guess and that is no diesel mechanic they mean it will not supply the pressure needed to send the fuel to the injectors.

FYI, all prices on line were higher than what you paid. Form $57 to $77 per unit. An all think on line is cheaper.

For $55 if it will hold up to pump at 35 gpm that to me seems a real deal. I paid a good bit more than thant for a manual transfer pump for my diesel. Why don't you consider posting a thread after some use on that pump for others to know about it?

Well before any of your run off and buy this for fuel transfer from a bulk tank to your tractor read the mfg web site. The best I understand it it needs to be plumbed to the bottom of the tank and will not lift the fuel as a true fuel pump will. It wants to be within 12 inches of the tank and mounted at the lowest fuel level. Below is part of the info on the web site. But for the price seems it would be a good option for many of us small fuel pumpers. kt

"Remember an electric fuel pump is
very efficient pushing fuel, it’s very inefficient at pulling fuel, always locate the
pump nearest to the fuel supply as possible." ....

Kenny, don't forget though, gravity is our friend. LOL

If you run a good-sized pick up tube from near the bottom of the tank, up and over the top and back down to the ground and into the pump, the pump won't really know how far the fuel is traveling before getting to the pump, and gravity will cause the fuel to siphon down to the pump.

In effect the pump will not really be lifting any fuel at all.

Best of luck. ....

Ok folks. It's been about a year since I used that cheap off the shelf parts store fuel pump for my tractor, and it is still working perfect! If anybody needs a lift pump, I would recomend the Mr Gasket. I moved snow all last winter (and a lot of it), and mowed all summer, and everything else in between without trouble. Saved a wad of cash ta boot too! Denny ....

Thanks for the update. Great to know. Sure do wish I had come across this options before the manual transfer pump that cost about 3 times that. But if that pump will pump even 25 gpm with a 3/8" hose it should be a great option. ....

For your future reference I suggest that you contact the folks at R. F. Houtz & Sons for your Cub parts. I have used them to purchase my service parts for my Cub and they have been extremely helpful and shipped my orders right away. I found the parts person I spoke to very helpful too. I don't know if their prices are lower than others, but I do think you will like their service. They are located in Illinois so you should be able to get parts that are in stock from them within a day or two via UPS.

Their phone number is 630-365-6551.
