BA, I think you're confusing road work with trail work. Yes you can kill a fly with a nuke, but it's overkill.

All you need is a fairly flat level area to walk.

Without knowing one critical piece of information, and that is whether the trails will be going up/down, or side-slope (along the side of the hill) I can't offer much information as to slope.

The general rule of thumb though is unless there is a good reason not to, you always slope a side-slope road such that it is flat and sloping INTO the side of the hill, you always want the ditch between the road and the up-slope side. Then every so often (depending on conditions) you make either a drain, a trench full of stone that goes under the road, or a culvert. This goes a LONG way to preventing erosion.

However, in your case, you probably won't have the single biggest cause of erosion, wheel tracks!! When the water runs in wheel tracks it causes a lot of erosion.

If you can just make a fairly flat, slightly sloped trail and then get a decent crop of grass growing on it you should be just fine without too much erosion.

My suggestion would be to, as Brian advised, hire a decent, skilled operator with a bit of experience at this sort of thing and set him loose. Just roughly mark where you want the trail and give him 'the reigns' and let him have some freedom to go around any bad spots he finds and so on, and you will be just fine. Just be sure to tell the operator that you want a GRASSED trail, he needs to top it with with topsoil, not scrape it all away for a road or driveway.

As for the time of year to do it, fall is good if you haven't already missed that opportunity up there. If there are any trees in the way of where you want to go, I'd say to cut them late in the winter, and start work as soon as the ground is dry enough. That will get you to the point you can seed in the spring.

I doubt you'll ever cross reference that pump, I tried to buy filters for my CC from some one other than the dealer and could never find a substitute number. Seems CC parts are a highly guarded secret

Update:
Culprit found. While moving the upper oil control ring to the lower groove discovered that one of the three rings used in the oil control groove was gone. The oil control ring is really 3 rings in one groove, 2 wipers and one spring ring behind the 2 wipers it pushes the wiper rings into contact with the cylinder wall. This was the rear cylinder and the one smoking most.

The two cylinders cleaned up good and the deglazing worked well. Pick up rings and gaskets wed and install by the weekend.

Earth: Surprised about the scowl. Maybe just jealous of your truck. Or wondering if you were going to be working with it. Flashing yellow marker roof lights are permitted in Canada but red is restricted to authorized emergency vehicles and blue to snowplows.

Hard: You heard right but it's complex. Our night-vision retinal photoreceptors (rod-shaped under a microscope) are least sensitive to the red end of the color spectrum, most sensitive to the blue end. (They don't perceive any specific colors as such and would perceive blue as grey.) But if your headlights are on the road, there'd be too much light for dark adaption, meaning you aren't using your rods but your day-vision cells or cones, which are most sensitive to yellow-green. But those relative sensitivities assume equal intensity, and there isn't. When dark adapted you'd see blue best. But puting a blue cover over a white light reduces the intensity so much that you'd see the uncovered white better. (Based on an early and partial understanding of the eye, airport night runway markers are blue. But now they're considered another "display stereotype" because they'd be better seen if left white.)

Yes, when fully dark adapted, a maroon object would be invisible. Although blue is easiest seen at night, if you had a red and a blue truck, which would you see better? Well, blue has low intensity, and red can be quite bright or intense (and more reflective), so it would be a washout.

These misunderstandings are common. Some vehicles have instrument displays that are red, for better night vision. If you were that dark-adapted you couldn't read them, as rods don't perceive form but only motion. (The best is yellow-green, set at minimum reading intensity.)

Jeff generally keys from the same mfg. within a series of machines will fit one another--not like car keys. And even with car keys there aren't an infinite number of key combinations. On eBay there are guy selling huge key rings loaded with keys---about 30 keys--that will fit just about anything construction or farm.

The heat and vibration under the hood are hard on wires, so start with continuity testing from the battery back. <br>

Yanmar alternators often function for the life of the tractor, but the original voltage regulators seem to last about as long as the fan belt (which you should also check). It is possible that incorrect jump-starting damages them. They cost a bit but I've not heard of one of the new solid-state ones failing.<br>

While troubleshooting, you can use the tractor. After it's started, turn the key to off. No lights or horn, but you won't be draining the battery. After 20 or so starts, charge it. <br>

Some owners hardwire a quick-connect terminal on the outside of the tractor going to the battery, and a matching terminal on their charger. When it's cold I connect a trickle charger between uses. (Those little alternators are designed for use in Japan, where the temps are milder and they tend to run their tractors for longer periods.)

However I went through hell and High water to get there. I started off this morning with a plan that it must be somewhere in the electrical system. Here is what I did...
Replaced battery cables....nothing
Cleaned all connections.....nothing
Checked voltage to starter...nothing
Checked voltage to ignition switch...nothing
Put it on a 200 amp charger......nothing

At this point I was getting fairly agitated. In desperation or Frustration ( I don't know witch) I slammed the key to the start position. I'm not condoning taking your frustration out on your machines, because 99% of the time it will get you into trouble. I could've snapped the key off and then I would really have been mad. This time I was in the 1%. All the sudden the starter kicked into another gear and turned the engine over fast enough to fire. It died right after that of course. So I slammed the key into the start position and again the starter turned fast enough to start the engine. This time I was able to keep it running.
So it appears after all that work looking at the fuel, air, and electrical system its just a bad ignition switch.

I checked out the rest of the tractor and everything seems to be in working order. I have a little smoke, but the more I ran it the better it got.

My wife the eternal doubter said I was grinning from ear to ear as I was doing donuts in the front yard.

Now for my next question, anybody selling a tiller, brush hog and mower deck for this thing. :)

Playing with old cars that had been sitting I used to pay about 75 to 100 to have them steam the tanks and take the scale off and coat the tanks. Prices keep going up and I don't do it to often but I have a complete kit at this time sitting on a shelf that seals and etches the tanks.
To take a bunch of ball bearings or nuts and put them in the tank and seal it up and shake it around will get the heavy stuff off. Then to steam it and then start the sealing process. I've used this stuff for over 30 years and it does work.

You can buy the kit through "Eastwoods" an auto restoration products company. At one time I could get it from JC Whitney.

You read it right. But I have been wrong before. (As my wife often reminds me.)

I suppose you could pull the plug, connect + to terminal and the body to ground and see if it heats. Or, since plugs don't have a recommended replacement spec and they can fail spontaneously, if it's old you might replace it just in case.

Maybe cold-weather oil would help. Some synthetics have a low number of "5" (if it's not diesel rated, change it more often).

Not sure from your post if it's a yannie or a JD, but on mine the hand throttle holds where set by a "friction disk" or "friction washer." It eventually glazes and loses its hold. Replacement not costly but you may have to remove panels to get at it. Or you could try removing the glaze.<br>

There's also a "return spring" that weakens in time, that you might also want to replace though it's not causing the present problem. Also oil the moving bits but not the disk.
